Southern Weddings: An Introduction

by in Main on

Hello, hello, belles and beaus! We like to do one of these Southern Weddings grand tours about every six months, because while we loooooove those of y’all that have been around for years (literally!), we like to make the newest members feel welcome, too! Out last tour was in June 2012, so let’s get started!

First, of course, you’ve got the main blog. We post here two-four times a day on a variety of topics related to weddings and the South. There will always be gorgeous real weddings, but we also post fun features and series. Some of our favorites right now are our Southern Brides of the Month and Marissa’s Southern Delicacy posts.

New readers, be sure to check out our real weddings gallery to catch up on years’ worth of inspiring Southern weddings! You can search by color and state, too.

Don’t miss the editorial galleries, either! We’ve posted in-depth looks at almost all of our editorial features from V3 and V4. While you’re at it, why not flip through online editions of V1, V2, V3, and V4?

Engaged ladies, your new best friend is our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory. We’ve stocked it with more than 160 of our favorite vendors across the South, and we’re adding more talents every day! Vendors do pay to be listed (full disclosure!), but they also must apply to be admitted, and we review each application as a team, and follow up with their references. Only the best for our belles! The Blue Ribbon Vendors you see listed as “Editors’ Picks” have been featured in one of our print editions, so they get an extra-special stamp of SW approval.

If you’re well on your way with wedding planning, it’s time to start thinking about the honeymoon! The Honey List is our collection of SW-approved vacation spots.

Everyone loves to learn from real brides, which is why we’ve collected a few of our favorites on our Southern Bride Bloggers page! These gals all blog regularly about their upcoming (Southern) weddings, and are a great resource!

Of course, you must be sure to get acquainted with all of the Southern Weddings ladies, if we haven’t yet been formally introduced! You can see all of our profiles here, including Lara (Editor in Chief), Emily (Creative Director), Marissa (Director of Advertising and Editor), Nicole (Art Director), and Kristin (Blue Ribbon Vendor Director). We also post about goings-on in our office of ladies in a special “In the Office” category. By the way, if you’re new here, you will DEFINITELY want to check out this post — it explains a lot about how a small business like ours works!

Now that we’re better acquainted, we know you’re going to want to spend some quality time with us, am I right? Lucky for you, we’re quite social! We have one main Twitter account (@iloveswmag) and one main Instagram account (@iloveswmag) where we share recent blog posts, happenings in the office, behind-the-scenes deets on shoot days, industry discounts and sample sales, news about Southern friends and events, and much more.

All the SW ladies have their own accounts, too. So if you like business + branding, follow Lara (Twitter + Instagram), or if paper pretties and mini food are more your thing, follow Emily (Twitter + Instagram)! Nicole (Twitter + Instagram) is great about finding neat design finds and everything orange, Kristin (Twitter + Instagram) shares the cutest glimpses of newlywed life, and Marissa (Twitter + Instagram) is our source for all things preppy, pretty, and baseball-related.

Next, there’s Facebook. You may all feel free to like us here :) We share much of the same insider news and details that we do on Twitter, but it’s fun to see the conversations develop on FB. Plus, we sometimes ask fun polls on our Facebook page, and love hearing what y’all have to say!

Up next is Pinterest! You can follow Southern Weddings here. We love to pin photos from blog and print features, and it’s great for y’all, too, because we sort photos into different, fun categories. So if you’re looking for sweet tea + other drinks, biscuits + other delectables, or bow ties + boutonnieres, we’ve got you covered. We also have boards for ceremonies, fashion + style, bouquets, sweets, Southern traditions… you name it. And of course, each color has its own board, too. Get pinning!

And while you’re there, feel free to follow each individual account, too: Lara, Emily, Marissa, and Nicole.

Of course, we also love Lover.ly, a curated visual search engine just for weddings! You can find all of the SW bundles right here, and we’re adding more every day!

You can always buy all of our back issues in our shop, right here. We’ve also started to offer a few Southern prints in the shop, with plans for many more!

The General Store is chockfull of Southern goods made by others, including wedding decor, favors & gifts, and craft supplies! We’re adding more every day, so pop by and take a look!

Last but certainly not least, there’s one thing that arches over everything we do: the Sweet Tea Society. It’s our manifesto on weddings, marriage, love, and the South, and we would love for you to check it out here if you haven’t already done so! (And even if you have, it’s always good to have a refresher!) If you believe in what we believe in, you’re already a member of the Society, so feel free to grab your badge here!

