I don’t know about y’all, but I think one of the best feelings in the world is lounging on the beach with a good book, which is why I’m excited that Southern author Mary Alice Monroe is releasing her newest novel, A Lowcountry Wedding, on May 3, just in time for those warm beach days coming up! As the fourth installment in her New York Times bestselling series, this newest addition shares the story of three half-sisters and their grandmother working to rebuild family bonds, all while showcasing the unique loveliness and charm of both a seaside and a plantation wedding.

A longtime resident of Charleston, Mary Alice knows firsthand the beauty that the Lowcountry has to offer, and uses its Spanish moss-draped trees and refreshingly laid back Southern elegance as inspiration in her novels. Sounds right up our alley!

Richard Bell Photography

Not only are we so excited for this book to hit the shelves, but Mary Alice is offering readers an amazing gift to celebrate: the chance for one couple to have a free (yes, free!) dream wedding in Charleston! She has teamed up with the Charleston Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and Ashley Rhodes Event Designs (the talented lady behind this and this wedding we’ve featured, to name a few!), along with many other talented vendors, to give away a wedding to a very lucky couple.

To enter, simply fill out this form, which includes a place to submit a brief video highlighting why a Lowcountry wedding is important to you and your beau. The deadline to enter is May 31. A panel of judges will then select a handful of finalists on June 13, leaving the rest of the contest in the hands of the public to vote for the winner (to be announced on June 27)!

For more information and details of this fabulous prize package, head on over to Mary Alice Moore’s website, Facebook, or Twitter. Don’t forget to look for A Lowcountry Wedding on shelves this May (and our fingers are crossed for you and your beau)!

It’s hard to believe that mine and Emily‘s Texas trip was almost two months ago! We had a great time in my home state working on our first two editorials of the year, road tripping through blue bonnet fields, and of course, meeting lots of Texan readers! We held reader meet-ups in both cities we visited, and kicked it off with a super fun meet-up/Southern Weddings Shop pop-up shop at the beautiful BHLDN store in downtown Houston. We thought we’d share a few photos from our lovely morning with the BHLDN ladies and all of our new Houston friends–don’t miss the fun surprise from BHLDN at the bottom of the post!

Thank you so much to Christa Elyce for snapping these lovely photos of the event!

Carla of Whisk Bakery provided the most delectable treats–the fact that it was 10 A.M. didn’t stop us from digging into the blueberry lemon and french toast mini cupcakes, Mexican hot chocolate brownies, and peanut butter marshmallow sandwiches!

Even if you didn’t have the opportunity to attend and take a look around BHLDN’s gorgeous store, you’re in luck, because they have generously offered to give away four of their beautiful accessories to one lucky reader! The winner will receive a Perle Bracelet, the Layla Drop earrings in silk/clear, a Pumila Bridesmaid Sash in ice, and a Goldleaf Hairpin. These pieces are perfect for bridesmaid gifts–you can gift one to each gal according to what fits her personal style best. To enter, visit BHLDN’s website and leave a comment to let us know which of their bridesmaid dresses is your favorite! The deadline is 9:00 AM on May 26, and the winner will be chosen randomly.

Please note that this giveaway is only open to US readers, and is only for the four items shown above. Good luck!

With holiday shopping season in full swing, we thought there was no better time to share this year’s Surcees feature! In case you’re not familiar, “surcee” is a Southern term for a little gift given unexpectedly, and we have so much fun rounding up products from across the South and beyond to include in each issue. Our V7 surcees, photographed by Brett & Jessica, are made up of our favorite things for people in four different categories: newlyweds, brides and grooms, ladies (such as bridesmaids, moms, and hostesses), and foodies. We hope they help you check the last few people off of your list for the holidays, as well as get your wheels turning for gifting ideas throughout your engagement. Be sure to enter the giveaway below for a chance to win one of these goodies for yourself, too!

First up, a few sunny finds for newlyweds! We love these as housewarming gifts, wedding presents, or a special little something you treat yourself to post-honeymoon.

Clockwise from top left: Mr. & Mrs. Mug Set ($38, Lindsay Letters), custom canning labels ($25 for 20, Felix Doolittle), custom family crest ($175, Juliet Grace Design), camellia napkin ring ($19, Oxford Exchange), 9 oz. “tomato” soy candle ($24, Produce Candles), embroidered pineapple cocktail napkins ($42 for set of 4, Lettermade), North Carolina state plate ($78, Corbe Company), hostess square soap set ($39, Mark and Graham), “how to pray for your husband” bookmark ($3, Gather and Dwell)

From bouquet ribbons to bow ties, we loved rounding up these special details for your big day!

Clockwise from top left: pink and navy plaid bow tie ($38, The Belle and the Beau), lace plates ($25-48, Food52), state ring bearer pillow ($25, Emily Steffen), polka dot bow tie ($55, Collared Greens), Diamond Monogrammed Sandal ($168, Jack Rogers), velvet ring boxes ($75, The Mrs. Box), sixpence necklace ($49, Crow Steals Fire), linen stripe bow tie ($60, Southern Proper), hand-dyed silk ribbon ($24-33 for 6 yards, Froufrou Chic), pink seersucker bow tie ($50, High Cotton Ties), velvet ribbon ($30, Sara Kate Studios), ceremonial marriage certificate ($45, Southern Weddings Shop)

A whole wagon full of gifts wouldn’t be quite enough to thank the special ladies who help us to the aisle, from our mamas to our house parties. Along with a gracious handwritten note, we think these sweet surcees are a pretty good start, though!

Clockwise from top left: 14 oz. “gardenia” soy candle ($30, Sydney Hale Co.), Sweet Tea Sugah scrub ($20, The Charleston Soap Chef), lavender and lemongrass bar soap ($7, Seychelles Soap Co.), rose daily body serum ($39, One Love Organics), monogrammed pashmina scarf ($28, Dixieland Monogram), cotton pearl initial bracelet ($98, John Wind Maximal Art), navy gingham clutch ($129, Ila Handbags), Greek charms in antique gold ($67 each, Diana Warner Studio), Southern sayin’ pencil set ($15 for set of 6, Stephanie Creekmur), 15-piece New Orleans chocolate collection ($31, Sucre), Sweet Tea print ($20, Southern Weddings Shop)

A delectable food or heirloom-worthy kitchen accessory makes a welcome gift for any occasion. We love these ideas as gifts for hostesses, neighbors, or anyone who could use a little something special!

Clockwise from top left: spiced watermelon pickles ($9.99, Pickled Pink Foods), cast iron drop biscuit pan ($45, Food52), fried chicken rub ($14, Blackberry Farm), sweet tea concentrate ($7-12, Moonshine Sweet Tea), Wellfleet oyster, littleneck clam, and crab knives with leather wrap ($150, Food52), red velvet cake mix ($5.99, Old School)

We are so excited to give away some of the beautiful things from this feature! Just leave us a comment on this post letting us know which surcee you’d like to win (please note, the products that are up for grabs are in bold above and listed in the graphic below)!

Winners for all nine surcees will be chosen and emailed on December 15!
