Happy New Year’s Eve, ladies + gents! I also wanted to take a minute to share my personal highlights from the world of weddings with you.

My first highlight would have to be the Asheville hot air balloon story we shot last May. It was the first shoot I organized pretty much solo (though with LOTS of design help from Joy Thigpen), and everything just came together perfectly — the weather, the balloons, the photography, the models, the crew. It was a magical morning, exactly the kind of magazine experience you (or at least I!) dream about. This despite the 3:30am wakeup call – you know it must have been a good day! Take a peek at the finished product in V3 and the editorial gallery.

My second highlight would have to be my sister’s wedding. Again, magical doesn’t really begin to cut it. Time with my family has become increasingly precious as I’ve gotten older, and we were so lucky to be able to spend 10 full days with each other getting ready for the wedding in our favorite place in the world. I wrote five posts on the SW blog about Kate and Cormac’s big day — check them out here, here, here, here, and here.

In the same vein, my third highlight is Katharine and Kyle’s wedding. She’s not one for over-the-top verbiage, but I think even she would admit it was — yes, again — magical. The vows, getting to be her bridesmaid, the speeches at the reception, dancing and singing in a big circle at the end of the night — I loved it all and felt so lucky to be a part of it.

Lastly, my fourth highlight is attending Engage10 :: The Breakers. Not only did I get to vacation in Palm Beach for a few days (for work!), I had a chance to take a break and be inspired by everything from the food presentation to the amazing speakers and attendees. Some of the favorites I met or reconnected with? Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce, Shira Savada from Martha Stewart Weddings, Randy Fenoli (of course!), Tara Guerard, Annie Lee of Daughter of Design, Siri Eklund of Two Bright Lights, Carol Poon of The Bride and Bloom, photographer Gayle Brooker, Michelle Rago, and Abby Larson of Style Me Pretty. You can check out the posts I wrote about Engage here, here, and here.

What were your 2010 highlights?

Well, my dearies, I don’t know about you, but I’m still basking in the glow of Christmas even as New Year’s Eve sneaks around the corner! To celebrate this lovely in-between time, we have a glamorous yet sweet fashion shoot to share. Shannon Nicole Smith sent in the sparkly submission and was both the photographer and stylist for the day. Solutions Bridal provided the gowns (and the larger bow!), In Bloom Florists the bouquets, and Le Chic Studio the insanely (sorry, I can’t help it!) chic hairpieces and veils. Props also go to Sarah Hearts for the torn fabric backdrop spotted in a few photos. Enjoy, and happy almost New Year’s!

Those beautiful blushes? All courtesy of Make Me Up Labs. I love how fresh and sweet these ladies look!

Anyone else IN LOVE with the sparkly bolero or petite bow veil?! I DIE!

For any ladies who might be interested, I have a few more details on the dresses…

Dress No. 1: Mimi by Watters (silk taffeta full a-line with pleating at the natural waist and chapel train)
Dress No. 2: Tabernas by Watters (fitted dropped waist mermaid with a gathered skirt created with silk organza)
Dress No. 3: By Marisa (Silk satin rouged bodice with a multiple layered organza skirt)
Dress No. 4: Torrean by Watters (silk satin bodice with textured neckline and skirt created with hand cut flowers with swarovski center)

…and bouquet: white mini calla lilies, spray roses, porcelina, and yellow stock (tied with satin ribbon).

Check back tomorrow for personal reflections on 2010 from Katharine, Lara, and myself!

WHERE can we find that gorgeous gold sequin bolero??

    • avatar Emily reply

Hi Miss Amy! I freaked out over the gold sequin bolero, too :) It was a piece from Le Chic Studio (www.lechicstudio.bigcartel.com), and though I don’t see it on their website right now, I’m sure if you sent them an email they could probably make a custom piece for you. Best of luck!

Hi, again! I just got word from Shannon, the photographer, that the gold bolero was NOT made by Le Chic Studio but a thrifted, vintage item. Shannon suggested checking eBay and other internet sources to find your own!

Orchard Love Shoot

by in Inspirations, Main on

Who’s ready for a dreamy post-wedding love shoot this fine Wednesday? If you just said “I am, I am!” then you’re in luck! Emily of Gem Photo sent this little lovely our way, complete with florals by the White Oak Flower Shoppe. Mia posed in her Anne Barge dress at the Gizdich Ranch. (VERY fun fact: Anne Barge made Mia’s mom’s wedding dress! The two were sorority sisters in college, and it was the first one she ever made!) Rumor has it Mia was so excited to be featured she wrote up a little paragraph to tell us more about the magical day. Check below for the details!

From Mia:

“My husband and I are from Atlanta, and we met at the University of Georgia. We were married in the June of 2009 on the beach in Ponte Vedra, FL. We were so blessed to have a beautiful ceremony with our amazing friends and family. However, our wedding photographer became seriously ill just before the wedding, and we weren’t able to get a lot of the pictures we had hoped for. We moved out to Palo Alto, CA in September 2009 and became friends with wonderful Emily. When she heard about our wedding photos, Emily insisted she give us a true Southern wedding re-creation. I was so excited to get to wear my gorgeous Anne Barge dress again, and we headed to an apple orchard in the Bay area for an incredible afternoon of pictures. We felt like we had gotten married all over again – our day in the orchard is another special day we will never forget!”
