Natalia + Levi’s wedding was a beauty despite the couple’s not-so-extravagant budget. It’s really an inspiration to many of us (myself and Emily included!) who love shopping flea markets for great surprises. Many of our favorite details were items that Natalia and her mother found while scouring flea markets and antique stores. French doors that displayed table assignments were a steal for $20! Natalia’s mother saw an old house being torn down and paid someone to have the doors delivered to her house instead of being discarded. We love how Natalia + Levi paid homage to the South with their dessert fare. A cake buffet and a “white spot,” a Krispy Kreme donut with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle, paired with Coca-Cola filled tummies all night until the gorgeous sky lantern send off. It’s food that we won’t see anywhere in Paris, but honestly, who’s complaining? That’s why we love the South. Thanks again to Melissa Schollaert Photography for sharing!

Groom’s favorite detail of the wedding: (From the groom) I thought the old cotton warehouse where the reception was held was really cool. I loved seeing how all of the wedding décor complimented the original architecture. Oh, and Hairy Dawg was awesome. Like, REALLY awesome. Go Dawgs!
What was the biggest challenge you faced when planning your wedding? My mom likes to tell me that I have champagne taste and a beer budget. With our big ideas and strict budget, she and I were forced to get creative. We scoured antique markets and found beautiful things in unique places. For example, she saw a construction team tearing down an old home and offered a guy $20 to deliver the beautiful old French doors to my parents’ house. We used the doors at the wedding to display table assignments. It wasn’t always easy, but we had so much fun together on our adventures!
Did you try anything new or untraditional? My godfather, who is like my second father, walked me part way down the aisle and then handed me off to my dad. It was a surprise to me and really touched my heart. My florist and I devised a plan to surprise the mothers. She left two peonies detached from the rest of my bouquet. When I got to the end of the aisle, I was able to pause and present each mother with a peony and a hug before stepping forward into the altar area. We mixed up our bridal party and had both bridesmaids and groomsmen stand on both sides of the altar. I didn’t want it to feel like they were here for only the bride or the groom, but rather for us as a couple.
Describe your wedding cake: Classic City Confections baked the most delicious assortment of cakes! Levi and I cut into a two-tiered red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting in a rosette design. Other flavors included French vanilla with raspberry and pistachio, coconut with lemon curd, chocolate hazelnut with sea salt caramel icing, strawberries and cream, and a chocolate turtle groom’s cake baked by Levi’s sister. Guests also had the option to have Coca-Cola floats and Krispy Kreme donuts – our homage to Atlanta!
Tell us about your grand exit. Our exit was one of my absolute favorite details. Our guests gathered outside the barn and formed a circle around Levi and I and we all released sky lanterns. The view of the sky lanterns floating across the night sky was nothing short of magical!
What advice would you give to someone planning his or her wedding? Hire vendors that you trust implicitly. Working with people who you know will follow through will save you so much stress. Also, never forget that the process is supposed to be fun! If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right. Don’t let anyone tell you a wedding has to have or be anything. Want to wear a purple dress and serve cotton candy instead of wedding cake? Do it! A wedding, as traditional or untraditional as it may be, should always celebrate the couple.

I love absolutely everything about this wedding. From the cotton bouts to the sky lanterns to Krispy Kreme! Gorgeous, and so much inspiration for planning my own wedding.

Absolutely beautiful wedding! I’m planning a southern destination wedding in Charleston, SC and I love every single detail! I hail from Colorado but I think I’m really a southern girl at heart. I am wondering what the source is for “The South” sign? That is a detail that I would love to incorporate into my own wedding if possible!

Hey Amy! There are several online sellers, but this was the first website that came up. Hope this helps! :)

I absolutely love the personal touches. I am doing similar things and was wondering about the lanterns. I have always wanted to do it and thought my wedding would be perfect since we aren’t really doing a send off. So I was wondering if there was any laws you had to follow. Or if there were restrictions as per say a fire hazard or something? Thanks for the info and pictures.

Were the table numbers purchased or DIY?

