Packing for your honeymoon does not always mean bathing suits and sundresses. Brandon and I went to France (in December!) for our honeymoon, so we were actually packing the opposite: jackets and boots! If you’re planning a honeymoon this fall to a locale filled with cool, crip air, and you’re not sure what to pack, I’ve got you covered. Think simple pieces that can easily be layered as the evenings get chillier, and mix and matched to create extra outfits, depending on the length of your vacation. Pairing a cute dress with tights and the same booties you wore with skinny jeans and a warm sweater for exploring the town will help both your suitcase and your wallet!

I like to plan ahead, but I know that it can be challenging to find adorable and affordable fall pieces during the summer. Fellow bargain shoppers rejoice, I am here to help with some really great deals from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and some of our other favorite places! This way, you can save your pennies and use that extra bit in your budget for a special dinner on your honeymoon.

Long sleeve tunic | Plaid blanket wrap | Black leggings | Leather riding boots | Fringe sweater | Striped sweater | Skinny jeans | Suede booties | Pink dress | Navy and white striped dress | Lace appliqué dress| Black flats

Travel tip: always wear your boots and heaviest sweater/coat on the plane. Not only are planes usually quite chilly, but you’ll save on luggage space! Don’t forget an expandable tote, makeup palette perfect for taking you from day to night, and heavy moisturizer to protect against extra dry air.

Travel blowdryer | Makeup palette | Peplum coat | Expandable tote | Skin Savior Balm | Hair care set | Duffel bag | Backpack

  2. avatar Kristy reply

Sooo many cute dresses, however, I am in love with the Champs Elysees dress.

The peekaboo pleating sold me the minute I saw it. Put some fun colorful shoes with the dress and this will make the perfect outfit for some pictures!

I have been a longtime admirer of Shabby Apple! It’s a toss-up for me between the Ingrid dress and the Forbidden City dress. Both very beautiful and versatile!!

  6. avatar Clara G. reply

This was tough! I found four that I love. Bonheur, New Caledonia, Oh la la, and B17 bombshell! My speicail occasion is a college graduation / engagement party for my fiance and I. We both graduate from the University of Alabama, so I think my perfect dress needs to have a little crimson/red in it! If I had to choose, I would pick the Oh La La dress. Its a little Alabama-ish and fun for a shrimp boil family get together. This dress would make me so confident when many of my family member’s meet my fiance’s family for the first time!! I hop I win!!! :)

  23. avatar Allyson reply

I have two favorites, one is The Black Oak and the other is L’Opera. I’m getting married next fall but planning on doing an engagement photo shoot this fall and The Black Oak dress with a cute pair of boots would look great with the bright fall leaves. I would love to wear L’Opera to a bridal shower or the rehearsal dinner. I think that would look great at any wedding related event.

  24. avatar Sabrina reply

I love the Bonheur. It captures the romantic carefree feeling I hope to have for my entire honeymoon in April.

  25. avatar Kate reply

    I LOVE the Champs Elysees.

  26. avatar Sarah Gilreath reply

My darling sister is getting married in June…and as the matron of honor, I will be wearing a different dress than the other bridesmaids. I need something modest, but also really stylish to go with the theme of her wedding. I have loved Shabby Apple for years and would buy every single one if I could.
    My VERY favorites though are:
Bethesda Fountain or Carnival (for her wedding, since navy is one of her colors)
or L’Artiste, which would be perfect for the outdoor rehearsal dinner…PLEASE pick me!!! : )

  27. avatar Sarah Gilreath reply

I also “liked” them on facebook.

  28. avatar Erin reply

You were NOT kidding about it being hard to choose a favorite from Shabby Apple! Mad Men is one of my fiance’s and my favorite shows and this was basically the show’s fashion, but actually available for purchase! Can you say dream come true? I think one of my favorites is Skymaster–it’s so gorgeous and looks completely Old Hollywood Glamorous, but is still practical to be worn today. I can see myself at the ariport welcoming home my will-then-be husband when he returns from Afghanistan this coming December!

  29. avatar Rachel reply

It’s the Cider for me! These dresses are so classy I love it! I would wear the cider dress to the homecoming football game at the University of Tennessee because it’s the perfect shade of orange for my alma mater!

It’s so hard to choose one! However, since I’m headed to Bora-Bora for my honeymoon, I was immediately drawn to the South Pacific collection and landed on the Sacred Falls dress. I love the neckline and as a blond/blue-eyed gal, that blue is MY color!

My figure is a few decades late … my unapologetic hour glass shape comes to life in vintage designs. The shirtwaist dress is my best friend! Needless to say, I am grateful to have discovered Shabby Apple!

I truly love many of your designs, but my heart flutters when I look at the “Carnival” and “Marseille.” I know these gorgeous blues will pop out of the frame all while accentuating my eyes … just perfect! I’d love to have one of these designs as the anchor for my shoot!

I love Shabby Apple! I’ve been actually considering the Snow Melt dress for my elopement, as I’m petite and want a dress I can wear after the ceremony. That and a cute pair of Fleuvog shoes would make me a very, very happy bride indeed. My fingers are crossed, as I’m in grad school and every bit helps.

You want me to pick just ONE!?!?! I LOVE Shabby Apple. One of the things I love best about their website is that you can shop by body type! It makes shopping so fun and easy. If I have to pick just one dress, though it would be Carousel. With so many bright colors and a fun pattern, you can pair a fabulously colored pair of shoes with this dress and just have fun with it. I’d definitely wear this to a Sunday afternoon bridal shower or pair it with a cardigan and some pumps and wear it to work!

  81. avatar Lynsey reply

Although, I’m quite to the engaged stage of life yet, I am a devout SW follower :) I loved your recommendation of Shabby Apple, as I’m always looking for new dresses that are not on every other young woman I see. My favorite dress right now is the Cider. Like I said, I have no engagement party or bridal shower in the near future, but I do have the perfect place to wear it! I’m an 8th grade English teacher. Since I teach at an underprivileged school, my children haven’t been exposed much to classy or professional style. I try to dress in a way each day that promotes self confidence and respect. I can totally picture my girls loving this dress paired with some neutral heels … or as my 14-year-old girls say my “teacher flats.”

I love the Aloha Dress. With a pair of strappy heels, and a funky bracelet, it would be great to wear to a wedding or a great dinner.

    My favorite dress is daisy.

crisp, white, simple, summery and elegant all at the same time. I would wear this dress all around New York the whole summer! and It would be AWESOME especially since I’m doing a “no pants policy” this summer once the weather gets warmer!

L.O.V.E. Black Oak from the Yosemite collection! Looks like it would be super flattering and versatile. I might add a dash of color to the outfit with some bold shoes – this dress looks like it could make a girl feel like a million bucks! On my wish list for sure.

The Cotton Candy is the ideal dress for me to wear to my rehearsal dinner! I adore the bright, young-at-heart palate interlaced with the playful, vintage-inspired design! This dress is casual, yet sophisticated, simple, yet majestically inspired, and perfect for a breezy summer evening at the shore in late June, allowing me to feel confident and beautiful as I undertake the final rites and perfect those last minute details in preparation for the most important day of my life. I couldn’t see myself wearing anything else!

I love the “Cider” dress. The color is unique, the cut, reserved. It’s a great combination. I would wear this dress on a day trip to the seaside, or a road trip somewhere fabulous. A great dress puts me in a great mood.
