More green, more silhouettes and more stunning images from Stacy Reeves Photography.  The black + white accents at the Stoneleigh Hotel and Spa provided the perfect backdrop for Deziree + Jon’s New Year’s Eve wedding celebration.  Granted, they did feature my favorite candy of all time – Champagne Bubbles, thank you very much – so maybe I’m a bit biased, but did you see the dessert bar?  Crazy awesome.  Fun fact: the newlyweds’ glittering wedding “cake” was, in fact, an ice sculpture boasting silhouettes of the happy couple.  Talk about a cool way to ring in 2010!  (I crack myself up.)

Describe your wedding flowers: White!  I did not want the flowers to distract from any of the lovely details, and since it was winter, I wanted all of the flowers to be light and fluffy, like snow.  My favorite pieces had to be the very simple, but elegant silver trumpet vases with baby’s breath.
Describe your wedding cake:  The cake was incredible… it was an ice cake carved in the shape of a cake with a zebra pattern carved into the bottom layers and our sillhouetes carved into the top.  I didn’t see the cake until the doors were opened and the cake was unveiled to all our guests.  I could not have imagined anything more perfect.  It was exactly what I wanted: non-traditional, breathtaking and oh-so unique.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?  I am not a good decision maker, and I’m sure my poor wedding designer wanted to kill me about a million times.  I wanted every detail to be perfect, and wanted to make sure was selecting the right item for me.
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future? Ten days after we got home from our honeymoon, I started nursing school.  The next two years are going to be very busy!  I am looking forward to graduating from nursing school and having a quiet, calm and relaxing little life with my husband.

Congratulations, Deziree + Jon!  Good luck with the big changes in your life!

What an amazing idea for a cake! And I’m sure with the fabulous desserts guests didn’t miss not having the "real" cake. The Fritos’ packed appetizers (?) are such a fun touch.

I don’t usually comment on a couple’s invitation suite (paper goods are our Art Director’s happy domain), but I am head over heels in love with Deziree + Jon’s Vera Wang invites + custom Orange Spot, Pink Nose pieces.  The simple silhouettes, the bold green, black + white color palate, the lining –ah, the lining on the inner envelope! – are the perfect blend of traditional sophistication and Southern whimsy.  I’d like to imagine the rest of the couple’s Texas wedding celebration – photographed by the talented Stacy Reeves and planned by Tara Wilson Events – were designed around these gems, starting with the crisp bouquets and bouts from Absolutely Blooming.  Emily loves the bride’s veil + Jim Hjelm gown, and I’m a fan of the pewter-colored bridesmaids’ frocks, so overall a double fashion victory.  More soon!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story. We were introduced at a cocktail hour by a mutual friend, but I don’t think she had any idea we would ever end up together. Jon says he noticed me that night, but I had just been laid off from my job and was far from interested in meeting anyone at that time.  Our friend invited us to another happy hour the following week and we talked for a while, but I was oblivious to the fact that Jon was interested in me.  One week later, that same friend had a party and Jon and I both were there.  At the end of the evening, Jon asked for my phone number and I told him that I would give it to him, but only if he was going to call.  He did call and asked me out on an official date for the following week.  We went out on that date, and then a date the next evening, and, well, the rest is history.
Describe the proposal. Jon had been pondering how he was going to propose, and there were some key dates he wanted to either avoid or use as a distraction: my birthday & Christmas.  It just so happened that the weekend we had planned to visit Sonoma was the weekend before my birthday, so he figured I would be thrown off.  Jon had the ring designed by a family jeweler (with a little input) and decided that a private, secluded spot in a vineyard would be a romantic place to propose.  The problem: finding the perfect spot in Sonoma from Dallas.  Jon found the Jack London State Park and picked up some wine and cheese along the way.  We happened upon the perfect spot and, after some food and wine, he decided to make his move.  He got up and walked toward a row of vines, and then acted surprised, as if I had seen a bunny or something – I like bunnies – and got me to stand up and walk towards him.  At that point, he met her halfway, read something he had written over the past few weeks, and got down on one knee.  There were tears and shaky voices and an answer: yes.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Surreal, calm and unbelievable.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: I’m not sure if I can pick just one favorite detail, but if I had to decide on just one, it would be our save-the-date cards and invitations.  Those items were very much a reflection of our personality and style.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:  I had been looking for a dress for quite a while, but I had not found one that made me feel like I thought I should feel when I found “the one.”  I had been to far too many places and had tried on way too many dresses, and it was becoming more of a chore than anything else.  On a recommendation, I made an appointment at Star Dust Celebrations, but did not have high hopes for finding a dress there, either.  After trying on about 10 dresses, I had narrowed it down to two.  My mom and I decided to take a break for lunch and think about, and I went back and tried on both gowns again, and realized one was much more “me” than the other.

