Monthly Archives: August 2012

Emily + Morgan met at the Savannah College of Art and Design, so their expectations for photography were high and their approach to style was thoughtful but natural. Their wedding at Old Fort Jackson allowed them to create a relaxed atmosphere while still maintaining that special celebratory feel. For E + M, the fact that they were able to spend time with their family and friends put a permanent smile on their faces. Big thanks to Juliet Elizabeth for sharing!

Oh dear, get your hankies ready. This shot below makes my heart sing! I can just imaging the chills Emily’s family must have felt seeing her in her dress on the big day!

The music was a huge part of our wedding, and an aspect that I remember the most clearly. We have some of the most talented friends and family we could ever hope to have, and it was reflected on our day! The ceremony and some reception music was done by Gin House, an Atlanta-based band whose lead musician is good friends with Morgan. Then later at the reception, my cousin and her boyfriend played dueling pianos. By this time, everyone was on their feet singing and dancing!

That gorgeous blue sky could not have made for a more beautiful wedding backdrop. Juliet Elizabeth’s bridal portraits are marvelous!

With Morgan and much of our wedding party being trained photographers, we knew from the beginning that we would need to be pretty picky about who we chose. Juliet left us with wonderful photos of some unforgettable memories and allowed our whole wedding party to relax and enjoy the day with us.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Throughout the whole planning process, Morgan was living in Jacksonville, Florida, and I was in my final years of college in Savannah. Then, three weeks before the wedding, I graduated and we moved to Philadelphia. The wedding would not have been near as amazing as it was without the expertise of our wedding planner. She kept us focused on the things that needed to be done, and took care of the rest, especially when we turned into an absentee bride and groom toward the end. Thanks, Liz!

In what month did you get married? June
How many guests attended your wedding? About 100
Did you decide to do a “first look”? We opted to not do a first look, and instead stuck with tradition.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? The venue was Old Fort Jackson, an old brick fortress in Savannah, Georgia right on the river. Right after the ceremony, we got to fire the cannon! We also had plenty of sweet tea on hand, at Morgan’s request!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Looking back, the day went by so quickly that my fondest memory is actually our send-off at the end of the reception. After so much singing and dancing and celebrating with our loved ones, it was the first time we had gotten to sit down and talk and laugh with just each other as husband and wife. I will always remember those moments.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Don’t stress too much! Surround yourself with the people you love and hire a wedding planner whose taste and style is very similar to your own!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Right now we’re enjoying settling into our life together, though we are thinking about adding a dog to our family :)

Sweet Tea Society Sundays No. 2

by in Main on

Hello, belles + beaus! This is the second installment of a new feature that will run on most Sundays. We’re choosing images that show what the Sweet Tea Society is all about – getting back to the root of weddings, remembering why they happen, and celebrating the emotion and love that drives them. Enjoy!

From Emily, the bride:

I had so many emotions running through my head that day! I am the oldest of three girls, and the second in my family to get married (my sister was married the year before in Florida). I always dreamed of having a church wedding, and my father was on board with everything from the beginning. This picture of the two of us was taken just before the ceremony was about to begin, on the steps of the church. I was so nervous, with butterflies and all, but my father told me “not to worry about anything, because in the end, you will be married to the man of your dreams.” In the end, he was right — I married my true love, and everything was perfect.

P.S. Isn’t Emily’s dress gorgeous? Since I know y’all will ask, it’s by Priscilla of Boston, from her Vineyard Collection, and was purchased at the Atlanta store before it went out of business (sniff sniff).

Where can I find that ‘bless your heart’ t-shirt in #1???!

    • avatar Marissa reply

Hi Kelly! Isn’t that shirt amazing – it’s my favorite. I purchased it at a small boutique in Franklin, TN last summer. It doesn’t have a brand as it was a fundraiser with all the proceeds went to the tornado victims. Wish I could be more help!
