Hello, belles! After all the snow we had last week, this week has dawned sunny and warm — which makes us ready for spring and summer! One of our favorite things about the warmer months just happens to be the arrival of our summer editorial intern, and we’re excited to meet the next guy or gal to fill this role! This is a fantastic opportunity to get a hands-on experience working in a dynamic, small-office environment. Here is what we’re looking for:
– An undergraduate student who can commit to working approximately 20-25 hours a week in June and July. We would ideally love someone who could start in late May and stay into August, as well, for a total of about 10 weeks.
– SOMEONE WHO LOVES WEDDINGS. More than anything else, we want to work with someone who loves weddings and has a KEEN familiarity with weddings, wedding trends, the wedding industry, and the wedding publishing industry. A deep love for the South is important, too!
– A great work ethic is super important to us, as well as someone who loves to learn, can work and problem solve independently, is very responsible, and is a self-starter.
– A firm grasp on grammar. Familiarity with Photoshop, InDesign, and WordPress would be a bonus.
Every Southern Weddings internship is a bit different, but here are some of the things you can expect to experience:
— Sitting in on and contributing to weekly staff meetings and brainstorming sessions
— Learning the basics of working with a WordPress blog and the Adobe Creative Suite
— Writing a post on the blog and/or copy for the magazine
— Researching images and information for features
— Researching, requesting, and tracking products for editorial
— Assisting on site at editorial shoots
— Building portfolios on the SW site
— Assisting with our social media accounts
– Getting a firsthand view of how a bustling magazine, blog, shop, and small business run with a small staff of women
Sound like something you’re interested in? Please fill out this form by Sunday, March 2 at 11:59pm. Please let us know in the comments if you have any questions. Please do not email your application to us or email us to confirm receipt. We will be in touch with applicants who we think might be a good fit within two weeks of March 2.
This position is unpaid, but we are happy to work with you to get college credit if that’s something your school offers. We know this will be a great learning opportunity! If chosen for the internship, we will need you to work in person at our Chapel Hill office, but any college student who can get themselves to Chapel Hill for the summer is eligible to apply.
We can’t wait to hear from y’all!!
YAHOO! I don’t often comment here, but I love Southern Weddings and am filling out this application ASAP! Thanks a bunch, ya’ll!
Would you need to live in the area or is living accommodations something you can work with?
Hello SW Ladies!
I am a recent college grad with a BA in English with an emphasis is Creative Writing. I have also done professional graphic design for several years specifically in the wedding and event industry. I would love to be considered for the summer intern spot. Although I am no longer in college, I would happily accept an unpaid position with SW for experience. When looking at the form I noticed there was no way to specify that. Would I still be able to be considered for this position?
Warmly,
Courtney Basik
Hi Courtney! Thank you so much for your interest! At this time, this opportunity is only open to undergraduates.
Is this position only available for people who live in the area?
Hi Ashley! This internship is open to anyone who can get themselves to Chapel Hill for the summer, so as long as you have a place to stay, you’re eligible to apply!
I might of submitted twice my browser timed out! Sorry!
I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity for a while! Thank you SW ladies!
Hi! I was just wondering if you ever do internships but for those who already have an undergraduate degree? I am currently an elementary teacher with a passion for graphic design, blogging, design, and weddings. Any suggestions with how to gain experience and possibly work with a great company such as Southernweddings ? Thanks so much! I appreciate it! Lindsey Fillman
Hi Lindsey! We do not offer internships to non-undergraduates at this time, but many companies do! In addition, some companies, such as Style Me Pretty, are often hiring contract writers for their blog, which could be a great part-time (and paid!) way to gain experience. If you are interested in something like that, I would recommend writing on your own blog first to be able to show them your voice and style. Best of luck!
Hey y’all!
I am currently a Fashion Merchandising & Retail Marketing student at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte,NC and I was wondering/hoping that y’all would have another internship opportunity in winter. I have to complete a full time internship for school in our winter term and I would love to have a chance to do it with y’all since I want to persue a career in y’all’s field. I have experience in the wedding industry and would love to expand my experience and knowledge through an internship with Southern Weddings, so I’m crossing my fingers that y’all will have something around that time!
Thanks!
-Chelsey

I am absolutely perfect for this Internship, are you accepting applications for this year?