I don’t have a favorite memory with my fiance per se, so I’ll write about my favorite thing to remember! (They seem like two different things to me . . . ) In any case, my fiance and I were both very involved in music in high school. At the end of our junior year, the entire band went to Hawai’i for a week to march in a parade, play at Pearl Harbor, etc. We were able to do a lot of touristy things that you absolutely must do if you’re going to visit Honolulu – chill on Waikiki, go snorkeling, hike to the top of Diamond’s Head, but we also had a lot of free time to ourselves. One evening, my fiance and I went to the beach after dinner and just sat and talked for hours, watching the moon move above the ocean – it was so beautiful. We got up extra early and went back to watch the sunrise from the same spot the next morning. It’s not necessarily my favorite memory with my fiance (I love too many of our memories together to pick a favorite), but that’s one of the things I think about when I’m having a particularly long or difficult day.

Favorite memory was one of our first dates in which he instructed me, "wear comfortable clothes and bring a hat". He picked me up around 2 in the afternoon and we started driving up into the mountains in NC. We stopped along the way at an apple orchard that overlooked the Appalachian Mountains to pick apples and grab a gallon of apple cider which we would sip throughout our day. We reached Pisgah National Forest where he surprised me and taught me how to fly fish. We spent the afternoon fishing the streams but he did not cast one, but instead watched and guided me the whole day. (I did manage to catch a few fish… and a few branches) Afterwards we went to the closest mountain town and filled up on barbecue and beer. We are now getting married in a nearby town that has a trout pond and apple orchard on the property and having barbecue for the rehearsal dinner, which ties in nicely with this shared favorite memory of ours.

My favorite memory is from about a month after we met. We had some time after church, so we drove to this little beach I know that has huge rocks to sit onthat go out into the water. We sat and talked for three hours about everything. We began to play "what if" and talked about owning one of the huge mansions across the beach some day. By the end of the afternoon, it felt like we had known each other for ages. This was the first time I started thinking he could be the man I’d spend the rest of my life with.

My favorite memory actually all started back in 2003 when I met Reed. We were in the same college English class in Pensacola and I pretty much fell for him the moment I saw him. I thought he was so good looking and there was just something about him. He ended up making small talk with me and we went out a few times. I really liked him but at the time I just wasn’t looking for anything super serious. Mainly because I had just gotten out of a lengthy relationship. I broke it off with him by just not answering his phone calls. I know how rude of me and that is SO not me. I don’t know what was wrong with me. He eventually got the hint and just stopped calling me. I got back with my ex and then we broke up again sometime later. It just ate away at me what I did to Reed, so being silly and young I wrote him a letter on some cute little stationary telling him that he didn’t deserve what I did to him and he is a great guy. I also told him if he didn’t have a girlfriend that I would love to get a drink with him or catch up. (I wrote a letter before facebook ha) Anyways…he called me and told me how sweet he thought it was, but he did have a girlfriend now and blah blah. Anyways jump to 2008 we met up again bc I have always had a crush on him and found him on fb and we met up and had a drink and have talked everyday since. The cute thing about this story is about a month after we had been dating I was sitting on his couch and he told me to hold on a second he wanted to get something. He brought me the letter I had written him way back when. I about died!! I was mortified!! It was sooo funny. I think that is priceless and I wonder why he saved it after so many years…I guess it was meant to be because we are getting married in November :)

