Howdy, ladies! We have a really fun week coming up, where we’ll be unveiling the top five finalists in our second Ultimate Southern Challenge. A few weeks back we asked y’all to submit your best ideas for the most Southern and inspiring mason jar concepts, and we were once again delighted by the submissions! We’ve decided to post the top five this week, and the winner (who gets Southern Weddings bragging rights!) will be determined by reader popularity (i.e. the number of comments on their post) and the opinion of the SW editors. So let’s get cracking!

First up is the dynamic duo of Nancy Ray Photography + Erin McLean Events! Read on for all of the details behind their red velvet mason jar cake pull extravaganza!

From the ladies:

“Here is a fun little styled shoot, featuring mason jars as red velvet cake containers with whipped cream cheese icing. Also featuring the fun, traditional “cake pull,” where each ribbon baked inside has a little charm attached for whomever pulls it out. It’s a two-in-one wedding cake + wedding favor duo!”

Thanks so much, Erin + Nancy! Readers, if you love this idea, be sure to let us know in the comments! And remember, you’re welcome to give a vote of support to more than one concept.

Hey, y’all! After the rousing success that was our first “Ultimate Southern” Challenge, we are back for round two! This time, we’re looking for the most creative, most Southern (for lack of a better word) mason jar accoutrements. The sky’s the limit with this one, folks! The end result just has to have something to do with weddings, and involve a mason jar. Escort card, centerpiece, favor… that’s up to you!

Check out the rest of this mason-jar-fantastic wedding by Cyn Kain here + here!

Vendors, feel free to team up, though your submission doesn’t have to be anything elaborate — in fact, we want these ideas to be easily executable by brides everywhere! If you were an entrant, a finalist, or even a winner of our first challenge, we welcome you to submit again!

A few details:

– Your escort cards can take any form, but the most important piece is that they be SOUTHERN.

– Anyone can enter as an individual or a team — vendors, brides and grooms, and wedding or Southern enthusiasts alike. And you don’t have to be Southern to enter!

– To enter, please send 5-10 professional-quality photos at 600 pixels wide and a brief description of your escort cards to howdy at iloveswmag dot com. Subject line: Ultimate Southern Mason Jars

– Include the names and websites of all your team members, and a list of materials and links to sources used. Please include directions for any DIY projects you may have done.

All submissions must be received by 11:59pm on October 7, 2011. Submissions received after the 7th will not be eligible.

– Our favorite submissions will be posted throughout the week of October 10th, and the winner, who gets ultimate Southern bragging rights, will be announced the following week.

– Submissions cannot be posted or tweeted until published on Southern Weddings.

We can’t WAIT to see what y’all come up with! Questions? Leave them below, and we’ll do our best to answer them!
