Continuing with our mini engagement session series is this lovely from Braedon Flynn. Doesn’t he do a wonderful job convincing us all that you don’t need a sunny day to have gorgeous photos?

So stylish, you too! Braedon’s also pretty much sold me on the idea of black + white engagements. What do you think?

The black and white doesn’t do it for me. I mean, they are beautiful pictures and beautiful people but it seems too glamourous for me, I want engagement pictures to be realistic and down to earth. Just my opinion though…. :)

Inspired by Brooke + Victor’s wedding? The key is matching that bright blue color. Here, our tips and tricks for doing so! Read on for some of our inspired sources.

A. The Moroccan-inspired lanterns at the reception were an interesting counterpoint to the rest of the crisp + clean design. We like these ones from World Market and these ones from Save on Crafts.

B. Patterned throw pillows add a colorful pop to white and dark wood lounge furniture. If you’re in Charleston, we recommend Snyder for event rentals! Pillows from CB2 and Ikea.

C. Even if you don’t use mason jars for drinking, they’re perfect for holding votives. Collect different sizes and vintage finishes at flea markets or garage sales, or opt for a new (and already clean!) set at Walmart.

D. Simple white cake pedestals let your confections shine. Find a large or small size at Crate and Barrel. We also love the Martha Stewart line at Macy’s.

E. A straw fan at each ceremony seat will keep guests cool during the ceremony. Find them in bulk at Beau Coup.

F. Hydrangeas are a gorgeous and economical option for bouquets and centerpieces. Ask your florist for them or place an order with Fifty Flowers.

G. Those planning a Charleston wedding can pick up the same chairs B + V used at Snyder Event Rentals for $1.50 each. Wedding elsewhere? Ask for a wooden slatted folding chair.

H. We found two bright blue alternatives for your maids, both on the Dessy site. The one on the left is from Alfred Sung in royal, and the number on the right is by Dessy in sapphire.

I. Old Navy’s flip flop sales are famous for a reason! Bring a few buds to get around the per-person cap and head to the mall when pairs go on sale for $1. Your dancing guests will thank you later!

J. Brooke’s shoes were by Stuart Weitzman, but we found two less expensive lookalikes for $58 (Vita in French blue) and $89 (Jeanette in royal blue) at Zappos.

What do you think? Would you be bold enough to go for such a bright color at your wedding? Let me know in the comments!

This is the color I picked for my wedding :) It’s outdoors in May, and the color is perfect on all of my bridesmaids, who range from my olive skinned Hispanic best friend and cousin to my fair skinned, red headed sister-in-laws-to-be. However, I’m using yellow as my accent color, the dresses will be this fabulous blue and their shoes will be yellow, and they’ll be carrying yellow tulips :) Sorry, about the long comment but I’m really excited about the color scheme! Y’all have an amazing blog and magazine, it’s been quite the inspiration for my wedding planning. Thank y’all so much!

We know lots of you pretty ladies are recently engaged, and so decided it was high time to feature another engagement or two. Speaking of “high time,” meet Natalie + Jantzen, who had a high flying time with Nancy Ray at their recent photo shoot! The historic home pictured belonged to Jantzen’s grandfather, and now belongs to Jantzen’s whole family. It’s where his mother grew up with her — wait for it — 26 brothers and sisters!!

Jantzen and many of his family members have a passion for aviation — there’s even a runway in front of the house! No wonder, then, that Jantzen’s uncle decided to pop in to the session with his plane for a few more photo opportunities!

One more awesome fact about this couple? From Nancy’s blog: “Natalie told me that when Jantzen proposed, he gave her tickets to the Oprah Show! She has always wanted to be at an Oprah show live (it was on her “bucket list”), and since this was her last season, her sweet fiancé made it happen. Here’s the kicker: she attended Oprah’s show called “A Fairytale Wedding.” The audience was filled with hand-picked brides from all over the country, and each of them left with a free honeymoon and a Vera Wang dress!

How’s that for a fabulous start to an engagement? Congratulations to Natalie + Jantzen — thanks for allowing us to share your photos!

Wait, what’s that in the sky?

Thanks again to Miss Nancy Ray for sharing this session with us! See more on her blog here and here.