My favorite memory was our 2nd trip to Sedona in which the Mister kept saying "Wow it’s so beautiful here, look at the amazing red rock"… something I told him the first time. His response to my chastising him was "Well some other beautiful thing was captivating me on the first trip". Awww

My favorite memory is hands down our first date. I remember when my guy asked me on a date, I was so worried that he wouldn’t talk (he is a shy boy) and that there would be tons of awkward silences and crickets chirping…..well, the date was just the opposite! He managed to talk so much and keep the conversation going as well as ask insightful questions. We had the best time! The date involved dinner and we ended up staying at the restaurant for 4 hours! I couldn’t believe how the time had flown on by. I still smile to myself when I think of our first date!

This morning it was raining sideways and I could hear the fence boards groaning as they strained to stay upright in the howling wind. My fiance, Cameron, had to go out in that gale to work. As I buried deeper under the covers, I got a kiss on the inside of my wrist–not reproach for my continued comfort and his impending wrestling match with the elements–but a selfless, tender kiss. This memory, made in the gray hours on the border of wakefulness, is perhaps a small one when compared to some of the travels and adventures we’ve shared, but it was perfect.

One of my favorite memories of my dear and I was right after he proposed–we were so excited! Most people would break open a bottle of champagne, or spend a night on the town, but the first thing that we wanted to do was to go get celebratory ice cream cones. We go back there all the time, not only because the ice cream is delicious, but because we always like to reminisce about our wonderful, and very "us," engagement celebration.

My favorite memory is probably the moment that I knew that this guy was not just another guy, but someone special. He had already told me he liked me and I had asked for some time to think things through before I gave him an official yes or no as to whether or not to date (I know! I tortured the boy for 2 whole weeks!). We were celebrating his birthday with a large group of friends when someone mentioned that I had baked one of the birthday cakes. He finally looked me in the eyes after a whole evening of avoiding looking at me straight and had the cutest sweetest face ever! I tell him about it still to this day and he still cannot reproduce it!

My favorite memory of my fiance and I was a trip we took to my families mountain house in NC to enjoy a week of cool weather (it was in the 60’s and at home we had been in the 90’s!) and enjoy the 4th of July fireworks from our mountain top home away from home. It was a week of car riding, outdoor time together and our first time really realize how much we still had to learn from one another (My fiance caught a fish, cleaned it and cooked it for us on the grill one night.. still one of the most delicious meals I had eaten and WHO KNEW a lawyer could clean a fish!?) I think the wedding window would be great for us so we can share memories we have with our wedding guests!

My fiance and I were high school sweethearts and were together for 9 years before getting engaged. Some of my favorite memories are from the very begining of our story and include- having to get our parents to drop us off for "dates" because we both were too young to drive at first; attending my fiance’s high school football games (at a rival school) and cheering him on from the stands; making homemade Valentine’s for him with glitter and doilies; going "parking"; going through prom leadout together at our respective schools; and taking our first unchaperoned beach trip together! We were so young and innocent, and those first couple of years are so sweet to remember! And the best part- things have only gotten better since then!

One of my early memories is finding sweet notes from him in the most random places. I remember the first note was scibbled on a napkin and stuck underneath my windshield wiper. It had the chorus to one of our favorite songs. That was 7 years ago, and I still have that napkin to this day.My fiance and I have spent much of our relationship as a long-distance couple. When they say "distance makes the heart grow fonder", I have no doubt this is true. The worst part about visiting each other was when one of us had to leave. He came up with a lot of creative ways to make me feel loved after he was gone. My favorite was when I progressively found about 20 sticky notes hidden around the house. In the end, they spelled out just how much he loved me, and it was such a sweet surprise.

