From the time I woke up on the Thursday before my wedding to the time our rehearsal began on Friday, the world whizzed past in a non-stop blur. Not a crazed blur, but just a this-train-has-left-the-station-and-there’s-no-stopping-it-now blur. We arrived at the church in one piece, but I would not have trusted myself to remember tiny details like packing my toothbrush in that span of time. Enter: the Southern Weddings Wedding Day Packing List! Print this little gem out and tuck it away until the week before your weddings, ladies, when I guarantee your overworked brain will be relieved to have it to rely on. You can download your own copy here!

And P.S.: looking for more wedding morning tips? Check out our best advice (and more checklists!) in the Southern Weddings Planner!

I don’t know about y’all, but how I start the morning tends to set the tone for the rest of my day. With a healthy breakfast, a cup of coffee, and maybe even a few extra minutes to pick out my outfit, I’m much more happy and productive for the rest of the day. At Southern Weddings, we think that this same idea holds true on your wedding day. With a little bit of preparation and forethought, you can ensure that the day will start in a peaceful and stress-free way, letting you focus on what really matters: getting married! With the help of our friends at Freixenet, we’ve compiled our best tips for your wedding morning.

Choose your location wisely.
Be honest with yourself when considering the best place to get ready. Will your childhood home put you at ease, or will a week’s worth of detail DIY-ing lingering in the air make you anxious? Will the bridal room at your church make you feel more comfortable about not running late, or will the lack of natural light make you feel a little claustrophobic? Everyone’s needs are different, but a pretty, clean, light-filled room with plenty of mirrors and outlets is generally the best place to start. We shot these photos in one of the suites at The Umstead in Cary, North Carolina, and with its huge windows (and gorgeous views!), beautiful furniture, and ample space to spread out and get ready, we think it’s a prime example of a great wedding morning room!

Another tip: when you’re getting ready, keep purses, dress bags, coats, etc. contained in one part of the room–hidden, if possible. Not only will a clutter-free room help you relax, it’ll also make your wedding morning pictures clean and beautiful.

Know your timeline.
The ultimate essential for a stress-free morning? Knowing you have plenty of time. Coordinate the amount of time you need to get ready with your hair stylist and makeup artist, taking into account all of the people who need to be attended to (perhaps bridal party, moms, grandmas, flower girls, and, of course, you!). If you’re going to a salon, overestimate the time it takes you to drive back and forth. Ask a responsible bridesmaid to keep an eye on the clock and gently enforce the schedule. If you haven’t created a wedding day timeline yet, find our tips for doing so here.

Consider your attire.
Slipping into a pretty robe, crisp monogrammed shirt, or even a cute, strapless dress or coverup will help you feel special from the moment you wake up. Just make sure that whatever you wear can be stepped out of easily to prevent smudging your makeup or mussing your hair!

Designate a point person.
Phone calls from vendors, friends, and even your wedding guests on the morning of the wedding are almost unavoidable. Have your mom or a bridesmaid take charge of your phone to field all questions and concerns that may come your way, so you can sit back and relax!

Don’t forget about food and drinks!
Y’all, we cannot stress enough how important it is to remember to eat on your big day! We love fresh, light finger foods that are delicious and easy to eat in between turns on the makeup chair, like these sandwiches and sweets prepared by The Umstead. Make each of your bridesmaids feel extra special by stenciling her monogram (see below for a tutorial!) onto mini bottles of Freixenet–the matte black bottles are perfect for this! She can drink straight from the bottle with a pretty straw, or pour the sparkling wine into a glass with juice for a morning mimosa. This is the start of a celebration, after all!

As responsible bloggers, we did take a sip from these dainty bottles while shooting these photos, and we can personally certify that this sparkling, bubbly drink would be perfect for a celebratory wedding morning! The Freixenet winery is still family-owned with a rich history that stretches over 100 years, beginning when two winemaking families decided to make sparkling wine in the classic tradition of methóde champenoise, using indigenous Spanish grapes from their vineyards. The Ferrer family’s dedication to detail and quality is this cava’s distinguishing mark – it’s still completely harvested by hand!

Plan special touches in advance.
A few little details will make getting ready feel more like a special event in itself. You don’t need much–we love cute straws, bows around mini Freixenet bottles, personalized hangers, and a simple floral arrangement, to name a few. We suggest brainstorming and preparing these details as soon as possible–by the week of the wedding, there will most likely be other things you’ll need to focus on.

