Please tell me y’all are having as much hair-envy from these photos as I am! The elusive “Southern Bump” is my favorite hair do ever, after all. Not familiar with the SB? Why, it’s the style with the perfect amount of sweet and classic mixed with just the right amount of pouf (to make it sassy!). When I got married, of course, I asked my hair dresser for the Bump, and to make me look like a vintage Bridget Bardot and not like Marge Simpson. And yes, it is a very fine line!

Achieving the perfect Southern Bump does not happen by chance – oh no. It takes practice and the right tools! On your wedding day, I would advise leaving it to the professionals, and bringing in lots of photos the show what you want. Also, be sure your hair is longer than you think you’ll need, because the teasing needed to get that perfect bump will eat up the length of your hair quickly.

If you’re brave enough to try the bump at home, I suggest investing in the right products. I am a HUGE fan of Big Sexy Hair’s What a Tease – this stuff really works. You flip over the dry hair you want to pouf, and spray this super sticky hairspray-like concoction on the underside. Let it dry, then flip the hair back over. Viola! Instant backcombing without the damage. If you want more bump or hold, I suggest teasing before spraying in the What a Tease. Also in the big hair arsenal? A teasing comb and good dry shampoo.

Once last tip that one of our dear readers shared with me: if you have fine hair, using big ol’ hot rollers instead of a curling iron helps create the initial volume needed for just the right amount of pouf.

Have you got the Southern Bump down to an art? Share your secrets with us in the comment section below! Please! I am always looking to learn how to better work this hair!

P.S. If you’re looking for a how to video for teasing, hop over to Katie’s blog (that I’m obsessed with) here for a quick tutorial! Happy teasin’, y’all!

Just loving this post today, Marissa! “The bigger the hair, the closer to God!” ;)
I’m a big fan of Bed Head by TIGI’s Masterpiece hairspray. It’s what my Southern Belle of a hairstylist has used on me since I was a young one and I still use it daily! And you are right, a teasing comb is a must!

    • avatar Marissa reply

Ooh, I’ll have to try that hairspray! I’m a huge product junkie, so I’m always up for trying new ones, and that one sounds right up my alley! Thanks, Madi! xx

Have y’all thought about what you might do with your wedding dress after your wedding? I’ve actually thought about it a lot. My wedding gown budget was somewhat in the middle of the spectrum – about $1,500, including alterations. That’s more than the national average (which is $1,121, in case you’re wondering!), but it’s not enough to afford most of the couture designers, like Monique, Vera, and Amsale. And if you recall, I loved gowns from all three of those ladies :)

So when I locked eyes on the dress that I knew was mine, my heart sunk a little at the price. After talking it over with my Mom, though, we agreed that if I sold my wedding dress after the wedding, we would recoup enough to make the dress fall into our initial budgeted amount (so, dress purchase price – dress resale price = our final price – make sense?).

And that’s where today’s sponsor, PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com, comes in! They provide the perfect outlet for those looking to sell used wedding dresses. They’re also, of course, a great resource for anyone looking to buy a pre-loved wedding dress, as you can search by designer, size, price, location, and silhouette, among other options!

Since these gals have more than 9,500 wedding dresses (from 300 different designers!) listed, I thought it would be fun to show y’all three of our favorites currently for sale. Here we go!

The first is the lovely “Aspen,” from Monique Lhuillier’s Fall 2011 collection, listed for $3,500 here. I have to say, my favorite part of this listing might be the photo of the happy bride – makes me excited to think about the next lady who might enjoy my dress after I’m through loving it!

Next we have “Rochelle” by Kenneth Pool, quite the stunner with her dramatic trumpet skirt and glamorous beading. She’s available for $3,500 here.

Long time readers will for sure recognize Blakely, the dress of choice of our former editor Katharine (didn’t she look amazing at her wedding??). This Amsale stunner is on sale for $2,000 here, which is such a steal!

Trust me, those are just three of thousands upon thousands of dresses waiting for a new home! Ready to start looking? We recommend browsing the Dresses We Love, Most Viewed, Best Deals, or New Listings of the Week pages!

Now tell me: What are you planning to do with your dress after your wedding? Keep it? Sell it? if any long-time readers have used PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com to sell their dress, we’d love to hear from you, too!

