Google+ Real Wedding: Kimberly + Josh - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

From a Parisian proposal (so dreamy!) to their fabulous Florida fete, Kimberly + Josh’s fresh green and blue Florida wedding is full of fun colorful touches.  Many thanks to event planner, Shannon Wilson, of {Table 6 Productions} for sending us these great details.  Decor by {ConceptBAIT}.  Photography by {Phillip Lloyd Photography}. Check out more of Kimberly + Josh’s wedding on the Table 6 Productions {BLOG} and Phillip’s {BLOG}From Shannon: This gorgeous couple met while attending the university of Florida in Gainesville, FL.  After a long road of education, while Kim completed her masters and josh wrapped up his ph.d, they said “I do” on the waterfront lawn of the fabulous Davis Islands Garden Club.  Known for their colorful blooms and lush landscapes, Davis Islands Garden Club was the perfect setting for Kim and josh.  Inspired by aqua and apple greens, they brought everything to life with this fresh palette and with an ever-so “Florida” flair!”

The weather was: The weather could not have been more perfect it was warm and sunny with a cool breeze from the water and an absolutely gorgeous day!
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? Even though we were married in the fall the theme was still Florida summer with bright colors! The aqua and kiwi green colors inspired the fun summery theme and everything down to the frozen margaritas coordinated.
What colors did you choose for your wedding? Bright aqua and kiwi green.
Describe your wedding flowers: Huge white hydrangeas, bright green viburnum with hypericum berries and white roses. Since the rest of the wedding was so colorful I didn’t want the flowers to compete with the color scheme I wanted a clean and classic white with bright green accents. We had pomanders of hydrangea and viburnum hanging from shepherd hooks lining the aisle and rose petals covering the walkway.
Describe your wedding cake: My sister Melanie designed it with four different height round layers of smooth almond flavored aqua colored fondant with accents of green icing pearls and ribbon and hydrangea as the topper.
How did the two of you meet? (Josh) We were both attending graduate school at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL when I moved in to the house across the street from Kimberly. We met a few times briefly when she was walking her dog or tailgating before a Gator football game. I finally got the courage to ask her out on St. Patrick’s Day in 2005. My roommate, Will and I wanted to wear something green when we went out to The Swamp, a popular Gainesville bar right down the street from both of our houses, for St. Patrick’s Day and we thought our “Goose and Maverick” flight suits from Halloween would be perfect. I knew if Kimberly agreed to go out with me when I asked wearing a one-piece “Goose” flight suit and aviators this girl may be the one for me.  The next night, we had our first date at a tiny fantastic restaurant in Gainesville, Bistro 1245. We talked for hours that night and have not spent a moment apart since.
Describe your engagement: We walked from our hotel near Rue Cler under the Eiffel tower and got on this gorgeous river cruise ship. With the scenic views of Paris from the Seine River Josh shocked me and proposed. It was the last thing I expected that night and it was perfect.
What attracted me to my husband was: How funny he is! He can make me laugh even on my worst day. He is so incredibly patient and the smartest person I know!
What attracted me to my wife was: She has amazing good looks and the personality to match. And she just gets me. It doesn’t hurt that she laughs at all my jokes and she’s smarter than me too.
A date we went on that we’ll always remember: Eating outside at a little café in Vernazza, Italy. We were drinking the restaurant owner’s homemade wine and didn’t even notice they had closed the restaurant around us and all the chairs were on the tables. We both agree that was the most romantic and funniest night of our lives!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: I could never decide what my favorite was because I loved everything so much. But I have to say the one thing I’ve heard the most about from guests is the signature cocktail. They loved getting that aqua colored frozen margarita to help cool off right after the ceremony and not having to stand in line for it!
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? My indecisiveness!
Were there any special family traditions you included in the wedding? Everyone in both of our immediate families was involved in the ceremony and Kimberly’s uncle officiated the ceremony. We actually were married on Kimberly’s parents’ 34th wedding anniversary.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Just after the ceremony when Josh and I had a moment by ourselves under this huge oak tree, we had a minute to just be “there” with each other and let everything sink in.
Scariest moment? Just before walking down the aisle, I was so incredibly nervous about being in front of everyone.
Funniest moment? When a friend who never dances decided to break out the worm in the middle of the dance floor! It was such a great party.
What were your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue items? My grammy and my mom sewed a piece of my mother’s wedding dress into a pillow for my something old.
Why do you love your husband?  I love him for the same reasons I was initially attracted to him and I’ve found that he is extremely responsible and I trust him completely, not just with my heart but with my entire life. I never worry about anything when he’s around.
The most unexpected event on our wedding day was: How fast it flew by. One minute I’m waking up and the next minute I’m putting my dress on then all the sudden the whole thing is over. It was crazy how fast the day flew.
How was your wedding different than the way you’d always imagined it would be? It wasn’t. It was the most perfect day. I only wish it had gone on longer so I could have really taken it all in-thank goodness for pictures and videographers (To see the video {CLICK HERE})!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Romantic, gorgeous, and fun!
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Pay attention to the details because that’s what really makes it standout in the end. Have a wedding coordinator, even if it’s only for the day-of. And most important hire a videographer that is as awesome as ours was so you can relive that day over and over.

Congratulations to Kimberly + Josh!  We wish you years of happiness~

Awesome wedding! This is a great example of why destination weddings can be so cool; you don’t have to follow "season matching" because Florida stays green all year. Just like the bride said, here it is fall…and you’d never think anything other than its a beautiful warm summer day.

Just heard back from the event planner, Shannon, and she has informed me of the following: "Wonderful! The dress is a Melissa Sweet and it was purchased at Malindy Elene’s Bridal Boutique in St. Petersburg, FL!". Hope that helps Jeanne.

I’m planning my own Gulf Coast destination wedding and I am looking for suits just like the ones the guys are wearing. Finding a nice khaki suit has proved TOUGH! Where did Josh & his groomsmen get their suits?

That looks like one of the most beautiful weddings I have seen in a long time. They must have had a wonderful time. I am sure their parents are proud of such a happy and beautiful, wedding party.

This is wonderful — the colors are so fun and poppy — I love it! And, of course, it particularly tugs at my heartstrings since I’m a Gator myself and still reside here in Gainesville. Many kudos to them for putting on a lovely wedding Floridian style! And, I’m LOVING that flower girl — she’s so adorable in her matching dress!

Beautiful! I am loving how the aqua pops as the bride and groom are walking back down the aisle. But my fav photo is when she is staring into the eyes of her new husband. You can tell she adores him. So sweet!

Can someone post how much this wedding cost? I am thinking of having my wedding in the same location and would love to have something this spectacular but it is probably waaay above my budget! Thanks!
