Let’s face it, friends, we love our sweet beaus, but sometimes you need a few days with your best gal pals on a gorgeous beach with a (monogrammed) koozie in your hand, and your toes in the white sand! Can’t you just imagine how much fun that would be? Well, in today’s edition of our Summer in the South series, we’re going on a beach getaway! Grab your girls and your Jack Rogers and let’s get road trippin’, y’all!

A. In this hot Southern sun, a girl has to keep her skin protected. Don’t forget to lather on the Coppertone!

B. Feeling a bit pale? A little St. Tropez on your legs before you go will keep you looking sun-kissed without the risk.

C. Whether it’s inviting your girls on the trip or sending out a sweet thank you after, I’m dying over these adorable bikini notecards from Design Darling! Don’t they make you want to put on some Barbie pink lipstick?

D. To me, the summer means seersucker! This Marley Lilly monogrammed cosmetic bag is the perfect summer size bag! Toss a bit of cash, some lipgloss and your ID and stash in your beach bag!

E. Add a little nautical flair to any outfit with these Swell Caroline anchor earrings! Now, all you need is a striped tee and some red shorts!

F. Whether they’re for a rainy day game of war or a girls night game of hearts, I cannot think of a Southern girl who doesn’t need a set of personalized playing cards!

G. Giant bow, bandeau bikini top, and SEC colors available. Enough said – adorable!

H. This J. McLaughlin duffle is the perfect weekender bag for the rough-on-luggage girl (like myself)! It’s actually made of durable sail material!

I. Nicole and I are both crushing on this C. Wonder Girlfriend shirt! We’re pretty sure it’s the ultimate gingham shirt for the summer!

J. Follow Kate’s lead, and dive in! One can’t go wrong with this super fun Kate Spade beach towel!

K. My friend, Emily Ley, and I have kind of a koozie obsession, and these monogrammed ones are right up our alley!

Welcome back to our Summer in the South series! For today’s post, I’m excited to introduce you to a fabulous Southern guest blogger — A Southern Lady! She and I met via Twitter, and (unsurprisingly) became instant BFFs! Not sure if it’s our love of anything (and everything) monogrammed, or the fact that she’s a good ol’ Southern girl like myself, but either way, if you don’t follow her, you should!

Y’all know it can get hot as a tin roof on a sunny day here in the South, so our friend A Southern Lady is here to share her summertime essentials to keep you looking and feeling cool.

A. In the summer, you simply cannot go wrong with a maxi dress! This watercolor Charlie Jade dress is straight from A Southern Lady’s closet! She says its sleek look “is the perfect combination for a killer outfit on a hot summer day, or a cool summer night.” Ah-greed!

B. Don’t worry about a bad hair day with this adorable and monogrammed beach hat form Marley Lilly. Marley Lilly has an amazing selection of colors and monogram fonts, but A Southern Lady thinks you can’t go wrong with the traditional interlocking font!

C. Let me start by saying how obsessed I am with scoring this next pick! This J. Crew Bubble Necklace is such an amazing accessory! A Southern Lady suggests adding it to a plain v-neck to spice up a look, or pair it with a maxi dress to make it more fun! She says these necklaces go with everything and will grab everyone’s attention.

D. Jack Rogers is the epitome of classic Southern style, and these ones are GLITTERY! It doesn’t get any better than that. These Navajo sandals are comfortable and super stylish.

E. This Nail Life nail revitalizer definitely falls under “essentials” for A Southern Lady. Summer to her means a different bright color nail polish every day, and this revitalizer keeps her nails strong and healthy and looking great for all of those new polishes!

F. Summer is the perfect time for white jeans! Pair them with a bright colored or patterned top and some wedges and you are set! But don’t be caught sporting these before Memorial Day – definitely A Southern Lady no no!

G. You know what they say — “the bigger the hair, the closer to God.” A Southern Lady says this phrase was invented because of Kenra 25 Volume Hair Spray! This is the only hairspray she’s ever used that makes her hairstyle stay, no matter the humidity, without weighing it down! She even carries a travel size in her purse at all times.

H. Want to feel pretty in pink? A Southern Lady swears by Chanel Lip Gloss in Desir! Although pricey, it has the best color and feeling of any lip gloss she’s ever used. Definitely a summer essential!

I. The sun can dry out your skin so badly while you’re bronzing in the sun with your girls. MAC Studio Moisture Cream will work wonders and keep your skin looking young and feeling great after a long summer!

J. You can never go wrong with a great pair of nude wedges! The color goes with almost anything, and can dress up or dress down an outfit. Whether it be a night out at the beach, or a casual date with a cutie, every Southern girl will look amazing in a pair of nude wedges.

K. Nothing says summer like stripes, and y’all know I die for anything with a bow on it! So this bandeau set might need to make an appearance in my closet! The fun combo is a perfect touch to make your beach trip even better!

What are some of your summer essentials to survive a hot Southern day? Don’t forget to let us know and leave our friend, A Southern Lady, some love on Twitter!

I plan on having brunch with the most important women in my life. My mom, grandma, aunt and sister/ maid of honor. We will then make our way to the wonderful Legare Waring House in Charleston where me and my 11 bridesmaid will spend the day getting ready and laughing together. I am looking forward to recording those sweet moments with them and taking some pictures. It will be so exciting to think that my Fiance and his groomsmen will be right below our rooms doing the same thing!

To me, nothing screams summertime quite like a good barbecue, cookout or picnic. You know everyone else is thinking the same thing when you walk outside and smell charcoal and sizzling burgers. Barbecues are all about taking advantage of the warm weather to gather your friends and family outside for one the most basic acts of community and caring: breaking bread.

Whether you’re planning a casual rehearsal dinner, engagement party or just trying to get some good grub on the table, the basics are the same. Ditch the fancy china and head outdoors — just don’t forget a sunhat and some bug spray!

A. Grab a blanket and pop a squat on the grass. We love this tablecloth for its summery berry pattern, but also because spilled barbecue sauce blends right in!

B. Ain’t nothin’ we love more than an adorable koozie! Keep your hands warm and dry while sporting your monogram.

C. Gingham basket liners are perfect for catching cole slaw drips and corralling hush puppies.

D. Leave the fancy ceramic berry baskets at home. These cute wooden baskets are ideal for passing around strawberries and blueberries.

E. No one wants a fly in their drink! These mason jar sippers keep a top on your drink while sporting a straw for easy hydration in between games of cornhole or frisbee.

F. Pull your hair back (and away from dripping barbecue sauce!) with this fabric headband.

G. A handy kitchen towel goes a long way for the grill master. We like the cheeky reminder on this option.

H. Versatile, biodegradable and fun-sized, these sporks are the only utensil you’ll need for baked beans and strawberry shortcake.

I. Dress up your outdoors a bit with sunny patterned bunting.

J. We know barbecues are finger-lickin’ good, but don’t forget the moist wipes for those extra sticky fingers. Find a site to customize them for extra fun.

K. Y’all know no gathering’s complete without a pie! Bring your mama’s best recipe in this fluted dish.

What are your summer barbecue essentials?