My favorite memory of my fiance was during one of his birthday camping trips. It was the first year I went up to Twin Rivers Landing with him and all of his buddies. One of the highlights of the trip is when everyone goes swimming in the river. Unfortunately, I didn’t know how to swim. So instead of going off to play with his buddies in the deeper section of the river, he stayed with me in the shallow end and taught me how to swim. He taught me all the different types of strokes while trying to keep us both from floating away with current. In between teaching me, he told me about his childhood memories he experienced at the campsite and on that river. It’s one of the most romantic moments that we’ve ever shared.

My favorite memory is the moment he told me he loved me for the first time. It was such a beautiful night. We were gazing at the stars and laughing without a care in the world. We were talking about how thankful we were that God had brought us together. He looked over and whispered "ich liebe dich" which is German for "I love you." I began softly crying and he had a very worried look on his face. I then began smiling and laughing and told him they were tears of joy and that I was so happy. I feel incredibly cheesy when I say this, but he honestly took my breath away in that moment.

We went to a beach in Tobago to see the leatherback turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. We stayed out late to see them after dark, and then got up very early at sunrise to see the last of them make their way back into the ocean. That morning, as we were walking back from watching the last mommy turtle lay her eggs, we noticed something moving on the sand – it was a baby turtle! We found a nest that had hatched and they were crawling up from the sand. We saved them from the birds and dogs so they could be released later that day under the cover of night.

My favorite memory with my fiance has to be the incredible proposal story that he gave me. He completely surprised me! The proposal started at 7:30am on Sat 2/13 and he didn’t propose until 1:30am on Sun 2/14! He and I met at Pine Cove Christian Camps working as family camp counselors during college and we’ve been going back every Valentine’s weekend since. They have a couples conference that weekend, and we go to help cook, serve the meals and help run camp activities. So when he asked me to go this year, I didn’t think anything of it – it was our third year to go. Well…when we got to camp Friday night there was snow on the ground (in Tyler, TX!) and the power was out–I could see it was going to be a LONG weekend. Fortunately, he stuck with his plans. Saturday morning before breakfast he told me we were going to celebrate Valentine’s day a day early and handed me a box with a letter in it and ticket stubs and momentos from dates we’ve been on. I just thought he was being sweet and romantic…I didn’t get to finish the letter before breakfast, so we came back in the afternoon to keep reading it (he had me read it outloud). It stopped in the middle of a sentence…and that’s how each letter ended — except the 6th one! So in between other boxes and letters we had to go serve dinner and clean up…I got a heart shaped chocolate cake with one of the letters and then a bouquet of gerber daisies – my favorite! And THEN…the last letter…we walked into the last building and there were candles lining the path and rose petals, two bouquets of roses and two boquets of gerber daisies, music playing and champagne glasses with a bottle of sparkling cider…and ANOTHER BOX (#6). I read the 5 pages of letter in that box (for a total of 31 typed pages) and then at the end it said he had something to read to me. He reached over and grabbed his Bible, read from Proverbs 31 and told me he loved me for the first time and then got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked me if I would marry him. I said YES!!

A memory I have of my fiance is when our friendship first began. At the time, I was working part-time as a community college instructor, and I also worked at a local Starbucks near his work. One night, he came by with diner from a local Asian grocery store. I was a bit embarrassed, wondering if it was stinking up the place, but the gesture was SO SWEET that I gobbled up my delicious dinner from a sweet sweet new friend. We started dating about a month later. ;)

