It’s really a joy to get to introduce y’all to a new set of Blue Ribbon Vendors each month, because I just know any one of them would be a joy to you if you choose to work together! This time around, we’re introducing you to a few of them through their answers to some of our favorite BRV interview questions. Click through to their listings to find out more about them!

Name: Alyssa Arlene Events
Where you call home: Small town Louisiana
Why you do what you do: I want to work hard to prepare for your wedding day so you can work hard to prepare for your life together.

Name: Ashlee Virginia Events
Where you call home: Virginia, but we are constantly in South Carolina and Florida!
How I got into weddings: I founded AVE in 2009 after working as a wedding planner at a well-known Virginia venue. One of the blessings of being in the DC area is that you have access to every type of venue imaginable, and I wanted to design events at all of them! I took a leap of faith and have been blessed with wonderful brides and grooms that believe in me.

Name: Hannah Mayo Photography
Where you call home: Palm Beach, Florida
Best piece of advice for brides and grooms? Remember that this is about your love, first and foremost. Infuse the day with your personalities but make sure it all comes down to building a future together with your soul mate.

Name: Kate Foley Designs
Where you call home: Ft. Worth
How I got into weddings: After studying flowers and interior design in college, my best friend asked me to be a bridesmaid and design the flowers for her wedding. I fell in love with wedding flower designs and 15 years later, I still love what I do!

Name: Krystal Kast Photographers
Where you call home: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Dream travel destination? Corsica, France, or a cycling trip around Sicily

Name: Legacy Farms
Where you call home: Tennessee
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? How sugar-sweet the guests are! There aren’t many weddings in which hearts aren’t being blessed and cornbread isn’t part of the bread basket.

Name: Llorente Design
Where you call home: Miami, Florida
Favorite part of a wedding day? The bride and groom’s first dance. I always cry.

Name: O.Henry Hotel
Where you call home: Greensboro, North Carolina
Things you’d write home to your Momma about: O.Henry Hotel was hand-selected to be a member of the “Southern Living” Hotel Collection and is also a AAA four diamond hotel.

Name: Poppy Lane Design
Where you call home: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Favorite part of a wedding day? The happiest moment is the bride’s face when she sees her bouquet for the first time. To us, it’s equal to the groom seeing her for the first time.

Name: Rachel May Photography
Where you call home: Madison County, Virginia
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The sweet Southern hospitality. The care and love of every detail for each guest. I also love the tradition and how each family treasures them; it’s not done as a routine but as a gift passed down.

Check out all of our favorite vendors in the Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory! I also wanted to mention that we’re working particularly hard to expand some of our areas of slim pickings – namely, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. If you would like to recommend someone (or nominate yourself!) for any of these states, please email emily at southernweddings.com!

Name: Amore Events by Cody
Where you call home: Charlottesville, Virginia
Favorite part of a wedding day? When the bride and groom come in and see the reception all set up before any of the guests come in. They get to see everything they dreamed about and planned for all put together and beautiful!

Name: Ashley Seawell
Where you call home: Aiken, South Carolina
Favorite Southern city? I was married in Savannah so it will always be my favorite city!

Name: Brita Photography
Where you call home: Atlanta, Georgia
Best piece of advice for brides and grooms? Don’t let the little obstacles get in the way of what really matters on your wedding day (and in your journey together). Cherish the entire day! It goes by entirely too fast!

Name: Butterfly Gap Retreat
Where you call home: Maryville, Tennessee
How I got into weddings: Funny story! My parents owned 900 acres of undisturbed mountain property, and I was engaged! After building a 12-acre lake for their private use, we decided the peninsula on the water would be the perfect backdrop for my outdoor wedding. Not wanting to have a reception in a tent, we contacted my uncle, a local architect, to build a special events building. After my wedding, we decided to start a family special events business and bed and breakfast. We started with the reception facility and three guesthouses. Now we also offer an indoor wedding facility and are under construction on our seventh guesthouse. Our little family of five has come a long way!

Name: Christina Banner Cakes
Where you call home: Newland, NC
Favorite part of a wedding day? The part of a wedding day that I enjoy the most is actually a part that the bride and groom rarely see. It happens one or two hours before the reception begins, when all of the vendors are busy doing their thing. The band is rehearsing, the cake is being set up, last minute touches are being added to the table settings, and so on. There is so much energy and anticipation in the room, as all of the hard work and preparation starts to come together for the big event!

