What could be more Southern than a magnolia wreath?

Sometimes, classic really is where it’s at, and this simple but gorgeous wreath proves that point, I think. I could picture these on the doors of your church, or perhaps on the end of every other pew down the aisle. See more from this lovely Savannah wedding, shot by Amanda and Brent with Millie Holloman Photography, here! And tell me: have you or would you use magnolias in your wedding decor?

I absolutely love how classic and Southern magnolias are, not to mention their wonderful scent! We are using magnolia leaves to frame our wreaths on the doors to the chapel where we will be married, and we are also using magnolia leaves, branches and blossoms mixed with other blooms on the cake table. Our cake will have some magnolia-inspired sugar blossoms on it, too!

I used the magnolia trees at our wedding site for inspiration. They were present in table settings and bouquettes. Some of our favorite pictures are of us surrounded by magnolia branches!

I love the wreath! I am definitely considering using magnolia leaves but haven’t quite figured out how yet. The plantation at which we are getting married has several large magnolia trees on the property and I think mixing them into the decor would be great- and oh-so-southern.

This is gorgeous! Just the subtle changes in the leaf colours makes this amazing!

  6. avatar Elizabeth reply

Definitely!! They are beautiful and so very southern! I already mentioned it to my florist :)

  7. avatar Lauren reply

The magnolia wreath was my very first floral “must have!” My wedding was in Davidson, NC and my florist accented the wreaths with small ivory roses – subtle, but the addition made the green and cream really pop on the doors to the sanctuary!

  8. avatar Julianna reply

Yes! Love this. Our reception is in an old Southern hotel where the wallpaper is full of magnolias… we are carrying through the motif in our cake with large sugar magnolia blossoms.

Darling! That’s the only word I’ve got for this shoot. That should come as no surprise, I suppose, since it debuted in designer Beth Helmstetter’s new online magazine, Darling! The minute I saw it I knew we had to feature it — there’s something so Southern about the clean lines, soft patterns, and vintage touches (and, of course, the peaches and magnolias!). Beth was gracious enough to lend us the photographs, taken by the talented Steve Steinhardt. Hannah Bergman directed this lovely shoot, including blooms by Holly Flora, a cake by Susiecakes, china from Z Gallerie, glassware from West Elm, and calligraphy by Laura Hooper. To see all of Beth’s tips for pulling together a look like this on your wedding day, be sure to check out the first issue of Darling!

V3 Feature :: Southern Meets SoCal

by in Main on

Well aren’t y’all lucky! Today we’re featuring one of my very favorite spreads from V3. In Southern by Design, we featured shoots from three of our favorite bloggers. Each took the classic Southern wedding and made it their own, either by reinterpreting a Southern element or transposing Southern elements into their own environment. They did SUCH a fabulous job, and we’re honored to be able to show off their work in V3’s pages.

Today we’re featuring the shoot of Jen from Green Wedding Shoes. We dubbed it “Southern Meets Southern California” since Jen and her team took classic Southern elements (green tomatoes, raw cotton, magnolias) and gave them a SoCal makeover with the addition of West Coast details like succulents and an organic juice bar. Here’s a peek:

The gallery has ALL the pretty details — click here to see! In the meantime, here’s a look at the super-fabulous team. We love you all!

Photography: Stephanie Williams // Concept + Design: Jen Campbell and Carissa Jones // Styling: Jen Campbell of Green Wedding Shoes // Flowers: Carissa Jones of JL Designs // Makeup and Hair: Nyrie of Symmetry Beauty // Jouer Cosmetics and Unite // Prop Rentals: Found // Wedding Dresses: Temperley London // Paper Details: MaeMae Paperie // Hair Pieces: Lo Boheme // Bride’s Shoes: Shoebuy.com // Groom’s Shoes: 6pm.com // Models: Chris Marino and Amanda Rau

If you like what you see, be sure to pick up a copy of V3! You can always purchase one off our site here. Happy reading!