Make a playlist.
We love this tip! Nothing sets a mood quite like the perfect playlist, and whether you’re anticipating a quiet, serene morning or a pre-wedding dance party with your best gals, music will help set the tone for whatever kind of morning will make you feel your best.

Bring your invitation suite.
This may sound like an odd thing to pack into your wedding morning tote bag, but if you want your photographer to capture beautiful pictures of your paper products, it’s essential! As well as paper, be sure to lay out any details you may want photographed–perhaps your jewelry, your somethings old/new/borrowed/blue, your perfume, etc.

Now about those monogrammed Freixenet bottles! It’s no secret that the Southern Weddings gals love monograms, and we think the idea of gifting bridesmaids with a custom bottle is so special.

1. Design a monogram on the computer and print it out on cardstock. Make sure the lines are on the thick side, since you’ll be cutting them out! We used the font “Circle Monograms” (available here) to make ours.
2. With an X-Acto knife, cut out the monogram to create a stencil.
3. Carefully remove the label from a Freixenet bottle and use the stencil to outline the monogram in pencil. We found soaking the bottles in water helps.
4. Go over your pencil lines with gold sharpie, and then fill in the letters.
5. Add a little border–we love these cava-inspired polka dots!

What are your wedding morning plans? If you’d like your wedding day to include Freixenet, be sure to enter the All Love Sparkles sweepstakes on their Facebook page–you could win 125 mini Freixenet bottles, like the ones seen in this post, as well as a Memory Magnum bottle. Good luck!

In putting together this post, I’ve grown very jealous of all of you who can enter this giveaway. The Southern Weddings ladies have long been admirers of Plum Pretty Sugar’s colorful robes. In the dozens of times that I’ve changed my mind about what my future wedding will look like, the one thing that has stayed the same is that all of my bridesmaids and I will be wearing Plum Pretty Sugar robes. (Okay, that and the string lights.)

Plum Pretty Sugar’s new Castelbel & Trumpet collection is like the cherry on top of an already wonderful collection of loungerie, as the ladies at PPS call it! These ultra-feminine robes are made to compliment the wearer with scoop back silhouettes, gathered seams and luxe sashes. The pretty pastel colors make the collection even more romantic, with each pattern differing slightly from the others.

If you’re getting excited just thinking about wearing these beauties on the morning of your wedding, then you’ll be pleased to know we’re giving away one of these lovely robes!

The morning of our wedding I intend to wake up early in anticipation (I do it for client’s weddings, so I can’t imagine how I wouldn’t do it for my own! :), enjoy some coffee and toast on our screened-in porch (gazing out at the fields on my family’s farm), and eagerly wait as all of my six bridesmaids arrive to get prettified upstairs, drink mimosas , and listen to the Wedding Day Playlist I’ve been compiling for months! I took every song that mentions “I’m gonna get married!” Or “I met the man I’m gonna marry!”, lots of songs from the Father of the Bride Soundtrack, and staple songs we’re incorporating in our ceremony and reception. I made one for my best friend for her wedding June 24th, too!

I’m spending the morning of my wedding with all my favorite women — my bridesmaids, mother, and future mother-in-law (and hopefully we will all be decked out in these gorgeous robes)!!

But, before we finish getting gussied up, we are arranging a quick run over to the wedding guest luncheon, to grab a couple ham biscuits before the main event! Even if we have to blindfold the groom, you couldn’t make me miss out on a biscuit on my big day!

The morning of my wedding I’m waking up and going down to the hotel’s gym for a “wog” (part walk, part jog…I try!) and then walking to the nearest Starbucks for a treat :) After that it’ll be makeup and hair and photos with the wedding party before the ceremony begins!

