Katelyn James Photography was a dream that came to life in my dorm room during my junior year of college. I was 20 years old and majoring in Art and Communications when I decided to get in touch with my entrepreneurial side and start my own business. During my first season, I shot six weddings and fell in love with this industry! Since then, I have been joined by my sweet husband (and high school sweetheart!) and we shoot over 30 weddings a year and love every minute of it! Michael and I currently live in Richmond, VA with our Bichpoo puppy, Bokeh. As a husband and wife team, we enjoy not only providing our couples with beautiful images, but we also love forming friendships with them throughout the wedding process!

How I got into weddings: I wanted to be a graphic designer… or so I thought. I quickly realized that sitting in a cubicle wasn’t my style. I started my business in 2008, and it was the best decision I could have made as a college student! I’ve been shooting weddings since the fall of 2008 and feel SO blessed to do what I love most for a career!
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The sweet tea, of course!
Favorite part of a wedding day? When the bride gets into her dress! There is just something about that moment that makes the whole day come to life!
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? Remember that your marriage is more important than your wedding. Details will come and go, but your marriage needs to last a lifetime! So be sure to put JUST as much time and effort into preparing your relationship for your wedding as you do your details!
Early bird or night owl? Oh, I’m such a night owl! Productivity seems to start at 11pm for me!
Succulents or peonies? Peonies… the extra fluffy kind!
