At Southern Weddings, we’re very grateful for many opportunities to work with people who run heart-centered, mission-focused businesses, but by no means is this type of business limited to the wedding industry. One of my personal favorite small businesses is One Love Organics–not only because of their products (I’ve gotten Emily hooked on them too!), but also because they’re founded and run by a sweet husband and wife team in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Suzanne was kind enough to share a bit of their story with us in V6, and we love the marriage advice she offered!
Sarah DeShaw
Chase and I have been married for 11 years. We met after graduating from law school on St. Simons Island (Chase’s hometown) and were married in 2002. We worked together for five years as attorneys. I left our practice in 2007, when our second son was born, to be a full-time mom. I very much enjoyed having time to spend with my babies, but after a couple of years, as they began preschool, I wanted to work with Chase again…but not in the law.
During my time at home, I really honed my skills as a cosmetic artisan and perfected formulas that I had been working on for about eight years. Chase encouraged me 100 percent–it takes a tremendous amount of time, labor, and money to build a start-up business, and his support never wavered. Fast forward three years, and Chase has now joined me at One Love Organics full-time, so we are again spending our days working together. I get to see the absolute best side of Chase when he is working and I love it. Smart is sexy.
The best advice that I can give is to treat your spouse like your greatest treasure, because it is true. A good spouse is the greatest treasure you will ever hope to receive. Keep this in mind during the hard times and your relationship will endure and grow.
Keep up with Suzanne
