Southern Weddings

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: the wedding cake and the red shoes!
Where there any special family traditions you included in the wedding? We used my mom’s veil as a backdrop on the potters shed. Inside the house, my mom’s wedding dress was displayed across the dining table… it was a beautiful touch. (you can see it displayed behind us in most of the shots of us cutting the cake) We wanted to use the toasting glasses that his parents used at their wedding.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Matt says, “Seeing Anna arrive on the carriage and walking down that aisle”
Scariest moment? Watching out the window of the guest house and seeing all the people start flowing in… I think back to the butterflies that were in my stomach…It reminded me of the stage fright I would experience just before going to go on stage for a high school play.
Funniest moment? After the ceremony was over, and the wedding party was being escorted out the front door of the house (where the ceremony took place) slowly creeped opened and my uncle’s dog walked out, stopped to look at everyone, as if to say, "you are dismissed" and then turned around and walked back into the house. It almost looked rehearsed …you could hear chuckling across all the aisles.
Why do you love your husband? I love who I am when I’m around him.
The most unexpected event on our wedding day was: As Matt and I were running out to the limo, my parents surprise us with fireworks! It was absolutely amazing!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: colorful, cultural, whimsical
Did you write your own vows? We used the "Hand Ceremony" as a guideline and modified it to fit us.
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Delegate, as you’re planning be sure to include him and in the months prior spend time with together, set each other first, be confident in your commitment to each other…a single day isn’t as important as the rest of your lives!

Our Southern Wedding of the Week is so simple and warm. Just lovely! Photography by {Tim Harman}, Location: {Early Hill Plantation}, Greensboro, GA. This ultra-simple historic plantation house (owned by the bride’s parents) was just opened for event use this past Fall; Coordination and Floral Design – {Dinah Hoch and Linda Hufstler}; dress {Casablanca}, cake {Fanciful Cake}, Greensboro, GA; String quartet: {Classic City String}, Athens, GA; carriage {White Plains Motorless Coach}.  Be sure to visit Tim Harman’s {BLOG} for more from Anna + Matt.  Enjoy!

The weather was: We were blessed with breezy warm sunny day
Did you have a theme for your wedding? “Kick up your heels and bring your RED SHOES for dancing and BBQ. Reception Attire: “Ladies, Lace Up Your Red Shoes, Gentlemen, LASSO YOUR RED TIES”
What inspired the theme? I have a quirky thing with wearing red shoes. My moto is wearing red shoes is like wearing blue jeans…they go with everything!
What colors did you choose for your wedding? lime green, burnt orange, and red
Describe your wedding flowers: fun and colorful…orange calla lilies, gerbera daisies
Describe your wedding cake: strawberry shortcake in a trifle cake display
How did the two of you meet? High school sweethearts
Describe your engagement: I came home from work to a black dress lying across my bed with a note that said ‘wear this tonight’! I slipped the dress on and it surprisingly fit perfectly. Then he picked me up and took me to the Westin to eat dinner at the Sundial, which is where we celebrated our first anniversary. After we ate dinner, we walked up to the mezzanine level of the restaurant and as I was looking at the city night lights through telescopes, he called my name. When I turned around, he was down on one knee…and the rest is history!
What attracted me to my husband was: not only is he handsome, but he’s warm hearted, compassionate, caring, supportive, and he makes me laugh.
What attracted me to my wife was: Her passion and drive in anything she tries to accomplish in life.

More details from Anna + Matt coming in Part II….

Wondering where the bridemaids’ bouquets photo came from? I love it – how could you not love ranunculus, veronicas, and light green lilacs – and would love to see if I can snag a larger version to show my florist.
