This month we are focusing on giving back.  There are 12 fabulous giveaways waiting in the wings (the number grows every day!) and along with these giveaways we will be introducing you to some amazing charities.  I know everyone is busy, but we want to encourage you to spend some time learning about these important causes.  We spend hours pouring through inspiring wedding details, so why not take a small bit of that time to give back?  {The Hostess with the Mostess} just posted a great entry about our first charity, {Let’s Eat Cake}, that benefit’s St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Melissa from {Masterpiece Weddings} has created this phenomenal event that you MUST read about.  We are one of the many sponsors for the event, but the real kudos go to Melissa.  What an inspiring event you have created!   Which causes are important to you?  Leave a comment and we will be sure to post them this month.

We are thrilled to welcome Wanwisa Posner to SW for her new weekly feature, Wanwisa Wednesdays.  More to come on the fabulous Mrs. Posner, but for now…  this image speaks a thousand words about her incredible taste and style.  Wanwisa on her wedding day in the kitchen with the Thomas Keller.

Always the planner and go-to girl, it took planning my own wedding, a feature on Style Me Pretty, some encouragement from doting wedding guests and a helpful hand from some amazing planning mavens at Bliss Event Group for me to finally realize my dream – by becoming the girl behind the soon-to-be-launched Bliss Event Group New York.

As if that weren’t enough, like sweet icing on a seven tier cake, I am thrilled to guest blog for SW and share some of my inspirations, fabulous finds, DIY ideas and just about anything to help blushing brides and fabulous hostesses plan their perfect celebrations. (Wanwisa also has her own amazing blog, Modern Vintage)

I love juxtaposing styles like modern and vintage (my personal favorite), traditional and casual, elegant and shabby chic, just to name a few. I think the best celebrations really highlight the passions and styles of the people being celebrated.  There’s nothing more thrilling than bringing in touches to an event that honor that. And no, nothing is too quirky – take it from the girl who served a nine-course reception luncheon, nixed the dance floor and honeymooned in Bhutan!

I hope my postings will inspire and bring a little Bliss NY to your dazzling Southern affairs!

My dear friend Michelle has just gotten engaged to her long time boyfriend Justin. The two were both raised in Mississippi but have long called New York City their home. They plan on throwing a wedding in Texas, where Michelle’s parents now reside and where all their friends and family can gather to celebrate their union.

One of Michelle’s favorite accessories is a Cameo necklace so I thought it would be appropriate to combine her beloved piece of jewelry with both her and Justin’s traditional style, by using the “cameo” as the wedding’s main motif.
Michelle, being the savvy bride, did some research on flowers that are in-season for her August 09 wedding and fell in love with pretty blue hydrangeas and lovely bells of Ireland. Powdery and deep blues with bright greens look beautiful together and exude a calming effect perfect for a balmy late summer celebration.

My first inspiration board for Michelle and Justin’s big day is a combination of traditional Southern flair and big city polish. As a play on cameo jewelry, silhouette necklaces in matte silver make an excellent gift for the bridal party (cameo pendants by Rosie Buck) For fun entertainment, hire a silhouette cut artist like Karl Johnson who will cut fabulous silhouettes in your guests likeness.   Have a look at his recent feature in Martha Stewart Weddings. The idea of merging traditional style with fresh modern flair is again mimicked by a Wedgwood inspired cake (via Martha Stewart). The bridal fashion is big city with clean lines and refined details.

The lucky couple: Michelle and Justin.

More to come next Wednesday.  Have a beautiful week!  ~ Wanwisa

Oh, how I love cameos. It borders on obsession, really. I photographed a wedding in Italy last year, and all the jewelers on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence had huge selections of gorgeous cameo jewelry. I think I went a little bit nuts.. I came back with rings, earrings, and necklaces in cameos of every color. I cherish them, though, they are so classic and feminine! Wouldn’t it be a great wedding favor to have a silhouette booth, where a professional artist (or even the guests themselves) could make their own silhouettes?Let your friend Michelle know that if she is in need of a Texas wedding photographer, I would be happy to help her out!

The winner of the {Hello!Lucky Contest} is #7!  Email Rachel [rachel at swsmag dot com] your contact info and we will put you in touch with the phenomenal team at {Hello!Lucky} for your 100 letterpress invitations. Congratulations!

My dream southern wedding involves family, friends and lots of kids. Sweet tea is a necessity and BBQ is required at some point during the wedding weekend. Fall is the perfect time for a southern wedding because it’s warm enough that all of your northern friends are jealous but your hair should stay under 3 feet across because the humidity has improved since August. You need at least one aunt or grandmother to be scandalized because you’re serving beer and wine. Someone at some point needs to tell the bride that she’s “as pretty as a picture”. A dream southern wedding needs at least one mother asking the newlyweds when they’re going to finally give her some grandchildren. After choosing the date that conflicts least with most of your guests favored football team, you still hear plenty of discussion that this year could be the year if only the coach was replaced. A southern wedding wouldn’t be complete without someone telling the groom they remember when he was knee high to a grasshopper. A dream southern wedding means wearing your Mom’s pearls and wrapping your MaMaw’s handkerchief wrapped around your bouquet. Most importantly, a dream southern wedding needs lots of love, tears, laughter and joy.

And that’s not all…  After seeing the incredible response to our vote this week (over 400 unique votes!), the {Hello!Lucky} folks have a special prize for ALL of the finalists!  How amazing is that!?  Email Rachel your contact info too [rachel at swsmag dot com] and we will get your prizes to you.  A million thanks to {Hello!Lucky}!  What a fun contest~
