Southern Weddings

Wedding colors don’t come more Southern – or cute! – than navy blue and lime green, and we’re glad Eleise Theuer was there to capture Allie + Jonathan’s classic but playful North Carolina wedding.  The fellow University of Virginia alums and college sweethearts tied the knot in a traditional ceremony at the Duck United Methodist Church.  The bride’s found her traditional A-line gown at the Virginia-based All the Rage and chose navy JCrew dresses for her eight attendants.  Personally, I think it’s the green-inspired florals — aptly described as modern with a whimsical edge + a dash of preppy + a pinch of Etsy — from Renee Landry Style that really completed this Southern soiree!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met just before our fourth year of college at the University of Virginia. I had just moved into a new apartment complex and one of my best friends was friends with the guys that were living in the apartment above mine. She took me upstairs to introduce me to Jon and we hit it off. We officially started dating a couple weeks later.
Describe the proposal. In the summer of 2008 we planned a trip with Jon’s parents to my family’s cottage in Duck on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I have been going to the Outer Banks with my family since I was born, and it is a very special place for me. I’ve always wanted to get married in Duck and Jon decided this would be the perfect place to propose. He also made arrangements for my parents to join us for the celebration.  After spending a great day at the beach, we returned to our cottage to hang out and get ready for cocktail hour. Jon asked me to take a walk with him back down to the beach while everyone else was getting cleaned up. As we walked down the boardwalk and onto the beach, I noticed some writing in the sand. As I read “Will You Marry Me?” he dropped down to one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. And I said, “Yes!” After Jon proposed, we walked back up to our cottage where our parents were waiting with roses and champagne. We capped off the evening with a great meal at our favorite restaurant, The Rundown Cafe. It was such a blessing to have our families with us in one of our favorite places. It was a very special moment.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Perfect, relaxing and joyful.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? Classic, but playful.
What was your favorite design element of your big day? There were several fun elements that went into our wedding décor. We had pinwheels (all 120 of them were made by my family on the deck of our cottage) along with grass trays for centerpieces. There was also a wish tree where guests could hang their wishes for Jon and me.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: My mom, sister and I went on an eight-hour wedding dress hunt while I was home for Christmas last winter. We knew that would be one of our only opportunities to look for dresses together, so we were on a mission. We visited about six different stores and I probably tried on over 50 dresses! Finally, I found the perfect dress at the very last store.
