We don’t have too many details from this next wedding, but as soon as I saw it on Shelly’s blog, I just couldn’t resist sharing it with y’all.  It’s actually from a few years back, but don’t the details look incredibly fresh and relevant?  I have the feeling that I’d feel the same way about this wedding twenty, thirty, or fifty years from now.  Good, simple design that reflects the couple and their passions doesn’t really go out of style, does it?

What do you think — are you concerned about your wedding looking dated?  Have you gone out of your way to choose “timeless” elements, or are you on the side of “everything will look dated eventually and I might as well embrace what I love right now, even if it’s trendy”?  Thanks again to Shelly Kroeger Photography for letting us share their work!

Would you be surprised if I told you Stephanie + Wil’s Alabama wedding – photographed by Jesse + Whitney Chamberlain at Our Labor of Love – was my pick for our week of magazine sneak peeks?  If you’ve seen their dessert bar, then probably not!  (If you haven’t seen the coma-inudcing array of goodies, what are you waiting for?!)

Fittingly, it was Stephanie + Wil’s childhood dream of opening a bakery that first sparked a night of conversation and bakery planning, and ultimately lead them to this dessert-themed Southern wedding.  Pretty sweet, eh?  The bride sure thinks so!  “Our meet truly was the beginning of something very sweet,” she happily muses.

While the emphasis of Stephanie + Wil’s wedding at the Sonnet House in Leeds, Alabama naturally was on the desserts (most of which were homemade labors of love from the bride + groom themselves), one of my favorite details was the funky-fun pink dress Stephanie wore for her walk down the aisle. “I never walked into a dress shop, never tried on any big, white gowns or long, flowy veils,” she explains.  Instead, after seeing a beautiful Vera Wang bridesmaid dress in a magazine, Stephanie immediately found a seamstress who could copy the design.  The only catch?  Like the other design elements for her September nuptials, the dress had to be princess pink!

Yellow is hot right now, and Toni + Matt  (with help from planner extraordinaire Ashley Baber) used the color just right at their King Plow reception.  The bright pops of sunny yellow in the florals (Bold American) and candy bar again crisp B&W make me really happy.  Celso’s Cakes, Inc. succeeded in making the couple’s square three-tiered confection modish yet still elegant –often easier said than done!  Visit Altmix Photography’s blog post for more photos.

Describe your wedding flowers: Two words: Steve Bales. His vision and creativity is truly a gift.  We had so much fun with the flowers! I knew I wanted yellow for the central color, and black and white for accent colors.  We chose calla lilies, spider mums, tulips, roses, forsythia, carnations and more. They were amazing, and I was so happy with the final product!
Describe your wedding cake:
Our wedding cake was a three-tiered red velvet cake with buttercream icing and strawberries. It was yummy!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle. My father and I are very close and it was hard for me to let go of him until I saw Matt at the end of the aisle. A sort of peace came over me when I saw him waiting for me, and I’ll never forget it. I was ready. It was a precious moment for me.
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future?  Organizing and decorating our house, and hopefully being blessed with lots of babies!

Congratulations to the happy newlyweds!
