Google+ Charleston Elopement by Rachel Red Photography - Southern Weddings

A few years ago, we dreamed up the closest thing we’ve done to an elopement shoot, and Charleston was a shoe-in for the location. Even though it’s right in the heart of the South, it sure does feel like a magical destination, don’t you think? Britnee fell in love with the beauty of Magnolia Plantation when she was a child, and when she and Matthew chose Charleston for their top-secret elopement, she knew that it would be the perfect place to become husband and wife. With the details in the hands of Pure Luxe Bride, and Rachel Red Photography on site to capture every sweet moment, Britnee and Matthew completely focused on one another throughout the day, from their relaxing morning getting ready together, to their downtown Charleston first look, to their private ceremony, to the cake and bubbly they shared to celebrate!

We decided to get ready together. He was there while I was getting my hair and makeup done and I’m so glad he was. It was a special, exciting time to share together, especially since we were secretly eloping. We did, however, separate when I put on my wedding dress before our much-anticipated first look in downtown Charleston.

I found my wedding dress in a small boutique in Cookeville, Tennessee. After trying on several dresses that I did not like, I took it upon myself to look through the samples they had on sale, hoping there might be something there. I ended up trying on a dress that didn’t look very attractive on the hanger, but I loved the simplicity of it. I’m so happy I tried it on because as soon as I did, I knew it was the one!

What made you choose your ceremony and reception venues? Did they have any special significance to you? I had remembered how beautiful Magnolia Plantation and Gardens was from a childhood vacation and I knew that it would be a dream come true to get married there.

What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? My advice is to make sure you focus on each other throughout the planning process and the day of the ceremony. If you and your significant other decide to run off and elope, I still highly recommend getting a planner! It was so nice to work with a team who was familiar with the area and other vendors. I can’t thank Pure Luxe Bride enough for planning such a magical day! Because of their hard work, Matt and I were able to focus on the love we have for one another and the true meaning of the day.

Describe your wedding cake or dessert. Our wedding cake was lovely. It was a simple white cake with gold brushing, and it was delicious!

I was so happy to have Rachel Red Photography capture our elopement. Rachel was with us almost every moment and she truly made it unforgettable. She was so sweet, enthusiastic, and made us feel like royalty. When Matt and I got our elopement pictures back, I had happy tears. Her work was absolutely stunning. She was able to capture the beauty surrounding us as well as all of the special moments Matt and I still reminisce about.

How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story. Matt and I met during our freshmen year of college and it truly was love at first sight!
Tell us all about the proposal! It was the day before Matt’s college graduation when we attended his Order of the Engineer ceremony. I remember wanting to wear jeans, but he insisted that I wear a dress. I’m glad he did! After the ceremony, his family headed back home and Matt asked if I wanted to go on one last walk around campus. Matt was walking a little ahead of me when we came upon a bench. I noticed a beautiful box made from two old mailbox facings that were connected by glass. As I got closer, I saw that it had a ring box inside of it. The first thing that came to my mind was “Wow, that’s such a good idea.” I honestly thought it was for someone else! As I was about to share my thoughts with Matt, he turned around and started walking towards me. That’s when I realized it was for me. The box was made of my old college mailbox on one side of the box, and his on the other! He then bent down on one knee. I was in such shock that it took me a while to respond, but of course, I said yes!
