What makes me happiest? Coming home from a long, long day and being dead tired…and then being surprised by the wonderful smells of my fiance making dinner (usually homemade lasagna)!!! I’m instantly reminded of dozens of reasons why I love this man and want to spend the rest of my life with him. Yep, I’m a lucky girl!

  10. avatar Tamara Kenyon reply

Newlywed here. My favorite thing is getting home after a very long day, jumping into my softest jammies and snuggling up with dinner and a movie. The simple things in life are what matter.

  11. avatar Southern Weddings reply

OK, my entry doesn’t count, but I couldn’t pass up a chance to share what makes me happiest:God’s grace, my family and amazing friends, the kindness of strangers, the love and support of the brilliant women I have the honor of working with, skiing, leaping over things, laughing with people I love and with perfect strangers, the silence that comes with the first snowfall, hearing my grandma’s voice, children, babies (I know you’ll love that one Katharine!!), fall leaves, digging my toes in the sand, adventure, and Pinkberry. : ) Lara –and I have to add one… dance parties with the Mammoth Men. Legendary.

My heart truly smiles each night when I lay in bed and hear the sweet sound of the LOVE of my life’s voice on the other end of the phone saying, "Sweet dreams baby, I’ll meet you there!" He is the man of my dreams and I cannot wait for the day that we can lie next to each other and have that goodnight kiss. HE makes me happy.

So I have spent the past 3 years living in Chile, where I met my wonderful husband to be. Recently we just moved to Brazil so that he could study his masters. (Which is another 2 years abroad) Afterwards we plan on moving to the states so that I can be closer to the family and he can experience my culture. I am missing the Southland like crazy and this website really helps me to feel connected. The wedding will take place only 2 months after our arrival state side. You can imagine coming from other sides of the world there are so many different things that we have had to learn about each other. It is really a lot of fun comparing childhoods and style of jokes etc. This Christmas he is coming home with me for the first time to meet my brother and sisters as well as all of my friends and extended family (parents have already met him and approved whole heartedly). He is a bit nervous about the trip and has decided to learn everything he can about my family’s Christmas traditions. The best things excite him…he has asked that no one give him flip flops or other summer related articles….only scarves and mittens. He practices his English everyday, looks at the IHOP menu online and studies friends’ pictures on facebook to make sure he knows who’s who. And best of all he is learning the words to ever hokey Christmas song ever made. The other night I heard him in the shower singing "Oh you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I’m telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to town." How can a girl not feel completely overwhelmed with happiness to hear that?

  22. avatar kailie reply

I smile when I see him, my fiance – an occurrence usually once a month. But it’s enough, when you know – you know.

  23. avatar SylviaO reply

Reading about complete strangers weddings makes me happy, because it’s showing global love! These people who I will no doubt never meet, inspire me in different ways and are unknowingly contributing to what I hope will be my own amazing and inspiring wedding – I love SW for bringing these beautiful weddings to those of us who just love LOVE itself!

  24. avatar Brighid K. reply

My fiance and our little girl Maddie, bring endless smiles to my life.So many to choose from but here’s one of my favorites:I am usually the first to wake, but every once and a while they let me sleep in late …only to wake me up with a fabulous homemade latte : ) Maddie carries it in with careful hands and proudly asks me what I see in the design (as she is the one who always pours the milk into the shots) and all three of us come up with silly answers. Then of course I drink it up! This never fails to make my morning and cast a huge smile across my face! : )

  25. avatar Brit reply

The latest issue of Southern Weddings! We don’t have a great regional magazine in town, so I LOVE the inspiration and great information SW contains. And, it is all so relatable!

  27. avatar Carmen T. reply

I have the most adorable niece in the world! Honestly, she is. She’s only 17 months old, but she’s one of my best friends. Several times during the week, I will get a phone call at 7:00 AM (waking me up) and hear her on the other end of the phone laughing or breathing. She hasn’t exactly mastered the art of conversation, but it totally these moments totally light up my world.

  28. avatar Ashley reply

Weddings! Who knows when I will have my own, so seeing true love through brilliant photography always makes me happy. Also: my faith and my family and friends will always be the things that keep me grounded and happy.

