K + C enjoyed a lake-front reception with family and friends at Crisp’s family plantation, Thronateeska Bluffs, and we can’t think of a better setting for an outdoor celebration.  The couple’s four-tier round wedding cake is elegant and traditional, but take a look at that chocolate groom’s cake!  Turkey feathers and shoot gun shells?  A-mazing.  I was hoping for a few more shots of the bride in her stunning Amsale gown, but luckily Katie’s short Lela Rose reception frock is retro, chic and all kinds of fun.  Victory!  BIG, big thanks to 509 Photo for sharing their classic, timeless shots of the big day.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: Drama! Like most girls, I had been dreaming of a wedding my whole life, but the dress eluded me! I looked through all kinds of magazines and scoured the internet, but just didn’t find the one.  My mother and I visited almost every bridal store in Atlanta, but I wasn’t having any luck on finding “the one.”  On the last day, we went to Bridals by Lori, where they were having an Amsale trunk show.  I narrowed it down to two dresses I liked and thought could be my wedding dress.  I ordered one of the dresses, and six months later it arrived, but was ALL WRONG!   The designer had changed some of the design elements that had been part of the runway dress I had originally tried on at the trunk show. It was a mess!  After a lot of help from one of the managers, Amsale sent me a new dress in 1 week!  And at the end of the day, I loved my dress!  It was stunning and classic.  My nightmare must have made for a good storyline, because they asked me to film an episode for the new season of “Say Yes to the Dress!”
Describe your wedding flowers: I carried a hand-tied bouquet of white cymbidium and dendrobium orchids, white hydrangea, caramel antique garden roses with accents of turkey feather tips and seeded willow eucalyptus.  I wanted all neutral colors: soft whites, champagnes and greens… simple!
Describe your wedding cake: Simple and delicious! You can’t go wrong with pound cake.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? The guest list! Crisp and I are both are from small towns, and it’s hard not to invite everyone!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? I would say our exit from the ceremony! In true Southern style, after we said our I Dos and were presented as Mr. & Mrs. Gatewood, we surprised guests with the Mule Drawn-Quail Hunting Wagon that drove us away. We left waving to family and friends and enjoyed a short romantic ride down an oak-lined drive. We spent about 30 minutes taking those memorable “We’re married!” pictures.  I loved those first few moments as husband and wife!
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future? We are finally getting settled into our new house! We have done a little remodeling, and everything is starting to come together. I need to learn how to cook, even though Crisp does a great job, and only have about 100 more thank-you notes to write.  We are loving every minute of married life!

That's really great that Amsale was able to get you a replacement dress in a week. It's even better luck that your original dress arrived in time enough for Amsale to send you another. The wedding pictures are great. Looks like everyone had a great time.

Brooke and Dean’s day-after shoot is gorgeous, obviously.  Stunning, really.  The wide-open field crossed by a galloping horse?  The LIGHTNING?  Almost too good to be true.  But what really got me in Brooke’s story, below, is her feeling of something “rising up inside her” when she thought about the shoot.  I knew exactly what she was talking about: that giddy, bubbling feeling you get when you’re truly excited about something, and can’t believe it’s really happening.  I think everyone should experience that sometime in their wedding planning process, and I’m so happy we’re all able to share in Brooke’s moment.

P.S. Her dress is by Allure , his boots are by Anderson Bean, and the stunning photographs are the work of Aric + Casey.  Thanks so much for sending them over!

From the bride:

“Dean and I love the ranch; in fact, it’s my favorite place on earth.  The ranch is the place where Dean first fell in love with me (I was already in love with him!), and the ranch is where he proposed.  Everything about the ranch is so meaningful to the both of us, so when my best friend suggested we take our day-after photos there, I wouldn’t take no for an answer.

I wanted the photos to capture the beauty and adventure of the ranch, as well as the love that my husband and I share.  To be perfectly honest, I still can’t believe I rode bareback on a horse in my wedding dress! But I remember being in junior high when the movie Runaway Bride came out.  When Julia Roberts finally says “I do,” she rides off into the sunset on a horse, in her dress, with her groom.  The first time I saw that, something rose up in me, and I wanted to do the very same thing.  But life happened.  It became silly, and I stuffed that dream, that desire, away… until suddenly I was nervously sitting bareback, on a horse, holding tight to my husband, and he was asking, “Are you ready?”

If I had any advice to give a bride for her wedding, I would say don’t worry about the dress.  That was my biggest fear throughout my entire wedding process, but I did more damage to my dress dancing at my reception and walking down the aisle than I did riding a horse across the field.  If there is a dream that you have, but you are worried about getting your dress dirty in the process, remind yourself that for the rest of your life, your dress is going to be in a box, never to be touched or worn again.  And, if something does happen, you can have the dress cleaned and repaired.  I will be forever grateful to my sister, who said to me, “You will regret it if you don’t do it” (referring, of course, to the whole riding-bareback-on-a-horse-in-my-beloved-wedding-dress thing).  So I did it.

Be bold.  Go after your dreams.  Do something that you love, that’s totally you!  Take the pictures that you want, and don’t worry about the dress. Do you want safe pictures that kept your dress intact?  Or do you want pictures that take people’s breath away, and remind them of what life is supposed to be like?  The choice is yours.  I, for one, am glad that I chose to go after my dreams.”

Thank you so much for sharing, Brooke + Dean!  Your photos and your story are inspiring!

As a mom to a little girl in love with horses and weddings (because she always sees me working on wedding images), this is wonderful advice that I can pass along to her when it's her turn to marry. And as a wedding photographer, Aric and Casey's work is simply breathtaking. Excellent job capturing what the bride felt in her heart…..

There’s just something about Erik’s photographs that seems to match Tara + Jeremy.  The images are warm, rich, colorful, and somehow have a heightened sense about them.  From Erik’s blog post, that seems to be the same way people feel about today’s couple.  To read the whole story behind the special day, check out the Poser blogHappy Friday!

P.S. LOVE the succulents at each place setting and the rough wooden boxes incorporated into the table decor.  Ashley Kirk of Ashilirium did a fabulous job, didn’t she?

Once again, here are the VIP vendors.  Thanks so much for sharing your work with us!
