Google+ Details: Dominique + Taylor, Part I - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

We feature our share of classic, beachy and backyard weddings on the blog, but I’m kind of loving this Western-inspired shindig from Joshua Caine in Parkfield, California.  The bride’s ruffly frock from Timeless Vixen is one part vintage, another part flirty and all-around delicious.  Love, love, love the rustic feel of the bride’s ensemble (thanks to that kick-butt awesome pair of distressed cowboy boots) as well as the subtly glamorous touches, courtesy of Dominique’s birdcage veil and red nail polish.  What do you think of the bride’s hand-wrapped bouquet from Lori Boe?  I’ve recently become obsessed with heirloom brooch accents and may even want to incorporate this into my own wedding.  Any other great tips for designing one-of-a-kind bouquets you’d be willing to share?

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  Taylor and I met at a mutual friend’s wedding. Taylor had to leave early, but he interrupted my conversation with another guy to ask for my number before he left. I knew he was classy :)
Describe the proposal. One lazy Sunday, Taylor and I were enjoying hours of lounging when he got a phone call from his brother asking if we would like to go on a private plane ride with a family friend the following day. I was told that this family friend (Dave) needed to take it up in order to keep it maintainanced. Pilot Dave had called to offer the free flight to Taylor’s brother and his wife, but they weren’t able to make it. After hours of begging, I agreed to the spontaneous flight, banking on the fact that I would have to “work late” and miss the near death experience. (Little did I know, Taylor had already coordinated with my work to ensure that this excuse was not an option.) I began rehearsing new excuses to get out of flying, but the childlike excitement of my boyfriend about to enjoy an adventure in the sky made it impossible to say no. Pilot Dave suggested we fly over the new piece of land Taylor had recently purchased. As we flew over this little patch of land, my eyes narrowed on what appeared to be letters: “Marry me, Dom Dom”.  As I read the words, my heart began to race again. Only this time, it wasn’t my fear of flying. In my plane headset I heard Pilot Dave ask what my answer was. Somehow through the screeching, “I managed to squeak out a ‘”yes”.  We toasted with champagne and enjoyed the rest of our flight. And just like that, we were engaged!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Whimsical, quirky and fun!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: All the little details! The ‘52 Chevy used as a guest book… the cigarette tree… all of the unique trinkets collected for centerpieces… the unique setting of Parkfield… our HUGE toasting glasses… the Photobooth… karaoke… the list goes on. It would be impossible for us to pick just one detail because all of the time and thought we put in to every detail is what made our day so special and unique.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: Finding my wedding dress really wasn’t a huge ordeal. I knew that I wanted a dress from the 50’s so I looked a lot on e-bay and random different vintage sites that I discovered. I ended up finding a website called Timeless Vixen. They don’t specialize in wedding dresses, but they have some beautiful vintage items. I immediately fell in love with a dress that fit the picture I had in my mind. I ordered the dress and that’s the one I wore.

Monday, March 1st is the deadline to enter the Brion Hopkins giveaway for a chance to win a spectacular wedding photography package and a spot on the Southern Weddings Blogsite!