Emily, I felt the exact same way you did. I started off with an initial budget but fell in love with an Amsale that I just couldn’t pass up, but felt SO guilty about the price! I told my mom I didn’t mind selling it after because I wanted to get some of that money back because it was a little over the top. I only wish that the dress wasn’t a brand new one for the season otherwise I would’ve bought it online used!!

So I think it’s an awesome opportunity!! I will definitely be looking to pass my dress on, and it barely needed any alterations whatsoever so it makes it a little easier to sell as well.

    Good luck to you!

Hi Amanda! We’re definitely in the same boat! I’m crossing my fingers I won’t need too many alterations for the same reason, because I’ve heard it definitely helps when reselling!

ohmahgolly. that last dress is TO.DIE.FOR. almost makes me want to ask my hubs if we can get married again just so i can wear it.

    • avatar Emily reply

Seriously, isn’t it amazing?! Katharine looked so stunning in it that I seriously considered borrowing or buying it from her for my own wedding, but she ended up selling it before I even got engaged! SUCH a gorgeous gown.

I am a huge fan of Preowndedweddingdreses.com. I bought an Amsale dress on the website and then changed my mind. I sold it on the website and then bought my dream Monique Lhuillier from the website. After my wedding I ended up selling that dress as well. I had such a great experience and I met some awesome brides. It is the way to go if your dream wedding dress does not fit in your budget! I love the Aspen!

    • avatar Marissa reply

Hi Jessie! I am so glad to hear that you had such a wonderful experience with PreOwnedWedding Dresses! Such a great option to nab gorgeous dresses at a great price!

  4. avatar Lara reply

OK, once again, I want to do a vow renewal!!! That Monique is DIVINE!!!

  5. avatar Brit {Colure Weddings} reply

Adore this concept! You could get your dream dress on here for half the price! Frugal bride award for this one!

  6. avatar Jennifer reply

I stalked this website but unfortunately could never find the gown I wanted, Paloma Blanca :( I did find my gown as a sample on sale for half off during black Friday:) getting that dress only took a 4 hour road trip with my sis & 5 month old niece. I plan to repurpose my dress with some alterations & dying to make it a mother of the bride or mother of the groom dress for me to wear at my future kids weddings. I have also seen some great jewelry on etsy made with pieces from wedding dresses. I want mine reused in some way. I loved it so much how could I take that same love from someone else just because her purse strings are a bit tighter? Love that you feel the same way. Good luck on your sale & stay frugal!

Happy Friday, my dears! Today we have the pleasure of giving you a peek at the Spring 2012 collection from one of our favorite bridal designers, Watters! We’re especially fond of them because they’re based in Texas :) We know y’all are fond of them, too, as we’ve featured Watters gowns in real weddings here and here — just to name a VERY few!

We thought it would be fun to share with you each of our favorite picks from the new line. Read on for why the Southern Weddings gals love these particular styles!

The Watters Brides dresses are defined this season by classic shapes, unique detailing (fresh water and mother pearl beading is one of our favorites!), and breezy construction.

We love that for the Watters Bridesmaids line, the designers focused on building groupings that are designed to make a complete party — not necessarily all different dresses, and not necessarily matchy-matchy. Seems just right for where we are now, doesn’t it?

For WToo, Watters sister bridal line, the new collection is described as “ultra feminine.” I think some of you Southern belles can get on that train!

The colors for the WToo bridesmaid line are just gorgeous — everything from amethyst, to citrine, to charcoal.

You can see all of the Watters collections at their website! Ladies, we’d love to hear from you — which is your favorite gown? Are any of y’all wearing a Watters gown at your wedding? Comment below and let us know!

An excuse to flip through wedding gowns and pick a favorite? Don’t mind if I do :) I think my pick would be Swan…the back is to die for!

I love the Grace style! In your V4, in one of the first few pages of the book, you had a similar gown except it had a deep lace V in the back too–do you know which dress that was? I’m obsessed and can’t find it anywhere!

    • avatar Emily reply

Hi Kelsey! That’s actually a dress by Heidi Elnora! I hope that helps!

  4. avatar MacKenzie reply

Emily, I’m SO with you on the pink dress. I love this dress so much and if I got to marry Philip again tomorrow, this would be my pick!

  5. avatar Paige Dohoney reply

I am wearing the Watters Alexandra gown on my big day in September!! Cannot wait!!
