Good morning!  I usually wake up on Monday to a slew of unexciting business emails, so it’s a joy to discover a new vendor amidst all of the hussle and bussle of Monday morning.  I just got an email from Gia at the fabulous stationery boutique, betsywhite…

“My name is Gia Graham and I am a graphic designer based in Atlanta and owner of betsywhite stationery boutique, an online store specializing in wedding invitations and event stationery. Our goal at betsywhite is to offer brides stylish, affordable design. I absolutely adore paper products and when I decided to focus on wedding invitation design four years ago, my specialty was highly custom wedding stationery. Over time, I realized that there were many brides who had great style and great taste but simply could not afford high-end custom stationery and were forced to opt for less-than-stellar alternatives. With that realization, I decided to cater to those brides and offer beautiful, budget-friendly wedding stationery. We offer wedding stationery and wedding logos which we think would be a great fit for today’s southern bride.”

I LOVE her site and you have to check out her gorgeous blog, Flights of Fancy.

Contest Prize: One lucky SW reader will get a $100 gift certificate to betsywhite

How to enter: This is an easy one.  Since Halloween is this Friday, tell us about the cutest Halloween costume you’ve ever seen or worn.  Did your mom dress you up as a pumpkin complete with stem hat (ok, that was me… true story).  We’ll pick a random winner.  Contest ends on Halloween!

The cutest costume I’ve ever seen is a couple dressing up as characters from the Stepford Wives… complete with pearls and a headband!

When I was about 10, a friend and I cut holes in big moving boxes, painted them white, and glued black felt circles on them. We were a pair of dice. We thought we were pretty clever!

When we were young, my mom dressed up a dear friend and I like southern belles – with petticoats and everything. We thought we were Scarlett O’Hara! It was so much fun – I wanted to wear that costume every year!

When me and my sister were in grade school, my dad made us robot costumes. Cardboard boxes covered in foil with decorative fabric as buttons, arms and legs were covered in that white plastic dryer duct. We won the schools custume contest.

Such an adorable site! I love it!

I think my favorite costume was Belle (Beauty and the Beast). I must have been like 7 or 8 and I just remember thinking how pretty I looked with my hair up, and my pretty dress. Ah, good times.

Growing up money was tight, but my mom always came up with the most inventive costumes with little to work with. her most creative costume was when she made me into half a pair of dice using just a cardboard box and paint. I have to admit it was a little hard walking around, but I got best costume that year!

I will always remember being dressed up as Strawberry Shortcake one year when I was little…complete with brown eyeliner pencil freckles.

Im not sure if this is as cute as it is hilarious— when I was five I was an energizer bunny, and my younger sister was a battery… I still tease my mom for being so random.

The cutest costume I have ever seen was my nephew when he was 9 months old. His parents dressed up as farmers and he was their pet chicken. The thing that made it so cute is that he was just learning to walk, so he looked like a real chicken walking around the house.

I think one of the cutest outfits I’ve seen was of a baby in a Finding Nemo outfit. She looked like a big stuffed animal!!

My mom used to make our costumes (side note: is 23 too old to ask for this same privilege?) and she was quite crafty with the black cat, clown, pink power ranger, magician, and the winner: the witch costume (including make up) that was so creepy I scared the other children on wear-your-costume to school day.

To be honest the cutest costume I have ever seen was a chihuahua dressed up like Yoda from Star Wars. Adorable!

This piñata costume has to be the cutest thing I’ve seen in a really long time. (Link)

My grandmother once made my little brother (2 years old at the time) and me (4 then) matching clown costumes. We were so cute together, people kept accusing him of being a girl!

  16. avatar Emily reply

The cutest costume I’ve ever worn was Scarlett O’Hara in the third grade… I think I would have been happy wearing that hoop skirt for the rest of my life!

  17. avatar Jess reply

I was once an all-silver fairy princess, complete with a floor-length tulle gown… I fell over a lot.

