Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit!  Yesterday’s Twitter contest was a hoot!  I asked people to hit me with their best southern sayings and boy did we laugh all the way to Hotlanta.  Emily and I are here for a gorgeous wedding today and just couldn’t pick three winners (prizes: 3 iTunes gift cards and a special southern something for the grand prize winner), so we’re letting y’all VOTE.  If you have trouble reading these, just click here to see yesterday’s replies.  I didn’t have time to sort through all of them and pick out non-contest replies and we didn’t include direct messages.   Voting ends Tuesday at midnight. Have fun and spread the word!  – Lara

Leave a comment with the twitter name or saying here.  Have fun y’all!

Years ago worked for a truly Southern airline…Piedmont Airlines…we used to say "Bless his/her heart" constantly, and "How’s your mom n’ em" also, "Help ou, serve you. beverage?"…..old flight attendant humor….I vote for any one of them…smiles.

Last month, we asked our loyal vendors and readers to share the causes closest to their hearts.  The responses we received were nothing short of amazing.  It’s so inspiring to be reminded that there are people who still are deeply committed to and passionate about helping those in need.

Sasha Souza’s commitment to the SEARCH Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to helping professionals in the events industry who are faced with catastrophic loss or illness, really spoke to us.  Sasha, a member of the Board of Directors and the current Events Chair responsible for planning national fundraising events,  and her colleagues are dedicated to helping individuals in need regardless of their association affiliation, rank or business contacts.  What’s unique about the SEARCH Foundation is how generously and profoundly they help event professionals, who are almost always self- or seasonally-employed and without the medical benefits and protection offered by many large companies).

The SW girls are so grateful for the positive and powerful impact SEARCH has on the entire event industry.  As a small token of our appreciation and admiration for what Sasha Souza and the SEARCH Foundation do for the talented professionals in our industry, we’d like to make a donation of our own to SEARCH and give Sasha a free ad in our November issue.

Now get ready, because this next story from two of our very favorite photographers, David and Linda Murray, is something really special (and totally appropriate for October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month).  When David’s younger sister, Ann, was first diagnosed with breast cancer at 38, this husband-and-wife duo used their talents with photography and film to make a difference in a big way.

To help Ann through her ordeal, big brother David documented her journey with his camera while Linda and Ann teamed up to make a documentary film.  The Breast Cancer Diaries initially was filmed as a non-profit venture that directed profits toward a free screening of what is an exceptionally inspiring, humorous and uplifting documentary film.  What began as a hit documentary film quickly turned into an inspiring and impassioned cause that is near and dear to this husband-and-wife team’s heart.

On the heels of their film project, David and Linda launched Project Pink, a non-profit devoted to giving help and hope to young women with breast cancer.  To reach out to, support and encourage these wonderful women, leading members of the wedding community and college sororities across the country are assembling hot pink “swag bags” filled with personal copies of The Breast Cancer Diaries, pink diaries and matching pens, pink pashminas and other items generously donated by corporate sponsors.

We were so inspired by David and Linda’s commitment to breast cancer awareness and recovery we just knew we had to get behind this pink-friendly cause.  To recognize the Murrays’ initiative, the SW girls will be creating a hot pink swag bag of our very own, filled with a bevy of pink items and lots of Southern Weddings love.  David + Linda, we can’t thank you enough for sharing this incredible story with us!

Happy Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Don’t forget to THINK PINK!

In this economic time – it’s hard to raise funds too… Not as many people are generous as in years gone past. :(

I am overwhelmed by your generosity and support of SEARCH, thank you so much from the bottom of all our hearts. I cannot wait to tell the board about the donation but most importantly that you are helping us spread the word of such an amazing organization.

Happy Friday, y’all!  We’ve got some more sponsor love to dole out today, and this next batch is another set of photographers.  There is a special place in our heart for our photographer vendors.  In case you didn’t know (my sister was very surprised to learn this), about 90% of our real weddings are submitted by photographers.  We depend on them to send us the fabulous weddings we feature every week for your inspiration and entertainment, and we pride ourselves on the great relationships we have with them.  So without further ado…

Rae and Wesley Leytham, of Rae Leytham Photography, have been long-time friends of SW and we love love love them!  Their clients always rave about their experience and we can see why.  Based in Florida, they travel world-wide and make friends with everyone they meet.  Just spend 5 minutes with the Leytham’s and we know you will fall in love too!  Their style is warm, colorful, and as vibrant as the experience they give to their couples!  Be sure to check out their blog for more southern wedding goodness.

Friends Matt and Garrett founded GB Photographers based on their mutual love for photography and for documenting the wedding days of people in love.  This duo is based in California but loves to travel for destination weddings (hint hint!).  Check out their site here and their blog here.

Next we have Christine Tremoulet, whose tagline is “a little unexpected.”  Christine is based in Houston but shoots almost exclusively destination weddings.  She’s also a whiz at boudoir photography (speaking of which, any of you ladies on the fence should check out the recently posted “shy girl’s guide” over on Weddingbee).  Check out her portfolio here, her blog here, and her tweets here.  You can also check out her business blog, Big Pink Cookie, here.

Rick Schamberger of East Hill Photo, another long-time friend and supporter of SW, describes his style as a unique blend of photojournalistic and traditional imagery, and we couldn’t agree more.  Shooting mainly in the Destin and Pensacola, Florida, areas, Rick is happy to travel, as well.  Check out his site here and blog here!  The images below were from the first shoot ever done for Southern Weddings almost two years ago- GORGEOUS!!

Next up is Kellan Studios, a husband and wife duo based in Virginia.  We are in love with the things these two do with light, as evidenced beautifully by Molly and Chris’ wedding (featured on the SW blog here).  Check out Kelly and Ryan’s site here and their hilarious tweets here.

And last, but certainly not least, we have Stacy Reeves.  Stacy is such a kind, fun soul, and we know she would do a fabulous job documenting your day in her signature “vintage modern” style (sounds like a contradiction, but is totally fitting!).  She’s based in Dallas.  Check out her site here, her blog here, and her tweets here.  Love these, Stacy!

Again, a huge, warm, SW thank you from all of us here in the office.  We know we say this a lot, but it definitely bears repeating: we couldn’t do what we do without these lovely friends, and even more than that, we really believe in their work and want to share it with you.  We hope you’ll take a moment to visit their sites and send them a little SW love!

If you want to get in on the SW sponsor love fest email Katharine for a fall edition media kit [katharine at iloveswmag dot com].  She’ll be delighted to hear from you!

P.S. Just two weeks left to reserve your November print edition ad!  They’re going fast, so hop like a bunny over to Katharine’s inbox right… now!

Kudos to SW for featuring so much work from community submissions. It goes to show that there is so much talent out there in the world beyond the staged commercial work. The commercial stuff is amazing, too, but I really respect SW for showing us what the real events can look like from behind the lens!
