Google+ Real Georgia Wedding: Nicole + Jason, Part I - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

In case you couldn’t tell from our picture selection, we really like Nicole’s “dreamsicle-inspired” bouquet from Garden on the Square.  Gorgeous, and totally unique.  Nicole + Jason were married at the southern end of Tybee Island in Georgia.  Nicole wore an embellished Demetrios gown and handmade birdcage veil decorated with her grandmother’s brooch.  Amy Sell from Amore Events planned the Savannah wedding.  Reception photos from Green Door Photography coming soon!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  Every Thursday night in the summer, there is a concert down by the riverfront in Oshkosh.  That night happened to be the last concert of the season and Smash Mouth was playing.  I was hanging out with a girlfriend when a group of friends came over to us and introduced us to Jason.  Jason and I chatted for a while, and then lost each other in the crowd.  Fate intervened and we later met up at the local bar, where we talked for the rest of the night and found we had a lot of things in common.  He asked for my number, called a couple days later, and we have been inseparable ever since.
Describe the proposal.
It was Halloween and we were preparing to go out.  I went to go pick Jason up for the evening and walked into his house to see that he decorated the house with handmade goodies for me.  He carved a few pumpkins with funny faces, had candles lit and had painted “Happy Halloween Boo!” with hearts on the wall.  There was also a beautiful bouquet of fall flowers, chocolate cake and wine on the coffee table.  I was shocked and felt so loved.  He said he just wanted to make this night fun and special for us.  We sat down to eat the cake and then he went into the kitchen and brought out another pumpkin.  He told me he had made this one especially for me.  He had etched “I (heart) you” on it.  I stood up to go and look at it, excited to see that he had worked so hard on etching the message, then he got down on his knee, turned the pumpkin around, and revealed that he etched “Will you marry me?” on the other side.  He asked me to marry him and opened the pumpkin top and pulled out the ring box.  Of course I said “YES!”  We proceeded to quietly celebrate and savor the moment, made a couple phone calls to our parents, and then went out for Halloween dressed up as Hawaiian tourists and had a blast with our friends.
Three adjectives that describe the day are:
Intimate, perfect and dreamy.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
Our personal touches.  My brother-in-law got ordained on the internet and officiated our ceremony; he used my late father’s Bible, which was my father’s most precious belonging, during the ceremony.  Since Jason is in the aviation business, he made paper airplanes and our guests threw them at us as we exited the reception.
What was Southern about your wedding?
It was the first time a lot of our guests had visited the South, so we treated them to the best southern hospitality and food.  When guests arrived to Savannah they received gift bags with homemade pralines and other goodies, along with a list of the best things to do and see in Savannah.  We had a local well-known pianist, Eddie Wilson, serenade our ceremony and play “Midnight Train to Georgia” right after we were pronounced husband and wife.  For the reception, we offered southern comfort foods such as fried Mac n’ cheese balls, pigs-in-a-blanket and meatloaf.

Oh my goodness, if I had a wedding photo as good as the last one in your post, I would put it on the wall in the largest canvas available and never take it down. It would become an heirloom for my great, great grandchildren. That is UH-Mazing!