  29. avatar Ashley Perren reply

What makes me happiest is having an amazing fiance, a wonderful family and friends, and my sweet dog. Life is good and I try to enjoy it to the fullest! Oh and being an hour from the beach helps too :)

  30. avatar Amber reply

My finace’ makes me smile and not in the mushy lovey dovey way (well I guess that stuff makes me smile also). We have a dog which he tries his best to treat like a dog but everynight I catch him talking to her in baby talk and telling her how much he loves her. So sweet!

  31. avatar Ariana reply

That little moment every morning when hear my three year old daughter wake up and I turn around and she’s stumbling towards me.. all fluffy headed and puffy faced, with her arms out ready for me to swoop her up. She doesn’t say a word, she’s all grins. I pick her up, she curls into me, and we just stand there in the kitchen swaying back and forth. Thats our time. And that’s the time that makes me smile most.

What makes me the happiest is also what makes me the saddest at least for the next six month. My fiance is in Qatar deployed with the Air Force. So, what makes me the happiest is that he is at least in a safer place than he could be and that occasionally I get to video chat with him. Although I hate him being over there at all. :(

  33. avatar Megan reply

My fiancee makes me smile all the time but especially when he does little things that I never expect. We live 4 hours apart and sometimes have to go several weeks without seeing each other. He knows how hard this is on me and a few weeks ago, I got a care package with just a few of my favorite things…chocolate, a wedding magazine, and best of all, his pillow case (which I had wanted for a while but always forgot to get) so I can fall asleep to his smell every night, as if I was lying right next him. And just yesterday I got a knock on the door and when I opened it, a delivery man was standing there with the most beautiful autumn bouquet of flowers…just because. All the things he does brings a smile to face everyday but it’s the little surprises that lets me know he is thinking of me and cares that make me the happiest :)

My dog Pete, and my husband Ryan. Specifically the two of them together, because I’m pretty sure Pete is the Canine embodiment of my husband. The other day I caught Ryan talking to the dog, "Pete, you’re my best friend." I guess I’m just chopped liver, but it still made me smile :)

Southern Weddings daily blog, of course. I love all the unique ideas I read about daily. It is fun to see how everyone incorporates their personalities into all the details of their wedding. I look forward to pulling up the daily blog at work everyday. It puts a smile on my face when the work day gets hectic and the wedding planning seems overwhelming!

  36. avatar Stephanie reply

Super silly, but my Vance has this itty bitty dent on the side of his nose. Only someone who constantly is starring at his face would only notice…that would be me! For whatever reason, his little nose dimple brings the biggest smile to my face! The fact that its attached to his face, doesn’t hurt either. :) I guess it’s the small things in life!!!

  38. avatar Jessica reply

Call me crazy, but I love to hear my husband snore! What started out as an annoyance, has turned into a constant reminder of his love and commitment to me. Sometimes when his snoring wakes me, I roll over and watch him sleep. I lay smiling, realizing how blessed I am.

I have so many things that make me smile. I think I am one of the luckiest girls inthe world to have a job that makes me smile, friends that make me laugh and a family I couldn’t love more. One small thing that always brings a smile to my face is getting a card in the mail from a friend for no reason. Two of my sorority sisters still send "happy football season" or "happy halloween" cards and they totally make my day!

What makes me smile? I wake up really early to go to work and my fiance works late into the night. He likes to leave me notes on my lunch the next day for work or on the inside of the front door for me to see on my way out. They are cute and silly with little stick figures of us (including his goatee and muscles…I wish I could scan one of them to show you, LOL) and messages such as "Noodles ala Kevin for my Pookie, Have a Great Day!! Love you Madly"I have them posted at my desk so when someone on the other end of a nasty phone call makes me upset, I just look up and remember how much he loves me and I smile :-D

Weddings are now as different and personalized as brides are today. They no longer have to take place in a church and the reception hall near it but usually they take place at a location that has special meaning to the groom or the bride. These personalized weddings are a great way for the couple to express themselves and to enjoy their special day.

What makes me the happiest in life is watching my husband tickle our four-year old daugher and listening to her belly laugh so hard that she can barely get out the words, "daddy stop." But then as soon as he stops she looks at him with the biggest grin on her face and says "do it again daddy." Those moments will always bring joy to my heart.
