When we asked on Instagram what y’all are most looking forward to about summer, the answers ranged quite a bit–you have everything from road trips to summer weddings to backyard cookouts on your calendars! One common thread? You’re looking forward to spending time with people you love…and when we think about what we’re most excited about, that’s exactly what we would say, too. I’m not sure if it’s the weather or the memories of childhood summers spent with friends or what, but something about this season invites us deeper into our communities and makes us want to invest in our relationships in a fresh, new way. And that’s where our theme for the next few weeks comes in!

If you follow our sister brand, the Lara Casey Shop, you may remember Fruitful Summer–a series all about deepening existing friendships and making new friends–from last year. This year, Southern Weddings is joining the Fruitful Summer party with our own spin on the theme! In our newsletter over the next few weeks, we’ll be chatting specifically about one of the MOST important relationships in your life: your relationship with your significant other. Whether you’re dating, engaged, a newlywed, or you’ve been married awhile, we have something in store for you that we hope will speak right to your heart, and encourage you to make the most of the season you’re currently sharing with the one you love.

Sign up for our newsletter here to receive an exclusive video we created to give you more details about what’s to come in Fruitful Summer! You’ll also gain access to recipes for four fruity takes on classic Southern sweet tea that we created to accompany each week of the series. Along with plenty of tips and ideas for your relationship, get ready for lots of fruit puns :)

If you’ve ever searched the web for home DIY projects and inspiration, chances are, today’s couple needs no introduction! Sherry and John Petersik are the avid DIY-ers behind the popular home renovation blog and bestselling book, Young House Love. They live just a few hours away from the SW team in Richmond, and are currently working on their third house, alongside their adorable three-year-old daughter, Clara, and their chihuahua, Burger. They were married in the backyard of their first house six and a half years ago, and we were so excited to have their marriage advice grace the pages of V6!

People always ask us how we’ve managed to do house projects together for five years straight without throwing things at each other, and our answer is always this: it’s us against the house! It’s nice to remember that we’re on the same team and we both want the same outcome. So if we hit a few speed bumps, we’re both going to feel them and get frustrated, but it’s not like either one of us is to blame for them. It’s the dang house! When things are all put back together, we always end up more proud and in love with the house then ever, which is how we get sucked into our next project. It’s a vicious cycle, but there’s no one we’d rather be in that DIY foxhole with.

Having recently attempted some minor house projects (inspired by these two, of course!), I appreciate John and Sherry’s advice even more! Love them :)
