Emily summed up her wedding florals from Blooming Ideas in just one word – “breathtaking” – but we’ll add a few more: soft, organic, pretty but not girly… I guess you could say we like these blooms, too!  Of course, my sugar addiction takes me right to the his and her wedding cakes designed by the staff at the Woodlands Resort.  They’re different (chocolate vs. vanilla, bow vs. flower detailing, etc.) enough to be fun and personal, but still similar enough to go perfectly together – just like the bride + groom.  Too cute!  For more images from photographer Akil Bennett, take a peek at his original blog post of Emily + Will’s wedding celebration.

Describe your wedding flowers: Our flowers were just breathtaking! I loved them! I wanted our flowers to look like a field of spring wildflowers, but also to have an organic feel. I think we achieved that perfectly with a mixture of peonies, ranunculus, tulips, daisies, sweet peas and hydrangeas – all wrapped in grapevine!
Describe your wedding cake:
Our wedding cake was so delicious! The exterior of the cake was designed with lacey fondant to mimic the intricate detailing of my dress, and topped with pink peonies.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day?
Our most memorable moment was definitely seeing each other when I walked down the aisle. I will never forget the look on Will’s face when he saw me for the first time.  Another “memorable” moment was our last dance. We started playing a slow song … that faded into Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” That’s right, we rick-rolled our guests!
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future?
We are simply looking forward to starting this new chapter of our lives, cherishing the moments when we are together and spending lots of time outside!

Congratulations, Emily + Will!  Thank you for sharing your day with us!

The cake. The flowers. The birdies. The pom poms. The bride.Everything is absolutely stellar. But, the inverted tea cup cake stand with flowers? Classic. Everything is completely inspiring. Thanks, Emily for sharing it all!

This is such an Emily Ayer wedding.  How do I know this?  The bridesmaids are wearing J. Crew dresses and cardigans – in fresh melon, no less!  (EA is our resident J. Crew diva, for those of you who don’t know.)  Akil Bennett photographed Emily + Will’s wedding at the Woodlands Resort in Texas.  The bride wore an embellished La Sposa gown and an elbow-length veil borrowed from big sis, but my favorite accessory – surprise, surprise – is Emily’s purple Kate Spades.  (Our Em’s vote goes to the grapevine-wrapped bouquets, courtesy of The Blooming Idea.)  Come back soon for shots from the reception!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  Will and I met at college as environmental studies majors. Will says he first remembers me supervising his geology lab exam, watching him with a stern, threatening eye, but I don’t remember that – or being so intimidating! Our major only had a few students in it, so I remember meeting Will in the first (and every subsequent!) class we had together, and we soon became great friends. After three years of being my best friend, he told me how he truly felt, and we have been together ever since. After we graduated, I moved to NYC for grad school, while he stayed back in Houston.  I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder, because when I flew home for Spring Break, he asked me to marry him!

Describe the proposal.  Before I flew home for Spring Break, Will said he was going to give me a huge bouquet of flowers (I LOVE flowers!) so I started to suspect something was up. But strangely, when he picked me up… no flowers. And then the next day … still no flowers.  I was starting to get pretty confused.  After dinner the following day, I started to confront him about the lost flowers, when he turned to me, got on one knee, and said, “I have something better than flowers.  Will you marry me?”
Three adjectives that describe the day are:
Beautiful, floral and fun!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: We loved so many things: the paper pomanders we made together, the bird theme we used throughout the day because of Will’s love of birds, and, of course, our gorgeous flowers! I was also particularly fond of our musical selections, because we chose only songs that were meaningful to us. I walked down the aisle to our song, “Your Hand in Mine” by Explosions in the Sky.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I had an idea in my head of what I wanted, but nothing I tried on was perfect. After a terrible appointment at another salon (I won’t name names!), I called one of my bridesmaids and she recommended I look at Maison de Mode. She was so right! I tried on the dress and new instantly it was “the one”. I still had other appointments that day, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about that dress. I came back into the store after all my appointments just to try it on again, and then purchased it later that week!

Happy May, y’all!  I don’t know what things have been like in your neck of the woods, but down here in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, it’s like we magically jumped from a dark and chilly winter to a hot, hot summer.  Not that I’m complaining or anything…

Another recent discovery: our readers love candy (almost) as much as I do, hence the eager voting on our recent Candy-Coated Bling Contest.  We narrowed down our submissions to our fave five, and y’all voted to pick our winner.

And what a close vote it was!  Julie Harmsen’s cotton candy goodness, Abby’s Demonic Bunnies and Dana Goodson’s piece of chocolate heaven all were within one (yes, one) vote of each other!  So who came out on top?

#1!  Congratulaitions, Julie!  We love us some cotton candy – and diamonds.  Definitely diamonds.

I’ll be sending you a bag full of my favorite sugary treats.  Email me with your address!  But hurry… I’m not sure how long I can hold onto this candy without dipping into it myself…

Thanks again to our entrants and to all our readers who voted.  Have a great week!

Oh yeah, Florida is HOT already! I think it was 92 today? Something ridiculous.

Its still wishy washy here…60’s one day, 80’s the next. Congrats Julie! I like to think that one winning vote was from me!