And there you have it! Southern Weddings in a nutshell (make that a pecan husk, natch). Questions, just ask! And if you’re new around these parts, introduce yourself below! We LOVE to meet our readers!

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

What are everyone’s thoughts on Labor Day weekend? I’m a little torn between loving the long weekend and dreading the end of summer. The good news is that in the South, summer seems to last a lot longer.

We always love starting off our week with a Southern Delicacy. Marissa told us all about cheese straws — the ideal snack for a hostess to have on hand.

We can’t do a Summer in the South without thinking about our gents! Darren from Well Groomed popped in to give us his men’s summer essentials.

August’s Southern Bride of the Month, Rachel, told us all about the details of her wedding — just days before she says “I do!” We adore their state pride and sweet proposal.

We can’t say goodbye to National Peach Month without one last shout-out to our favorite summer fruit. Read all about peaches here.

We couldn’t resist sharing this adorable styled shoot with you. This idea for a pre-wedding waffle brunch with your sweetie doesn’t get any better!

Real Weddings put a smile on our faces

Melanie + Joe know how to celebrate — with glitter, that is. We just love how their sweet “I do’s” turned into a glamorous celebration. See it here.

Kelsey + Evan’s wedding was full of sweet Southern style staged in a lovely and modern space. See it here.

Katie + Mike’s seaside wedding turned our favorite wedding colors into a poppy and preppy soiree! See it here.

We’re sending out giant hugs to those belles and beaus who are saying “I do” this weekend, including our Southern Bride Blogger, Whitney and our Southern Bride of the Month, Rachel! Congratulations y’all!

Finally, we wanted to leave you with a beautiful wedding photo from one of our readers, Kori. We love using this space to share photos and stories from y’all, from our community. Today’s is a little different, however. Kori and her husband Matt were married in June 2012. Tragically, Matt was struck and killed by a car while riding his bicycle just a month and a half after their wedding day. All of the Southern Weddings ladies have been thinking so much about Kori and her family lately, who remind us to be grateful for everything and every day we have, and we wanted to invite you to join us in sending good thoughts and prayers her way.

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

It is just starting to warm up here in San Francisco (we have cold summers, and then warm September-October) so it’s kind of the start of summer here! If you’re feeling blue about fall, come visit me! I love my SWMag ladies! xxx

Thanks for the fun round-up! Summer in NYC is still going for now, but the weather could drop any minute, you never know. And I’m so sorry about what Kori has experienced.

  3. avatar Lauren reply

That is so tragic. Kori and her late husband Matt are definitely in my thoughts and prayers!

After another fun photo shoot on Wednesday, we’re both really excited to get V5 on stands for y’all and a little tired from resisting the urge to try on every pretty wedding dress that came in. I think we all need the weekend to recuperate from that effort :)

I think a Southern Delicacy like some Boiled Peanuts is on the menu for next week. Team meeting snack food, anyone?

Summer in the South
means really good music, right? We asked for your help rounding up the best music festivals the South has to offer.

With just a few weeks until she says, “I do,” Emily walks us through her DIY experiences and offers some practical advice for incorporating those projects into your own big day.

What do YOU love about the South
? Do y’all like deviled eggs like Emily does? We’re asking y’all for help as we prep V5 for it’s debut on news stands! Leave your answer here.

Sit a spell
with Marissa and she walks you through her (fairly unconventional and often hilarious) day as our Ad Director.

We love Real Weddings!

Liz + Brett’s New Orleans wedding left us positively smitten. A passed-down vintage veil, second line and monogrammed tambourines spell out a good time! See it here.

Ali + Austin created a joyful wedding filled with moments that will have you reaching for the tissues! See it here.

Nicole + Rob’s barn wedding was a preppy take on the rustic setting. We love their green and blue color palette and Nicole’s stunning bridal portraits! See it here.

Caitlyn + John’s barn wedding incorporates one of my favorite colors and boasts an elegant reception setup. See it here.

Before you go, take a look a Kelly + Drew’s darling wedding! Y’all might remember Kelly as June’s Southern Bride of the Month with a killer pink and green inspiration board. Weren’t you dying to see how it all turned out? See more from their big “I do’s” on Kristine Neeley’s blog!

Have a fun weekend, friends!
