There is something so magical about rehearsal dinners: the joy of family and friends reuniting, the excited anticipation of the wedding to come, and most of all, the opportunity for the bride and groom to put their months of planning to rest and just be present. While they can range from backyard barbecues to five-course country club dinners, we have a soft spot for couples who use this event to showcase something special about their wedding location. Tim and Claire were married on Kiawah Island, so they chose to celebrate the evening before their wedding with a traditional Lowcountry oyster broil. Our beloved Blue Ribbon Vendors, Landon and Jordan of Landon Jacob Photography, were on hand to capture every stunning Southern detail, and we were so excited to share it in V6!

From the bride:

The natural beauty of Mingo Point speaks for itself–it is a beautiful outdoor venue with plenty of Southern charm, overlooking the stunning river around Kiawah Island. We wanted to dress it up, just a bit, to create a warm, inviting environment for the special moments that happened during our rehearsal dinner. We loved the idea of the oyster broil–it really fit our style and personality. Oyster broils are often done here during the summers, and ours was such an experience for our friends and family who are not from the South. We wanted everyone to try something new!

Taking a moment to take a step back and see the people we love most loving one another reminded us how blessed we are, and that’s what made our rehearsal dinner so special. We loved all of the small moments that our friends shared with us and each other to create an evening we will cherish forever.

Beautiful! Well executed! I am in search of linen color used at this reception. Are you able to share where they were purchased or rented? Thank you!

I love everything about this rehearsal dinner and am going to use it as Inspo to pull from. I am absolutely in LOVE with the olive wood vases and was hoping you could tell me where they came from?? Thanks so much

[…] Featured | Southern Weddings Magazine We knew months ago that we wanted to do a modern vintage editorial shoot for Southern Weddings Magazine and we knew exactly who we wanted to work with…but we were unsure of the exact theme/vision of the shoot. After spending time researching and viewing different resources for inspiration we realized that we wanted to create, style, and photograph a beach bridal session.  Now, we know the whole beach theme is overdone and very repetitive…so we wanted to create our personal take on a beach portrait session. After pitching the idea to our vendors, they were immediately inspired and helped out throughout the planning of this shoot. When the vision, shoot, & post-production was complete, we could not wait to send it over to SW! We only waited about a day before we received an email from Emily @ Southern Weddings, saying she would love to feature the editorial shoot…our work paid off and we were instantly blissful, giddy and humbled. Thank you again, Southern Weddings!! Words to describe the shoot: simple, elegant, feminine, vintage, romance, light Photography: Chelsi Layne & J. Ian w/ J. Beautiful scenery and fresh colors and details make Katie + Charlie’s wedding stand out as sophisticated and refined among super-glamorous or super-themed beach weddings. White flowers from The Perfect Settings, a white cake topped with roses and baby’s breath by Thompson Cakes and a fantastic venue (including a porch overlooking the water!) at Limefish made me want to jump into these pictures by Clary Photo so I could party with the newlyweds. Katie + Charlie even had their first dance overlooking the sunset–can it get any better than that?

See all the photos from Katie + Charlie’s wedding in their Real Wedding Gallery!

What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Good Southern food! We served chicken New Orleans, garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Our signature drink was a mojito served with a green and white paper straw. Other details included mason jars that were used as flower vases and candle votives, country music, DIY programs and menu cards, and LOTS of raffia!
Describe your wedding cake: It was an all white, three-tiered round Italian crème cake decorated with lemon leaves and flowers. We displayed it on an antique wood table.
If you are comfortable responding, what range did your wedding budget fall into? $10,000 to $25,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? The table settings – everything was perfect and just how I imagined.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Our first dance overlooking the ocean at sunset and dancing with my dad to “My Girl.”
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are looking forward to our big move to Georgia from Chicago where I will begin my first job as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
