Happy Monday, y’all! If you’re off to a bit of a slow start like I am, maybe today’s wedding will help get you in the spirit! (You know, the Monday-Funday spirit.)

Shelley + Greg’s wedding is fun, indeed! Is anyone else crazy for Shelley’s white “getting ready” dress and her adorable monogram and flower-adorned bag? It’s a good sign when you’re finding things you love in a wedding before the bride even puts on her wedding gown! (Shelley’s gown is actually her second white dress. Her first was ruined by the cleaners after her bridal portraits — yikes!) We’re loving the big pink bouquets and boutonnieres and the striped details, from the groomsmen’s custom ties to the wedding programs. Cheers to Virgil Bunao Photography who shared this fun wedding with us!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We actually met on match.com. Greg is from Cary, NC where I was born and we learned that we even went to the same pediatrician when we were infants! Greg drove down to Charleston last October for us to meet and we clicked immediately. We had an amazing weekend together and I knew that weekend that Greg was the man I wanted to marry. He met my family and all of my parents’ friends the following weekend and they, of course, loved him. Greg and I make a perfect team together as husband and wife and as friends.
Describe the proposal. Greg proposed to me at my parents’ house in Ohio on December 23. We were able to celebrate with my family until Christmas day and then flew to Cary to celebrate Christmas and our engagement with Greg’s family.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Nostalgically Southern, beautiful, and fun.
In what month did you get married? July
How many guests attended your wedding? 115
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? We love pink and green. The guys all wore khaki suits with custom made pink and green ties from M. Dumas & Sons. The girls kept it simple in pink J.Crew dresses and wedge heels, while the four children in the wedding wore custom-made seersucker john johns in green and dresses in pink with their monogrammed initials on the front. We wanted the entire day to be Southern and detail-oriented so we also provided pink and green flip flops in galvanized buckets, custom-made bottled water, pink and green koozies, pink and white striped ceremony programs, bamboo fans, monogrammed pink and green matchbooks for the sparklers, and more.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: To make a long story short, I ended up with the most perfect wedding dress just two weeks before my wedding. My wedding dress was ruined by the cleaners after my bridal portrait shoot and I was forced to find a replacement dress, which I wanted it to look as much like my original dress as possible. Lula Kate had a sample very similar to my original Lula Kate dress, but it was too tight for me. I took the dress to my seamstress and she worked magic. She lowered the back on the replacement dress to make it more comfortable and Lula Kate rush ordered a replacement sash to make my wedding day dress better than I could have imagined.
Describe your wedding flowers: Breath taking! Whitney far exceeded our expectations and we will never forget the flowers on our wedding day. We told her that we love pink and green and love tulips, peonies, and hydrangea. Whitney hit a home run with the flowers. She even brought a beautiful pink peony for me in a mason jar for the girls to put in my hair for the reception. I loved it!

The girls in the office know, but I used to have an oversized jute tote bag very similar to the monogrammed one above. I loved that thing and wore it out! Such a great gift idea for the girls. I got mine for $5 at a wholesale trade show. They had all kinds of colors!

This wedding is absolutely beautiful! Does anyone know anything about the dress the bride is wearing in the photo with the tote bag? It’s exactly what I’m looking for in an exit dress and ties in perfectly with out decoration motif.

What’s more Southern than a mason jar full of sweet tea? A monogrammed mason jar full of sweet tea. Ashley + Steve’s Alabama wedding had the office abuzz when we saw photos of their reception. Among the cakes and the flowers, one thing stood out: their mason jars!

We wanted them! If you did, too, I don’t blame you. They’re perfect to serve drinks in, use as vases, or as a part of your wedding favors. Imagine how cute they would look next to a candy bar or stacked and filled with jam!

Want to know how to make a version of your own? It’s simple! Although it might take a little practice with a crafting knife (you’ll need to cut your own stencil), the end result is a cute and cost-effective way to add a personal touch to your wedding.

What you’ll need:
-Contact Paper
-Crafting knife
-Glass etching cream (I used Armour Etch)
-Applicator (like a paintbrush or cotton swab)
-Mason jars, washed and dried.

How you do it:

DIY: Monogrammed Mason Jars from Southern Weddings on Vimeo.

1. Cut out a square of contact paper big enough to cover the front of your mason jar. More is better here, you can always trim later.
2. Trace your monogram onto the contact paper.
3. Cut out your monogram. (Note: a little practice with a crafting knife may be needed before you do this.)
4. Peel the backing off your contact paper and stick it to the front of your mason jar. Make sure there is some excess contact paper around your monogram so that the glass etching cream doesn’t run over your glass later.
5. Press the stencil down well, especially around the area you cut out.
6. Apply the glass etching cream to the cut out areas of your stencil. Make sure all the cut out parts are covered, but you don’t need to use a lot. (Note: be careful not to get the cream on your hands. It can give you a chemical burn.)
7. Let it sit for five minutes.
8. Rise off the cream — with your stencil still on — with some water. (Note: while you’re rinsing, it might look like your glass didn’t etch. Don’t fret! Just let the mason jar dry first and then you will see it.)
8. Peel the stencil off and let the mason jar dry.
9. Put flowers, drinks, candy or the like in the jar and enjoy!

If you couldn’t tell from the video, here is what the mason jar ended up looking like:

can you re-use the sticker/contact paper? i want to do this for wedding favors but the idea of cutting out so many designs is daunting…

    • avatar Nicole reply

You can definitely reuse the contact paper, even after rinsing. That’s part of what I love about it! I would just be careful about making sure the edges where you cut your pattern out are still sticking well enough time after time, the etching cream can run and make things sloppy.

  5. avatar Evelyn reply

Hi! I love this idea! Would the 3oz glass etching cream suffice for 12 jars?

    • avatar Nicole reply

Hi Evelyn! I think 3oz would be plenty for 12 jars, although that does depend on how big your design is. Let us know how it goes!

    • avatar Brooke reply

Nicole: If the etched mason jars are washed and used several times will they still look the same? Thinking of it for a wedding favor and wanted to make sure it will be able to be enjoyed years to come.
