Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

This week, Emily brought out new bulletin boards for us to hang above our desks. At the moment, they’re still sitting in their packaging between our desks and I’m antsy to start pinning things on them! What things do y’all have pinned to your bulletin boards?

I think that among the wedding images that will make their way up there, a few may come from our features this week. Between happy engagements and beautiful venues, there’s a lot to keep in mind.

We are crazy excited for the talented vendors that we’re adding to our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory daily! Get to know more about our newest additions and some BRV perks here.

Emily spotted something beachy-keen this week! Sand dollar boutonnieres would be the perfect addition to your dapper groom’s suit if you’re getting married along the Southeast coast.

Who else has been anxiously awaiting the next installment of Emily Plans a Wedding? Y’all know Miss Emily is a paper-lover, so we were so excited to see her save the dates!

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve asked all y’all newly engaged couples to send your photos in to us. We were just happier than a pig in mud to see your huge smiling faces and pretty new rings! The biggest hugs and congratulations go out to our engaged readers! See them here and here.

Y’all. Where did January go? Amidst our time-flying shock, we looked back on the highlights of the first batch of 2012 Real Weddings in the Monthly Round-Up.

The Honey List is chock full of special honeymoon spots in the South and beyond. We’re really excited to welcome The Lodge & Spa at Callway Gardens to the Honey List, especially after hearing Marissa’s rave review!

We’re happy to introduce y’all to a few of the wonder sponsors in our family. Head over to our Sponsor Love post to learn more about Jenny Johnson, Flaire Weddings & Events and Kat Braman!

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery is Whitney + Jeff! We love their glam frosty-gray color scheme and pink peonies.

Real Weddings make our hearts sing!

Shelley + Greg’s pink and green Charleston wedding turned our Monday blues around! See it here and here.

Alli + Chad’s outdoor wedding was full of vintage finds and my favorite string lights! See it here and here.

Announcements for the weekend

The Fort Mill Bridal Show is taking place on Saturday, February 11! For more information and to buy tickets, check out the Carolina Project’s website.

We’re sending a big, virtual welcome hug to our newest Blue Ribbon Vendors! Welcome to the family, Alexa’s Photography, Kickstand Events, Scobey Photography, Fit to be Tied, Green Ribbon Parties, Haley Sheffield, Dylan Wilson, Shelby Peaden, A Southern Soiree and A Charleston Bride! Yeehaw!

Have a great weekend, my friends! What are your fun plans?

I’m not quite sure why, but every time I start writing a Monthly Round-Up post, I feel compelled to start with an ode to that month, sometimes even a haiku. Thankfully, I refrain and save you dear readers from the pain of my awful poetry and instead, just present you with the pretty pictures and sweet details that make our hearts go pitter-patter.

This time around, we have Emily, Marissa and Sierra here with their highlights from the past month’s Real Weddings.

FAVORITE WEDDING DRESS: Lacy and feminine details were on our minds this month. Emily was immediately taken with Turner’s lacy Monique Lhuillier dress. Always a fan of classic details, Marissa chose Suzanne’s sweetheart-necked and bejeweled gown. Sierra was wowed by Holly’s delicate lace gown.

FAVORITE BRIDESMAID DRESS: Holly + Chase’s wedding made an impression with Sierra. She loved Holly’s dress and the bridemaids’ ivory frocks. Marissa, on the other hand, was head over heels for Turner’s ‘maids’ ruffle-sleeved navy dresses. With a shot of pink, Shelley’s pink bridesmaids rose to the top of Emily’s highlights.

FAVORITE FEMALE ACCESSORY: The timeless cut and setting of Elise + Matt’s wedding bands was Sierra’s favorite accessory. Marissa and Emily, however, were all about bows and shoes, choosing Shelley’s pink Kate Spade pumps and Turner’s Nina heels, respectively.

FAVORITE MENSWEAR: For Emily, it was Chase’s smart grey suit and black bow tie that sealed the deal. For Marissa, it was Matt’s formal black tux. For Sierra, nothing was better than Southern men in khaki suits like Chad’s groomsmen.

FAVORITE DETAIL: We love a good ole tradition ’round these parts. That must be why Emily thought the family wedding bells at Alex + Paul’s wedding was sweet and joyous! Marissa thought Shelley’s monogrammed and flower-adorned tote bag was too adorable and Sierra was smitten with Alli + Chad’s sweet reception tables under the trees.

FAVORITE CEREMONY: We love seeing couples say their vows in places of meaning. Marissa (and all of us for that matter), marveled at the beautiful chapel Suzanne + Sean were married in. Emily was a fan of Alli + Chad’s custom made altar set-up and Sierra thought Turner + Forrest’s church ceremony was oh so sweet.

FAVORITE BOUQUET: Cotton mixed with beautiful white blooms? Of course this arrangement from Turner + Forrest’s wedding caught Sierra’s attention. Emily loved the big pink flowers that filled Shelley’s bouquet, while Marissa was taken with the “blush and bashful” bouquet that Britt carried down the aisle — lace ribbon is a bonus, no doubt.

FAVORITE SWEET: We can never go through a Monthly Round-Up without bringing some attention of our favorite sweets. Elise + Matt’s Krispy Kreme favors was a winner in Emily’s book. It was Shelley + Greg’s bow-adorned white cake that took Sierra’s heart, though, and Suzanne + Sean’s navy patterned cake for Marissa.

FAVORITE PHOTO: And now for one of my favorite categories! The image of Holly and her ‘maids snug in bed together reminded Emily of her sisters. Marissa loved the image of Turner and her attendants and family praying before the ceremony. Sierra put the cherry on top with an adorable photo from Alli + Chad’s wedding.

When I was little, my family used to go the beach every summer. We used to spend hours on the weathered dock behind the house watching the sun set, watching fish swim and enjoying the air. There’s nothing quite like spending the end of the day outside by the water, which is why I am positive that the guests at Turner + Forrest’s wedding were extra thrilled to celebrate that way with the newlyweds. Of the details, the walkway lit with potted hydrangeas, the silver platter the cake sat on and the boat full of the Gulf’s best shrimp top my list. How about you?

What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? I had cotton in my bouquet and we served Southern food like fried oysters and shrimp served in wooden boats.
Describe your wedding cake or dessert: The bride’s cake was lemon flavored and the groom’s cake, which was a surprise to him) was a chocolate cake shaped like a gator.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Living eight hours from the wedding location.
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? My wedding dress.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking down the isle and seeing Forrest. He cried.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Enjoy every minute of it!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We’re living in Florida and working for Younglife. We’re looking forward to getting settled in a normal routine.

What a gorgeous wedding! I love all of it! Any idea where the lanterns came from? We are doing a similar look for our wedding day (also blue and white) and have been searching for lanterns everywhere. I have found black and plan on spray painting them, but would love to just find a white option. Thanks!

Hi Crystal! In my experience, these lanterns aren’t easy to find at a good price point online, but they’re pretty easy to find in stores. I found a similar (white) style at Walmart last year, and I’ve also seen similar designs at Ikea and Carolina Pottery (not sure if they have CP where you live…). I’d also try Pier 1 or Cost Plus World Market. I hope that helps — best of luck!
