Google+ Wedding Paper Divas CONTEST Winner! - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

And the winner is……….

Michelle from {Starry-eyed Barefoot Bride}!  “Many things can add a southern flair to a wedding, from the down home food to the backyard of a big ‘ol mansion setting, and even the smaller touches like Mason jars used for drinks or floral arrangements. But the KEY thing that makes a wedding southern regardless of the setting or decor, is the one thing you can’t find anywhere else in the world – Southern Hospitality! To me, this is a phrase that encompasses wonderful things like southern comfort (the feeling! Not the liquor!), sweet southern charm, et al. Its a feeling of being at home, and welcome as soon as you set foot in the door, regardless of where you are from or how many people you know at the event… all this and a little ‘twang is what sets a southern wedding apart from anything else.”

To me what makes a wedding "Southern" is the traditions that are done and created on your special day. The meaning behind each wedding day activity in the south is rooted in rich tradition and as a little girl I noticed right away that I would have these traditions on my wedding day. A southern wedding is a very special occasion!

H-O-S-P-I-T-A-L-I-T-Y. All Southern weddings are about showing your guests how grateful you are to have them share this moment with you, through good food, good music and a classic and comfortable atmosphere.

As a Northern girl marrying a very traditional Southern man, I’ve found that what makes a wedding "Southern" is a combination of the location, the guests, the traditional elements you include in the wedding, and, of course, sweet tea. lol.

I think it’s the people. :) Being originally a city-boy as I’m called by the in-laws and their family I’ve learned all about the wonders of Southern. It’s the smiles on their faces, the happiness in their eyes, the laid back gentle attitude, the comforting hugs, the warm smiles, the food they make (always a plus) and the way you feel when it’s all done and over with. That’s what it is to me.

Southern wedding = sweet tea at the reception! Oh and an explosion of flowers seems to be the trend as well! :)

The small little details, that seem so insignificant but make all the difference to the guests.

To have the perfect southern wedding, you should probably serve sweet tea vodka to drink, because it’s amazing. But seriously, you only REALLY know a southern wedding when you’re sitting at one, because it’s the feel of the wedding that makes it southern. The friendliness and the charm combine to make the wedding truly unique and special!

For me, Southern wedding must-haves are the uniquely Southern blend of hospitality and fun–the kind of attitude and atmosphere that makes everyone come away from the weekend feeling like it was not only a great party, but that they were a valued guest and their presence was welcomed and important.

For me, Southern Weddings are all about the little traditions that we have here in the South. Bridal portraits, grooms cakes, things like that. And of course, we can’t forget things like Blush & Bashful! ;-) Southern couples make such a point of making all of their guests feel so welcomed and loved.

a southern wedding is unique not only because it incorporates uniquely southern traditions and details, but also because southern or not, the guests and participants are not just charmed by the event, but engaged and welcomed as a part of it.

Southern hospitality is legendary. We have preserved traditions and invented a few new ones. Our laid back ways and Southern accent make people feel relaxed and part of the family.

What makes a wedding southern is the warm & welcoming atmosphere, laughing so hard your sides ache, and the smell of flowers dancing through the humidity soaked air.

You know what? I’m not even FROM the south – I live in Canada and have done so my whole life. However, each year growing up, my family would spend a few wonderful weeks travelling through the south – and the memories I’ve made and the feelings that those times have left with me are enough to keep me permanently connected to the wonderful elements of southern culture. My wedding, although we’re having it in Canada, is going to evoke the best elements of a southern wedding – we will be encorporating many southern elements and traditions, but above all, the focus is on friends and family coming together to eat good food, share best wishes, and relax in a hospitable, charming setting.

I’m a Philadelphia Bride, but I love Southern Weddings because you can feel the love even by just looking at pictures. Sometimes people get lost in the showiness of weddings. All of the weddings I’ve seen on this blog demonstrate that nothing is more powerful than love & if you have real love at a wedding that’s all that matters.

I think the perfect southern wedding combines fun, classiness, a great band that can play everything from classic rock-n-roll to bluegrass, wonderful food (shrimp and grits has to be on the menu), seersucker suits and all the family and friends toasting the bride and groom with the best bourbon cocktail!

Being a "Northener," I find that southern weddings have a personal style and a strong focus on the guests. Brides are not afraid of the little details that put their personal tough on the day and make you feel like you are the most important guest in the room.

I think it is the food that makes a Southern wedding. It must be excellent, and provide a feeling of comfort.

Southern weddings are warm (and often hot- it IS the South!) and welcoming, never losing that Southern hospitality. There’s sweet tea and lots of "y’all"s and hopefully some fabulous hats. And maybe even a red velvet armadillo groom’s cake!

Southern Weddings are about being stunningly gorgeous and completely comfortable in haute couture dresses while barefoot on the cool grass. It’s about elegance and family charm intertwined.

A southern bride would ask you about your wedding before describing details about her own.She wouldn’t perspire, but would glow…she wouldn’t be afraid to let her quirkiness show–and wouldn’t be complete with a "traveler" to go!Geaux tigers!
