How I got into weddings: I have always been interested in cake decorating and design! I was brave/crazy enough to make our own wedding cake when Josh and I got married, and that actually launched me into business! Our venue loved the cake so much that they contacted us after the wedding and asked me if I would be their exclusive baker!, so I quit my job right then and officially started Ashley Cakes! Josh was not working with me at the time, but with a background in art and design, it only took about two years before he joined me full-time in the kitchen.
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? Josh and I were both raised in the NC, so we love and have a deep appreciation for all things Southern! For me, I love the unique style of Southern brides to incorporate rustic and vintage design elements into their weddings. But my absolute favorite thing has to be the Southern food and cakes that taste like grandma made them!
Favorite part of a wedding day? For us, we usually miss our personal favorite moment of the day! I love to see the look on the bride and groom’s faces when they see their wedding cake for the first time, and of course the cake cutting! It gives us such fulfillment and joy!
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? Don’t get too caught up in all the little details! Choose a great set of vendors, give them some good guidance and ideas of your vision, and then let them go to work. You should just focus on enjoying your wedding day!