Peter and I have had too many great moments for me to pick just one. While I love that we are constantly laughing with each and making the other smile, my most memorable was actually BEFORE we really started dating. We were matching on e-harmony on February 1, 2008… and ironically we signed up on the same day and were each other’s first matches. After a couples weeks of communication online, we decided to meet each other in person – on Valentine’s Day nonetheless! We were both grad students on the same campus and decided to meet up at a local place for lunch. Nothing romantic or demanding – we were just getting to know each other over a casual lunch. We had a great lunch with great conversation. While I did not tell him at the time, I will be honest and say that I had a dinner date that same evening with another guy from a different online dating website that I had been talking to. Now, the memorable moment hasn’t occurred just yet, but keep in mind that this background information is key to understanding that my most memorable moment with my love occurred when he WASN’T there! I went to meet the other guy for dinner (scandalous, I know!), and as soon as I saw him, I knew this wasn’t right. It was in that moment that I KNEW that I wanted to be with Peter. With no other person have I ever been able to be so myself. I could pick a moment that included both of us, but in a way, Peter was involved in the moment. The moment I knew it was me and him will always me memorable to me, and I am sure that the moment HE knew I was the one will always be memorable to him.

My favorite memory with my fiance comes from one of our early vacations together. It was definitely my "click" moment, where you realize that you’re done searching. We traveled down to San Antonio to visit his grandparents, who had raised him. Joseph, my fiance, took me to dinner at the place where my parents were engaged, Mi Tierra, and then to Sunken Gardens. It was absolutely gorgeous and we were the only two there. A small litter of kitties were wandering around, sans mother, and the bleeding heart within me was determined to rustle them all up and take care of them (temporarily). Joseph emptied out our suitcase and we lined it with a blanket we bring while traveling. It was somewhat chilly (November) and the kitties were definitely shivering. I kept them in the suitcase (not closed of course!) while he ran to buy some cat food and water. How could I not fall in love with a man that had no problem transitioning from taking me to a place so breathtaking to getting a job done quickly for the sake of another living thing?

all of my memories with my fiance are fantastic. There isn’t just one I would put before any of the others, but the very first would have to be the night we met. We didn’t meet in person until a whole month after we met online via an art website where I was posting my photography and writing and he was posting his poetry. We started commenting back and forth on each other’s work, he wrote mini poems for my pictures and I wrote responses to his story poems. We soon moved to email where we continued to write poetry back and forth to each other for a total of 52 emails, each one of them a fresh poem expressing how we felt about each other with beautiful visual lyrics and lines filled with wonder and excitement, knowledge and fear. It was so intimate, so safe and open, there was no judging, just complimenting, that eventually he got my number, called me, and bought a ticket to come meet me in person. I was living in Tucson at the time, he was from New York City. A few weeks later, I picked him up at the airport and we drove 3 and a half hours north to Sedona. We talked the entire time, stroked each others faces, laughed, and shared everything else we couldn’t fit into that night of flurrying words. It was so romantic and heartbreaking to think this might be the only weekend we ever get to see each other or enjoy each other’s company, that I managed to fall in love with him despite only having just "met" him. Luckily, he was so smitten with me, he moved me out to New York a month later so we didn’t have to be apart any longer. I realize this is a lot of memories rolled into one, but they all are so tied together and so crucial for our story to continue, that I feel they can only belong as a mish-mash. If one thing hadn’t happened, none of them would have. I thank my lucky stars every day for that time he left me the first comment on my picture, for being online the same time he was regardless of the time differences, and for finding my innocence once again thanks to his patience and understanding.

Favorite memory of my wonderful fiance is when he told me he loved me for the first time. We were at Gorhams Bluff in Northern Alabama, sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair. It took him 16 months but he finally said it! I’ll never forget how I felt at that moment.

I am a girl who truly enjoys anything special. I am easily amused, lucky for my sweetie. My sophomore year of college (we had just started dating), the flu attacked me. When I get sick, I really get sick. I did not look like hot stuff- skin was broken out, my hair was a mess, my nose was dry and red and I was totally rockin’ the sweats. Lucas (previously noted as ‘sweetie’), asked if we could spend some time together but I let him know that I was a walking viral plague and that he probably did not want to see me. He played it cool and said we would hang out soon. Well, not a hour later I hear the doorbell ring. I hesitantly went to the door, and who do I see? You guessed it; ‘sweetie’. Insecure as I was, I found strength to open the door and let him see my zombie(ish) features. He answered, "Hello beautiful." That was all it took and I was ready to say "I do!" He had my favorite smoothie in one hand and a single rose and ‘The Little Mermaid" (my FAVE movie of all time) in the other. I will NEVER forget how special and beautiful he made me feel when I had previously felt like death. From that moment on, I knew that he was a keeper!