  18. avatar Elizabeth reply

When I was in the sixth grade, I wore the most beautiful pink southern belle hoop skirt gown a la Scarlett O’Hara with my matching hat. I thought it was fabulous but I remember my classmates teasing me. My mother thought I was adorable.

The cutest costume I’ve ever seen was a little boy (about 5 or 6) wearing a cardboard box that was decorated like a present in colorful wrapping paper. He had holes cut out for his head, legs and arms. He had a big floppy bow on his his head, and the sign around his neck said, "God’s gift to girls"! Too adorable!

The cutest was a girl who dressed as the Morton Iodized Salt girl. She had the yellow dress, the yellow shoes, a blond boob cut wig, and an enormous umbrella. All the while carrying the salt container. I thought it was so great!

My favorite Halloween costume EVER: When my brother and I were little, our mom once dressed us up as a mouse and cheese. My little brother was a mouse with his cute little nose, ears and tail. And me (so not glamorous): a giant nurf piece of swill cheese. :) We loved it! And the pictures we have are too precious – although still a ltitle embarrassing!

  22. avatar Alison reply

When my friend was little, she wore a painted cardboard box (I’m noticing that’s a theme with the other comments too!) with a roof "hat" and she was a house for Halloween. A house. I can’t wait to have the authority to say, "ok honey this year you will dress up as a residential building!"

  23. avatar SAR reply

My favorite Halloween costumes of all times were the ones my mom dressed my brother and me in for Halloween ’89. We were a mouse and cheese. My little brother looked so adorable with his little mouse ears, nose and tail. And then there was me: totally unglamorous in a giant nurf swiss cheese costume! At once totally mortifying and just too much fun. :)Thanks for the contest!

My mom dressed me up as strawberry shortcake and my brother as ET. They are handmade costumes and we were on the front page of the newspaper that Halloween. I still have the picture, framed, to this day!

This is a tough call. I love halloween. However, I’m pretty fickle and get happy every year about planning the next great thing. So, this year (at 28, mind you), I’m going as Princess Loly – the lollypop princess from Candy Land! I’m planning on continuing to dress up as things that little girls dress up as until I have kids to dress up; then maybe I’ll start going with more adult things. ;)

  26. avatar Dana reply

I think my favorite outfit was Raggedy Ann. My mom made a red yarn wig, I had the painted on freckles & those funny pantaloons. I loved that costume!!

Our family loves Halloween and my mom always made me and my sisters costumes every year. My older sister has now picked up where my mom left off and she makes Halloween costumes for her daughtere. Last year my niece was Cleopatra, complete with the sleek black wig and everything. She was absolutely stunning and it was by far my favorite costume. :-)

The cutest costume i have ever seen was definitely my co-workers 6 year old twin girls at last year’s halloween party — as is often the case with twins, one is a total tom boy and the other a girly girl … one was dressed as a cowgirl and the other a cowboy, it was beyond adorable!!

I used to babysit for Triplets in college. When they were 2 years old their mother dressed them up like the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion from the Wizard of Oz. The mother was Dorothy and I went as the witch with my dog who looks like Toto. We were the whole movie in one group!

My best costume memory was when I was in 1st grade… We had a costume party at school. I was a cat and my dad was the hat. At the time I was just learning to read and I was obsessed with cat and the hat.

My cutest costume was when my mom dressed my twin brother in I up in bumble bee costumes. We always had to match since we were the twins of the family.

My little 4 year old nephew dressed up as Winnie the Pooh last year and he was just darling!!

  33. avatar samanth55 reply

Oh this is easy: my brand new nephew (he’s 7 weeks old!!) is celebrating his first Halloween in a baby monkey costume, complete with little ears and a little tail and a little nose, and with a little branch to match :) My sister-in-law is going as Jane Goodall, and my brother is going as a King Gorilla. My nephew in his little monkey costume is by far the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!!!

  34. avatar Lesley reply

Gotta love the role reversal: my friends are new parents and they are dressing in onesies with pacifiers, bottles, etc. and dressing their 2 month old baby girl as an old man!
