Welcome back to the 2017 Southern Weddings Mason-Dixon Madness Tourney! I can’t believe it, but we will officially have a new champion, as everyone’s favorite Southern Soda, Cheerwine, has been eliminated in the Round of 32. It seems there are lots of Kentucky Derby fans among the crowd, as mint juleps won the battle pretty easily. From my own personal bracket, I am thrilled to report that pimento cheese and pecan pie are moving along into the sweet sixteen.

In last week’s head-to-head donut battle, Krispy Kreme took the crown over beingets, the darling of New Orleans. Having grown up visiting the very first Krispy Kreme location in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, I can’t help but be pleased. Given the number of votes cast in the last round, it seems that y’all called in reinforcements to make sure your favorites made it through to the sweet sixteen. Don’t think that your vote doesn’t count. Pound cake beat out peach cobbler by ONE vote and Amber’s red velvet cake nudged out Marissa’s (and my husband’s) beloved banana pudding by a whopping 5 votes out of hundreds and hundreds cast.

You’ve been pre-warned that this next round of voting requires you to pick between biscuits and pimento cheese and sweet tea and Arnold palmers. Is the biscuit or the biscuit spread (which can be put on crackers or celery) more important? To add lemonade to your sweet tea or not? These are some serious question to be debated. Trust your tastebuds! BBQ or shrimp and grits? Mac and cheese or Cornbread? How’s a girl to choose?

Here’s how our bracket is looking now:

To make sure your favorites survive to dance another day, VOTE (and tell all your friends)! Voting is only open until the 22nd, so hurry on up!

I have a question. Is your instgram account for your work only? I #southernwedding all the time but never get my picture added to the feed. Just curious if I am wasting my time. Thank you, Jodi Jackson with Savannah Wedding Dreams

Hi Jodi! Good question! Yes, we generally only feature the work of those who are being featured on our blog that day, something from our archives, from one of our editorials, or the work of a Blue Ribbon Vendor. Hope that helps!

Team Sweet Tea all the way!

Welcome back to the round of 32! The votes have been cast and we’re bidding farewell to 32 bites and beverages, including fried okra (sigh) and coconut cake. I’m happy to report pecan pie and sweet tea both made it through along with my beloved pimento cheese. Although I have to admit that picking between butter beans and pimento cheese so early in the voting seemed unfair.

As with any good march tournament, we had a few upsets and the 7/10 match-ups were quite contentious again this year, with watermelon, pound cake and Coca-Cola emerging victorious as 10 seeds. Sadly, pralines (my gran makes the best pecan pralines in Dixie) didn’t make it through to the next round, but it’s leaving us with a battle of the Southern donuts this week: beignets vs. Krispy Kreme.

Here’s how our bracket’s looking now:

I’m dying to know? Did you learn anything new about your beau oo best friends? I learned that the SW office is loyal to Southern sweets. Marissa is rooting hard for banana pudding and Amber picked Red Velvet Cake to go all the way, which should be interesting since these treats go head-to-head in the Round of 32. Share what you learned, and what you’re pulling for, in the comments below! Second-round voting will be open until March 17th.

It’s already getting so hard! Deviled eggs v. Mac and cheese!

Lara may have already tied the knot to the man of her dreams, but that couldn’t stop me from dreaming up a romantic bridal shower for her and Ari. It is so much fun to plan out some bridal shower inspiration for each other and it may serve as inspiration to some of y’all as well! Also, a little bird mentioned that Ms. Casey is considering a vow renewal, so maybe a little party inspiration will be just what she needs…

Lara grew up on the Florida panhandle, so I couldn’t think of a better place for this bridal shower soiree than a white-washed beach house overlooking the ocean. We would mingle on the porch, eating scrumptious mini key lime tarts (perfect for a Florida celebration!) and chit-chatting away.

Lara’s favorite color is a light and relaxing shade of teal, so I knew that we had to incorporate that lovely shade into the party. Comfortable teal pillows would line the porch swings and bottles of sea glass would line the tables.

Guests, dressed in their finest beach attire, would cheer to Lara and Ari’s continued happiness. Their dearest friends and family would give toasts to the couple.

Lara adores Luna Bars, and I momentarily considered setting up a Luna Bar dessert table, but I figured that light macaroons and zesty key lime desserts might be a bit more fitting. Guests would also enjoy refreshing mint juleps and champagne.

I’d love to have photos of Lara and Ari and their families and friends set up around the porch, and there would be plenty of candles to light the space after the sun went down. At the end of the evening, we would all hop on bicycles and peddle home along the beach after we said our farewells.

Get to know Lara here and here!

What do you think? Is this beach bridal shower your dream shower too? Let us know what your dream bridal shower would look like below!

P.S. For the next post in our shower series, Lara will dream up a bridal shower for Emily! Keep your eyes peeled!

KT Merry, Jessica Lorren, and Millie Holloman are all fabulous members of our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory!
