Some of Katie and Kyle’s most treasured memories have taken place outdoors–they were even engaged while on a sunset horseback ride! With their adventurous spirits and their desire to throw a wedding that was uniquely them in mind, they chose Spring Hill Plantation for their outdoor ceremony and barn reception. It fit their personalities to a tee, and was a perfect setting for them to say their vows, dig into some Southern cuisine, and dance the night away to their favorite band from college!

Thanks so much to The Happy Bloom for sharing Katie and Kyle’s fun wedding with us!

I went dress shopping in Birmingham for a weekend with several of my close friends, my mom, and my aunt. I knew from day one that I wanted something extremely different, and spent all day trying on dress, after dress, after dress! Nothing was quite right. I was just about to give up when my sister-in-law brought something into the dressing room. It wasn’t my favorite on the hanger, and it was completely different from everything I had said that I wanted. Of course, it fit like a glove and I fell in love!

Describe your wedding flowers. My wedding flowers were absolutely amazing! My bouquet was filled with light pink peonies. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were filled with bright spring flowers and succulents. The groomsmen’s boutonnieres were made of wine corks and cotton, paired with small bright flowers.

What is the one detail or vendor that you were so happy to have as a part of your wedding? The Happy Bloom! These two amazing photographers were such a blessing throughout our whole engagement. We have been in several weddings that they have shot, and knew we had to have them. From our beautiful engagement session to our timeless wedding photos, I couldn’t have imagined a better couple to capture every detail of our amazing day!

From day one, my husband and I always wanted our day to be completely different from the weddings we had ever been in…and we have been in a lot of weddings! Our venue was outdoors, which was perfect for us. Getting married by the pond and having a reception outside by the barn was the most beautiful setting we could have ever imagined.

What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Besides my venue and the beautiful rustic decorations, the food was the most Southern part of our wedding. We served shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes, just to name a few. About an hour before the band stopped, we served ham and sausage biscuits as a late-night snack.

Describe your wedding cake. For our wedding cake, we had a petit four tower and a two-tier wedding cake with white chocolate filling. The groom’s cake was a two-tier peanut butter cake with chocolate frosting.

How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story. Kyle and I are originally from the same hometown. We had mutual friends, but never dated. It wasn’t until several years down the road that we hit it off at the Auburn University rodeo. Five years later, here we are as Mr. and Mrs. Steadham!
Tell us all about the proposal! It all started with a surprise trip. My best friend packed my bags for me and I had no idea where Kyle and I were going until we pulled into the small town of Helen, Georgia. Throughout the weekend, we zip-lined through the mountains and tubed along the river. On that Saturday night, he laid my clothes out, told me to change, and said he would let me know what we were doing later. We pulled up to a ranch, where he had booked us a private sunset horseback ride–it was beautiful! We took a break near a stream right before sunset, and when I looked down, he was on one knee. It was the most perfect proposal I could have ever imagined! When we got home, he told me that we had to go eat dinner at his mom’s house for my birthday. When I opened the door, all of my closest friends and family were there for a surprise birthday and engagement celebration! It was definitely a weekend I will never forget!
When did y’all get married? April 11, 2015
How many friends, family members, and loved ones attended your wedding? 400
Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding and why you chose them. Our first dance song was the most sentimental of all. We danced to “Feet Don’t Touch the Ground” by Stoney LaRue. This was the first song we had danced to in college! Any time it plays, we just look at each other and smile.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Our favorite detail of the wedding was the band! We literally saw this band every time they played in Auburn. It was a dream come true to have them play at our wedding!
How did you plan for your marriage while planning your wedding? While planning our wedding, I graduated college and passed my PTA board exam. On top of all of that, we bought a house–and not just any house, a fixer-upper! We knew right then and there that if we could make it through all of that, forever would be a breeze!
If you are comfortable responding, what range did your wedding budget fall into? $25,000-$50,000
What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? Finishing our house is up next for us! Then, maybe we will do some traveling and start a family together down the road.