Name: Courtney Dox
Where you call home: Columbia, South Carolina
Favorite part of a wedding day? I have two! One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is the moment right before a father walks his daughter down the aisle. I love to watch Dad’s eyes well up as he breathes deeply, trying to keep it together, because he just realized he’s about to give his baby girl away. Gets me every time! I also love to watch the bride and groom cut a rug on the dance floor!

Name: Dark Roux
Where you call home: New Orleans, Louisiana
How we got into weddings: We eloped and have no photographs from our very special day. We didn’t mind at first, but once we had children and realized we had no images to share with them, it really bummed us out. The very first wedding we shot was an elopement on Mardi Gras day, and we were very excited to have the opportunity to give the couple the photos that we missed out on. We really fell in love with preserving those special moments for people on one of the most important days in their lives, so we made wedding photography our priority!

Name: Fern Studio
Where you call home: Columbia, SC
Best piece of advice for brides and grooms? Work hard at the beginning to find vendors who compliment your style and understand your vision. Hire them. Give them some loose inspiration but the freedom to do their best work. You’ll get it.

Name: Fresh. Local. Good. Food Group
Where you call home: Greensboro, NC
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? There are so many! Warm nights and fireflies. The charm that comes with bow ties and bluebonnets. A gathering of friends and family in wide open spaces. The “y’all’s” and the prayers and the “bless your hearts”. More than anything, it’s the comfort of easy love: no fuss, definitely frills, and lots of fun.

Name: Floral & Bloom
Where you call home: Always been a Maryland girl
Things you’d write home to your Momma about: I love sharing exciting news with my momma… oh, and I can’t forget about my grandma! Having my work featured on Southern Weddings and Style Me Pretty is such an honor! I would be really proud to tell them that I am following my dreams and doing something I truly love, and that their support means the world to me.

It has been so neat to hear from so many of you over the past weeks and months about vendors you think should be added to our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory. I love that it’s a resource y’all can both add to and draw from – either from or for your own wedding! Here are a few more recently added creative partners that we think you should meet:

Marissa Joy is a kind and intuitive photographer, making it easy for her to genuinely portray both intimate and candid moments. Her natural style is elegant, and, combined with the personality of her couples, results in heartfelt and personal work. She shoots primarily in North Carolina, Maryland, and Washington, DC.

Traci’s work is atmospheric and intimate. She has a knack for capturing quiet, unnoticed moments that will be treasured for years to come. Anne Marie Photography is based in New Braunfels, Texas.

Jillian’s designs are just gorgeous to look at, aren’t they? We love the juxtaposition of wild and elegant she achieves with her art for loose arranging and selecting the most beautiful blooms. Mimi Nicole Events is based in South Carolina.

Mint’s work is simply lovely. These two gals have a beautiful and unique way of seeing the world, one that allows them to capture the beauty, intimacy, and love between their couples in a soft and peaceful way. Mint Photography is based in San Antonio.

Francesca and her team’s work is elegant, soft, and sophisticated — just like a Southern belle! We love Pure Luxe’s focus on creating “genuine” weddings — totally in line with the SW manifesto. They are based in South Carolina.

Chloe’s wild and wonderful blooms are the perfect mix of texture, color, and composition. We adore her work!
Supposey Wedding Florals is based in Florida.

Tamara is a sweet and earnest soul, and is about as hardworking as they come. Her flowers are lush and romantic, but we especially adore her passion for nurturing strong marriages as well as beautiful weddings! Tamara Menges Designs is based in Groves, Texas.

We love Abby’s sweet heart and love for what she does, and think it shows in her images! They’re simple and timeless, just like the weddings she most enjoys capturing. Abby Grace Photography is based in Virginia and Washington, DC.

Brittany’s work is polished but natural — she is a genius at making gals look like the most beautiful version of themselves! We can’t decide whether we prefer her gorgeous updos or beautiful waves more, but we know we’d be happy with either on our wedding day. She and her team work throughout the Southeast – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee!

Heidi and the folks at The Dandelion Patch just get it – they have a keen eye for what brides want, and carry a selection of some of the most beautiful stationery and invitations we’ve seen. You won’t regret stopping for a peek at their collection! They have locations in Vienna and Reston Virginia, and in Washington, DC.

As always, if you think there’s a talented vendor we should be introduced to, send me an email! I’d love to hear. In the meantime, you can see all of our Blue Ribbon Vendors (and search by state and category) right here.
