Google+ Real Virginia Wedding: Sara + Bill, Part II - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

What a sweet, happy couple! I still can’t get over how lovely Sara’s bouquet (courtesy of Holly Chapple) is. Perfect for a fall wedding, don’t you think? The newlyweds celebrated their marriage with a chic reception at Virginia’s historic Whitehall Manor. Like the bridesmaids’ bright, flowy frocks, I love that S + B went with a cheery fall color to accent their elegant ballroom. Want more? Head on over to photographer Kristen Gardner’s blog post from the big day!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I went shopping for my dress in February during the crazy snow storm. It was fine, because we went shopping in Boston, but unfortunately my oldest sister could not get a flight out to Massachusetts from anywhere in Virginia. My mom and middle sister were still able to come up, though, so we carried on. We only went to one store, and as luck would have it, it was the first dress I tried on.
Describe your wedding flowers: I am not much of a flower person, so it was really hard for me to have a vision of what I wanted. Luckily, we were able to work with an incredibly talented florist, who had also designed the flowers for both of my sisters’ weddings. Holly created exactly what we were looking for, without us ever really being able to express it to her. She included succulents, beautiful cabbage roses, wheat, seeded eucalyptus and lambs ear in the arrangements. Bill is a hunter, so she even added a few pheasant and ostrich feathers to my bouquet and his boutonniere for a personal touch.
Describe your wedding cake: Cake is not our favorite dessert in the world, but we do love pies. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, we would serve miniature pies in four different flavors: pumpkin, lemon chess, apple and chocolate pecan. It was hard to get the traditionalists in our family on board, but once they saw the pies, I think they quickly changed their minds!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Recapping with each other at the end of the day. We hadn’t been alone together since the beginning of the week, so it was awesome to catch up with each other and go over the day. We ordered late night room service and talked non-stop. It finally felt like we were married!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are looking forward to just spending time together. Wedding planning is fun but definitely takes up a lot of time, so it is nice to have that back. We also are busy planning our honeymoon to Italy this February!
