Southern Weddings

Monthly Archives: May 2016

Every year, we do our best to fill our annual print edition with advice and tips that will help you not only plan your wedding, but also (more importantly), help you and your fiancé prepare for marriage. We ask every couple we feature how they go about preparing for life after the big day, and were so happy to include many of their answers in V8. Please enjoy their words of wisdom every Sunday here on Southern Weddings!

We started to renovate a condo together as our first home right after we got engaged–that will teach you A LOT about the person you are getting ready to marry! Working together on the condo was a great way for us to learn how we worked and lived as individuals, and what that would need to look like as a couple, both socially and financially.

Happy weekend, friends! It’s bright and sunny today, a welcome change from the cold and rain we had all this week. The weather for this coming week looks the same, which makes us even more excited for our team retreat, including 2016 team photos! As you know, we added a few new team members in the last few months, and since the retreat will be the first time a few of us have met in person, we’re looking forward to it even more than usual!

See more from this engagement session by Arte de Vie on our Facebook page!

In case you missed it this week…

Katie and Scott: The most perfect poppy bouquet, floral and striped linens, and sweet Italian details in Virginia.
Casey and Jordan: Boho details, a bouquet bursting with greenery, and a ceremony under a tree in Florida.
Christy and Jake: A lakeside setting, succulent and antler centerpieces, and a black tie bridal party in Georgia.
Caroline and Chandler. A mountaintop ceremony, mix and match bridesmaid dresses, and cotton candy in Arkansas.

We also gave you a peak behind the scenes as we count down our editorials for the next issue of the magazine!

Have a delightful weekend, and congratulations to anyone getting married!!

Happy Friday, belles! Since we just flipped the calendar page again (hello, May!) and Lisa and I have been hard at work with our team of stylists and vendors making Volume 9 magic happen, we thought it was time for a little #MakingSouthernWeddings update here on the blog! We have two editorial shoots under our belts (hooray!), two coming up this month, two in June, and one that is yet to be scheduled – but will likely end up being in June, too! We’ve actually already gotten the photos back from our first shoot, and let’s just say, there were some dancing lady and heart eye emoji texts involved amongst our team. We can’t wait for you to see!! But in the meantime, here’s what we can share…

Our first editorial was staged in sunny Florida. We had the help of two long-time Blue Ribbon Vendors, Ashton Events and Justin DeMutiis, and since I was out on maternity leave, Lisa also had Marissa by her side! (That’s her wearing one of our cute shoot aprons from Oatmeal Lace, above.) This shoot was bright and colorful, with just a hint of gold and citrus :)

Our second editorial took place at the Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta. Yeah, we couldn’t stop staring at that ceiling, either! We were thrilled to take on an indoors shoot – something a little different for us – and hope y’all will love having some ballroom inspiration in our next issue! Of course, peonies arranged by Blue Ribbon Vendor Jacin Fitzgerald, an epic tulle wedding gown, and photos by Sawyer Baird don’t hurt, either. I was back from maternity leave for this one, and it was extra fun to have my little girl and my Mom in tow for the day! But don’t get me started on Atlanta traffic… yeesh!

As always, follow along on Instagram and Snapchat for more Southern Weddings V9 action as it unfolds! You can find everything on our account, @SouthernWeddings, and the #SouthernWeddingsV9 and #MakingSouthernWeddings hashtags. And don’t forget: we will be reviewing real weddings for Volume 9 through August, so send them our way! We can’t WAIT to see your big days!! You can find our submission guidelines here.

P.S. Interested in being a Volume 9 sponsor? There’s still time, and we would love to have you! In fact, we’re running a special deal until May 9, so hop like a bunny and email Marissa!