Then I will quickly get out of bed and do my song and dance, because my life is a musical. The morning of my wedding day, I’ll wake up early even though I will want to sleep in late so a few more hours will pass making time closer to when I’ll walk down the aisle to begin a new life with Blake, my amazing fiance. Yes, I’ll begrudgingly wake up early and then remind myself to be nice, even though it’s early and I don’t do mornings, it is after all my wedding day and I should soak it all in. By the time I eat breakfast with my bridesmaids, I won’t have to remind myself as my early-morning-monster self vanishes. Besides, I have the best kind of girls who can make me laugh at any ungodly hour! Everything will start to sink in by now, and because I am a sentimental person, this is the time I’ll feel grateful for my friends who are there with me on my wedding day and the first tears of the day will be shed as my heart will just swell with happiness. After breakfast, I’ll remember my Plum Pretty Sugar robe and dash upstairs to put it on so I can get ready for my Big Day. When I come back downstairs, my bridesmaids will ooh and ahh over how pretty it looks. I’ll smile and tell them I’m so glad they like it because I bought each of them a robe to get ready in, too! Then, I’ll give them all their bridesmaids’ gifts. Of course, we’ll take pictures in them and then turn on some music so we can start what I’m sure we’ll deem cleverly “The Getting Ready Party.” My grandmother, who is a retired hairdresser and has done my hair my whole life, will once more do my hair. I’m sure it will be a special moment for us both and I’ll want it photographed so I’ll be able to look back on that moment forever. Once we’re all ready as far as hair and make-up goes, we’ll head down to the venue, a gorgeous old cotton mill in downtown Augusta GA right next to the Augusta Canal. From there, my mom and I will discuss last minute details and have a moment to ourselves full of big smiles and tears even if that means re-doing our make-up. Now, it’s dress time! I’ll put on my gown, try not to cry this time but it will be hard not to in front of my friends and family members present. So we’ll do another touch up, no big deal! My fiance and I have decided we’ll do a first look. At first, I didn’t understand why people did them, I always wanted that special moment walking down the aisle. Someone explained it to me, though, as having that time where it’s only the two of you and no one else. The rest of the day will be full of guests congratulating, pictures, and spending time talking and dancing, so we decided we would want that quiet time before the celebrating began! From this point on, the ceremony begins and I’ll try my best to make mental pictures but I’ll only notice Blake. For the rest of my life, I’ll be the happiest woman because of him!

On January 5th, I will surely be laying awake in the early morning hours just full of jittery excitement over walking down the aisle and grasping the hands of the one my heart loves! My momma will most likely be up too and bring me a cup of hot tea to warm my hands and heart with her sweet advice and loving words. As soon as the sun peaks through the trees I will be up and at it, checking my DIY flowers and wrapping them up in a few little bits of vintage love from my grandparents home, making sure my mismatched china is placed perfectly, and hoping that my hair will behave itself for once! Soon I will be with my seven sisters from college that will be standing beside me and the giddiness will ensue…especially after a couple shots of espresso! We will be a mess of Tiffany blue and vintage creams with a loving handful of pearls sprinkled in. And when we arrive at the old school- turned- church, my heart may just spring into a full-blown gallop of joy! I am getting married…today!! :D

The morning of our wedding, I’ll wake up with my sisters and best friends in our hotel. We’ll make ourselves a nice fruit platter and enjoy that with some toast and coffee. Then I’ll have my girls help me complete my something blue: We’re going to glue on blue rhinestones on the bottom of my sunshine yellow shoes the phrase “I DO.” Which is also great because blue and yellow are our wedding colors. Then we’ll all get ready in the hotel room and head over to our venue. The venue is an old military home, and they have one of the bedrooms preserved. So when we arrive my dress will be hanging from the bedframe, waiting for me! Once I’m changed, we’ll sip champagne with raspberries and giggle nervously until I’m ready to meet my best friend down the aisle.
    Sounds perfect to me!

The morning of my wedding, I’d like to say I’ll be sleeping in, but who are we kidding. I’ll be up bright and early to have a quiet cup of coffee with my parents, brother and sister…our last family meal before my husband-to-be joins the crew. Then its off to a local bed and breakfast to meet up with all my bridesmaids for the bridesmaid brunch. Afterwards, we will all head to an old historic home where the reception is being held. I imagine we will spend lots of girly time just hanging out getting our hair and make up done. What I am looking forward to the most is the time spent with all my family and my beautiful bridesmaids who are a mix of high school, college, and adult friends from all over the country. What an exciting time for all of us to sip champagne, catch up and listen to great pre-wedding tunes together!

My sister and I will be camping out in my Mom’s living room sleep over style and waking up to a yummy breakfast with the family before we all head off to get prettied-up and pampered to say, “I do.”

I can’t wait to eat bagels and drink coffee with my best friends in my hotel room the morning of my wedding. We have a room overlooking Lake Michigan in my south loop neighborhood of Chicago – I can’t wait to show off my new home to my out of town besties! Hopefully we’ll also get a run in before too, if it isn’t too icy – we’re getting married in November!

The morning of my wedding I plan prayer to be the first thing on the agenda. My wedding will begin early at 9:00 am and the brides maids and I will have a beautiful prayer together along with my mom and fiances’ mom and grandmother. We will then have a light breakfast as we sit and allow the elder women give me words of wisdom and advise as I move to the next level in my life. I look forward to this beautiful and haeartfelt moment. It’s going to be a joy listenting and taking in all the wonderful knowledge they will have to share with me.