Tony and I met doing a week of church camp. We played lots of crazy weird games because a) it was camp and b) camp was for 5th and 6th graders. One night we played this game where you tied an Alka-Seltzer tablet around your neck (we had drilled holes through them and strung yarn through) and then used squirt guns to dissolve the Alka-Seltzer tablets. Tony and I were opposite teams and both spent the majority of the time soaking each other. There was not one inch of my body that was dry when we were done. We hadn’t talked about anything official at all, but I knew that night that I wanted to be with him. We jokingly call that night our first date. The next day, the kids asked when we were getting married! It was so much fun and has totally defined our relationship–lots of goofiness and laughter! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life laughing with him!

Memories are something that mean more than gold itself. I have many memories with the love of my life. However, the one that sticks out the most was a very special date. My family owns a ranch, which I knew would be aperfect place for a date. I had spent several hours getting everything set up just so it would make for one of the most perfect moments that we would have in our long relationship. I picked her up around mid evening when the sun was just getting ready to start setting. We got out to my property when I made her put a blind fold on. 10 minutes later we pulled up to a pond as the sun had just slipped below the horizon. Before her lay a fire with a candle lighted area around it and a nice bed of pillows and blankets for comfort. I had packed a bottle of wine and a nice dinner of chicken kabobs which we cooked over the camp fire under God’s beautiful master piece above. Itr was a wonderful night as we listened to the summer time cricketts and the frogs on the pond while talking and dreaming the night away about our future together. It was not the first time that I realized how much I loved her but it was one of the many times that I knew from deep within my heart, that she was the girl for me, the one I would spend the rest of my life with. The one I wanted and will grow old with and be together for all of eternity. I love you Jessica, you stold my heart everytime we look into one anothers eyes!!!

Favorite memory…wow that’s tough!! My fiance and I have had almost 5 years of "favorites". However, the most special came about two months ago when he asked me to be his wife!! Patrick told me early on while we were dating that he had decided a long time ago that he wasn’t going to openly talk about getting engaged until he was proposing to his fiance. So – needless to say, I was SO surprised!! I had decided last minute to go on a ski trip with his family to Park City, Utah. On our last day of skiing, my fiance somehow convinced me to ski a few more runs with him while the rest of his family went back to the house. On our last run skiing back to the house, my fiance told me to follow him because he had something to show me. He skied off the main run into the woods. We skied to the edge of a cliff, overlooking all of Park City below us. He started talking about our relationship, how much I meant to him, etc. I still had NO clue what was going on – I mean I still had my goggles and helmet on!! He started pulling his gloves off, so I did as well thinking that we were just gonna hang out there for awhile. I was staring at the sunset, when he called my name and I turned and saw him smiling the most perfect smile, and holding the most perfect ring. The BEST day ever (even though after getting engaged I tried to jump up and down, forgetting I had skiis on, and faceplanted in the snow!)

My favorite memory is before we were even dating! We were in college and out with friends when the night started winding down and he offered to walk me back to my apartment. We ended up sitting down by one of the campus buildings to talk a little longer. We talked about everything under the sun! I told him my aspirations and he told me his. We made a promise to each other right there that we would never let one another settle for anything less than amazing. He told me that he expected us to be friends for a very long time and even if we weren’t, he would find a way to contact me years later to make sure I was completely happy with where I was in life. My fiance and I graduated from college in May 2009. Shortly after graduation, we headed to Europe for a 3 week vacation. Spending that time with my boyfriend (fiance) brought so many emotions: happiness, excitement, joy, etc. It was an incredible memory that I will cherish forever.
