Google+ Green and White Alabama Wedding by Kim Box, Part I - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

Sometimes I look at the images for these Real Weddings and I don’t know how to start talking about them. Take Beverly + Curtis’s wedding, for example. Their green and white color scheme and pecan orchard setting can’t justly describe how intimate, yet grand, their ceremony was. The tall trees of the orchard enveloped the bridal party and guests while providing a vast amount of space for their vows to be heard. It’s an appropriate venue for B + C’s wedding, since Beverly’s father planted the orchard the year she was born. Even more nods to the family’s Southern roots come in with the flowers. Beverly’s beautiful bouquet and the groomsmen’s boutonnieres included cotton bolls, which subtly highlighted her father’s cotton farming background. Big thanks go out to photographer Josh Moates with Kim Box Photography for sharing this wedding. Come back for Part II, because we can’t wait to share more of it with you!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met at a party in Auburn when we were 19. We had been friends for a long time but only started dating when we were 27.
Describe the proposal. We were getting ready to go watch a play with my parents. Curtis asked right as my parents pulled up to my house to pick us up.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Fresh, Southern, touching.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: My father is a cotton farmer, so I have grown up with it my whole life and asked our florist put cotton from my father’s farm in our bouquets and in the boutonnieres. I couldn’t find shoes in a color I liked, so my aunt, who is a faux finisher in Louisiana, painted my shoes. My father planted the pecan orchard we got married in the year I was born and the same jeweler that set my engagement ring also set my mother’s. It was also very touching how many incredibly nice things people did for us. I am convinced I have the best family and bridesmaids I could possibly ask for my wedding.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? We had cotton in the bouquets and were married in a pecan orchard. Guests were given fans and we had cheese grits at the reception. The majority of the logs and stumps used in decorating came off of my father’s farm, and our groomsmen wore seersucker suits.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I knew my wedding dress the minute I saw it on the hanger, even though I tried on many. It came from Denson’s in Montgomery, Alabama and was made by Allure Bridals.
