Google+ Southern Wedding of the Week: Catherine + David, part I - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

{Lauren Harris Photography} stunned us with this beautiful celebrity wedding (David is a recording artist) that took place at {Historic Carnton Plantation}. Catherine + David’s big day went on without a hitch thanks to {One Fine Day} event planning. The bride wore a beautiful dress from {Paloma Blanca}.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. I traveled from Memphis to Nashville and was visiting some girlfriends of mine while also looking for a place to live. This trip had been planned to take place in March, but it had to be rescheduled for a weekend in April due to a very heavy snowfall that hit Memphis and Nashville in March! Thanks to that snowfall, though, because I would have not met my husband David! Some of my girlfriends and I went out on the town in Nashville to a well known live music joint called the Tin Roof. Well, you probably guessed it…..our “girl’s night” suddenly turned co-ed. Late into the night, I was ready to leave but someone stopped me before I could. That someone was David! We began talking and our personalities hit it off automatically. I was instantly attracted to his humor and everything fell into place after that. I found myself in Nashville one month later and engaged to him on October 25th.
Describe the proposal: David is definitely not one to plan things, so his proposal was like a surprise for the both of us. I had to come back to Memphis in late October to coordinate a friend’s wedding. At the last minute, David decided to jump in the car with me and keep me company for the ride. I assured him that it would not be a very exciting weekend and I wouldn’t have much time with him because I would be busy with a wedding. He said that was fine with him and he would just hang out with my folks. My parents adore David, so I knew he would be okay in their hands. It was late before I returned home on Saturday night October 25th. I was tired and ready to put on pj’s, but David insisted that I take a walk with him around the park in my parent’s neighborhood. I kept complaining, though, because it was a chilly night. So, he threw an ugly purple ski jacket on me that looked like it was straight up out ofthe 80s and we went for a romantic walk. We walked for a while and then took a break next to a park bench while he stood there hugging me. He began telling me how much I meant to him and how he knew he could not live on more day without me. Next thing I know, he’s down on one knee asking me to spend the rest of my life with him! I screamed saying, “No!” But what I meant was that there was no way he had a ring and could have kept it a secret. What I soon found out was that he had just bought it four hours ago after he received my mother and father’s blessing to have me as his wife. After giving a very loud and reassuring “Yes”, we ran into my parent’s house to share the news. It was the most memorable night of my life. Although it was unplanned, you can’t beat the feelings of genuine raw emotions.
What attracted me to my husband was: His humor!! Spend five minutes with him (or read his MySpace blogs) and you will see why. Not to mention he is easy on the eyes!
Why do you love your husband? He is my BEST friend. I laugh my hardest when I am with him. But it’s not just the humor I love about him, it’s everything in between. David is a very dynamic individual and he is not afraid to share his feelings. We have a completely open and honest relationship. He gives me the best feelings in the world and he has quickly become my world. I love him very much. :
A date we went on that we’ll always remember: Our first date was to eat at Leonard’s BBQ in Memphis. We both love BBQ and that’s why we served it as the main dish at our wedding reception.
The weather on our wedding day was: Breathtaking!
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? We wanted our wedding to be two things, laid back and personal. Nothing says laid back like a beautiful outside Southern wedding at a historic plantation.I have always enjoyed Civil War history and as a child my parents took me to tour houses in Holly Springs, MS., Natchez, MS., and other such places. When David and I found Carnton Plantation, we immediately fell in love with its character. There was so muchcharm to it. I felt like a true Southern Belle on my wedding day!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: My maid of honor and I went looking one week after I was engaged. We went to a bridal boutique in Nashville and tried onONE dress….that was it!!
Describe your wedding flowers: My favorite flower is a hydrangea. So, my bouquet was made up of white hydrangeas and white roses. They were beautiful and matched the hydrangeas that lined the garden on the grounds of Carnton Plantation.

More to come from Catherine + David shortly….