Megan + Steven’s wedding at The Stockroom in Raleigh was as delightful as their ceremony! While Megan and her mom were the creative geniuses behind the details, A Joyful Occasion coordinated the big day. Catering by Design took care of the food — and man, did their menu sound delicious! The beautiful monogrammed cake was designed by Ambrosia Cake Creations, and the flowering branch, peony, and rose floral arrangements were by Dogwood Tree Floral. One of the most special details? Megan’s (gorgeously monogrammed) reception dress was made by a dear friend, Joslyn Chase! Nancy Ray was, of course, the talent behind the lens.

But you want to know what my favorite detail from Megan + Steven’s wedding was? The BISCUIT BAR! Megan got the idea from SW V3 (see the whole shoot here!), but put her own spin on it. I love that her mother-in-law sewed all the take-home bags! Don’t have an amazingly talented MIL? We’ve put together a shopping round-up debuting this afternoon which will help you whip up your very own biscuit bar. We’ll be back in a flash!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: To be honest, the dress was not my first priority! It wasn’t until I went with two of my bridesmaids, my mom, and her friend to the Carolina Bridal Outlet that I found the one. I felt like a bride as soon as I had it on. It wasn’t too formal, but it was gorgeous. For me, it was comfortable and simple with a little glam. My veil, however, was made from a sample of my mom’s wedding gown. It was cathedral length lace with beautiful detailing. It meant so much that she gave it to me to wear. Paired with my dress, it was absolutely perfect for our ceremony.
Describe your wedding flowers: We used fluffy, pink peonies. They have always been my favorite! I loved the contrast against the mint bridesmaid dresses. We also incorporated some cherry blossoms and garden roses in some of our centerpieces.
Describe your wedding cake: Our cake was a three tiered round cake. It was fairly traditional, with buttercream icing. We filled the spaces between the tiers with peonies and the details of the embedded dots and the monogram dressed it up even more. The inside was delicious! We had different fillings, but our favorite was cookies n’ cream.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Our biggest challenge was actually overcoming some of the emotions that a wedding can bring on. We really came to realize some major differences between his family and mine, and we had to find a way to merge everything, but be true to ourselves at the same time. Steven and I grew closer through it, which I’m very thankful for!
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? In our ceremony, we stuck to the traditional vows. We wrote our own promises to one another and kept it personal as we exchanged them in letters the day of our wedding. The cutest part of Steven’s note to me was that he included the “40 Rules for a Happy Marriage” notecard from Hyman’s Seafood – one of our favorite spots in Charleston.

I have to say, I sure do love The Parsons’ portraits of the bride and groom – especially the shoe (er – shoeless) shot! Meg + Josh moved the party indoors for a warm and rustic barn reception at Southall Eden designed by the fab folks at Vintage My Wedding. Anyone else think their reception venue looks like a real-life country dance hall just waiting for some line dancing and a few YEE-HAWS? Lisa Coffman with Unique Flavors Café & Catering prepared a proper Southern spread atop burlap and quilt-covered banquet tables. (Yes, guests sat on hay bales!) Naturally, M + J opted for live music at the reception. Visit Jeremy + Ashley Parsons’ slideshow from the rockin’ day here, and y’all have yourselves a great fourth day before Christmas!

See all the photos from Meg + Josh’s wedding in their Real Wedding Gallery!

Describe your wedding flowers: We used daisies, pin cushion mums, dahlias, green hypericum berries, camomile and Queen Anne’s Lace. The bouquets were bound with strips from vintage quilt tops, and finished off with buttons. The men wore single-stemmed dahlias on top of a quilt piece bound with vintage lace.
Describe your wedding cake: We had six different kinds of pie instead of a traditional wedding cake.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? I think our biggest challenge was the weather. Two days before the wedding, the forecast looked like rain so we had to make the decision to order a tent for our cocktail hour on the lawn. It was disappointing, and we feared a tent would take away from the aesthetic and decor of our staged cocktail hour. Fortunately, the tent added a nice perimeter to an otherwise vague, undefined space. All in all, everything turned out better than planned. And of course, it never rained.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Writing and saying our own personal vows. It made everything that much more special and real. Since we are wedding photographers and we go to so many weddings, we’ve noticed that so many couples just breeze through the ceremony without realizing that it is the most important part! Our ceremony was incredibly intimate and emotional. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We recently found out we are having a baby!!! So we are looking forward to getting no sleep and changing dirty diapers. But seriously, being married is so incredible, and we can’t imagine how awesome it’s going to be to have a baby together.
