With such a long growing season, I think our gorgeous blooms are one of the most distinctive features of the South. Not only the South as a whole, though — different flowers are forever associated with particular states in my mind! That was the theme for our bouquet feature in this issue, and happily, we had an incredibly talented crew to bring it to life. Many thanks to our flower whiz Janie Medley for her gorgeous bouquets (and to Florabundance for some of the blooms!); Courtney Spencer for styling magic; and Patricia Lyons for the crisp and clear photos!

Isn’t the calligraphy gorgeous? It’s by our talented friend Elizabeth Porcher Jones!

We think of Alabama as ground zero for all things pink and girly, so this clutch of peonies, azaleas (in honor of the Trail Maids!), and sweet peas is right on target. An extra-wide ribbon (almost 4 inches!) from Midori finishes it off.

Moody and elegant flowers with lots of greenery combine to capture the feel of Tennessee. This bouquet makes us think of dark skinny jeans and banjos!

Virginia brides know that “simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication,” so this bouquet’s classic elegance is sure to please. A photo charm is the perfect finishing touch — we used a photo from my parent’s wedding for this one!

Our Kentucky bouquet gives the run for the roses a run for its money, adding in white peonies, white ranunculus, and white tulips for extra pop. A boldly striped scarf and sweet pin finish the look.

Our Florida bouquet is as bright and vivacious as our Southernmost brides! A cheery silk ribbon hold these citrus-colored blooms together.

Last but certainly not least is West Virginia, and it’s as “wild and wonderful” as that great state. We think it feels like a field of flowers in miniature! We used all delicate blooms for this one and tied it together with a strip of Liberty fabric.

What do you think, belles? Which bouquet is your favorite? Did we capture your state accurately? After all these months, I’m still trying to decide whether I’m more partial to Alabama or West Virginia…

This was one of my favorite features in SWV6 – y’all always do the perfect job of creating unique, jaw-dropping, and meaningful bouquets, and I love the State theme, too! I just love the blackberries & gingham in the Tennessee bouquet.

Southern blooms hold a special place in the heart of the South. We’re lucky to boast the most beautiful flowers, from sweet honeysuckle to romantic wisteria. And you can bet your tail that we take great pride in the flowers of our birth states, as they never fail to remind us of home. It’s only appropriate then, that in each of our issues, we highlight the bouquets that represent the South in subtle but meaningful ways. We’re loving the way this came together with the help of Haute Horticulture’s floral design, Annabella Charles’ great photo eye and pretty calligraphy from Natalie Chang.

While the blooms in these bouquets speak for themselves, part of the fun is coming up with a creative way to wrap them. We loved the idea of using a white pleated ribbon on the gorgeous arrangement above. After a fruitless online search, we just made one ourselves!

We couldn’t resist tying off the strawberry fields-inspired bouquet below with a matching bow tie from Mo’s Bows. Oh-so-Southern, indeed!

Y’all know monograms are our thing. We flipped when we saw this sweet embroidered charm from Daydream Stitching.

If you’re looking for more Southern blooms, pick up a copy of V5 here or take a peek at our Pinterest Board dedicated to them!

Which one is your favorite?

I loved this spread in V5! I’m a HUGE fan of bouquets… in my mind they are the centerpiece for the wedding! Midnight in the Garden is by far my fav :) The deep red, blush & creme are so rich & warm together. I’m also a huge fan of Mint Julip!

Such gorgeous work, ladies! I think either Southern Charm or Strawberry Fields is my favorite :)

I can’t choose just one, I’d be more than happy with any of these arrangements. But if I was forced to choose one… Southern Charm would be it.

all of them are to die for but my faves are a close tie between ” amazing grace” & “mint julep” (i’m a sucker for monogram & gingham).

Y’all, these aren’t your mama’s bouquets, but they might be your grandma’s bouquets. After all, the whole inspiration behind Norma Dean Designs is Ms Norma Dean herself — a lady from the deep South who knew a thing or two about finding beauty in the everyday. The NDD gals have taken this spirit to heart, collaborating with their brides to create modern heirlooms that will have pride of place long past the wedding day.

I could spend hours looking at these beauties, they’re that intricate! And full of stories, too. I love the idea of incorporating a rolled up love letter, or possibly a flower formed from a page torn from an old Bible. (One of the weddings you’ll see in V5 had boutonnieres made from pages of the Book of Acts, since it’s the groom’s favorite book, and I thought it was the sweetest idea!)

To get your inspiration wheels turning, take a peek at the different collections on the Norma Dean site — I’m particularly fond of the Country Cotton, Nautical Charm, and Soft Romantic styles. In addition to bridal bouquets, most styles have coordinating boutonnieres, ring bearer and flower girl items, wrist cuffs, and bridesmaid bouquets!

The Norma Dean Designs gals use all natural and eco-friendly materials, and they take great pride in the workmanship of each piece. Impressively, their prices are quite reasonable, too, even when compared to fresh flowers. Make sure to check out the Norma Dean site to see all the goodness in store!
