Y’all know we do not usually go in for the overly-theme-y engagement shoots. For one thing, what could you honestly do with the images, as lovely as they might be?! The one exception is when the styling is completely authentic to the couple, and is done with a light hand. I think you’ll agree that happily, that’s the case with these shots from Hazelnut Photography.

Jenn + Mike split their engagement session into two parts. The first showcased Mike’s beloved ’52 Chevy truck. Here’s the story:

In 1952, Mike’s great-grandfather bought a brand new truck, fresh off the lot. It was gorgeous and he loved it. Later that year, he packed his entire family into it and drove across the country to settle in Southern California. Over the years, as everything does, it fell into disrepair. Nearly sixty years later, Mike, his father and his brother have given it back its glory, refurbishing it from the bottom up. It is now his pride and joy… well, right after Jenn!

When I began talking to Jenn + Mike about their engagement session, a few things quickly became clearly important: the truck. The dog. And their favorite pastime, camping. (They’ve even planned their October wedding to fall on an annual camping trip weekend… so their anniversary will always be commemorated in nature!) I’m so happy with their session and I’m thrilled to share it with you! Being from the South myself (I’m a North Carolina native!) this session made me homesick for my childhood.

Thank you so much for sharing, Jordana! LOVE the story behind the camping set-up. Jenn + Mike, we can’t wait to see your wedding!

I love dogs, and I love incorporating them with photo sessions such as engagements like this. Their photos are so carefree that looking at them makes me feel pleasant and light. :D

Happy Monday! Let’s start off the week with this sweet and simple engagement shoot, what do you say? Photographer Eric Boneske sent it in, and we are in love!

From the bride:

Our inspiration for our engagement shoot was based upon where we first fell in love. As cheesy as that may sound, when Brandon and I first met, I was living in Wilmington for the summer and he was in Greenville, and the foundation of our relationship really played out in Wilmington. I grew up in Wilmington, and like most Wilmingtonians, had a pretty healthy obsession with Dawson’s Creek. The intracoastal waterway has this sort of discrete beauty–not too fussy or loud–and I knew it would provide the perfect backdrop for some amazing pictures. Our photographer even snuck us on to this property that has yet to be developed, a rare gem in Wilmington, which made our experience even more special.

Thanks so much for sending over these images, Eric! And for sharing a bit of your love story, Taylor + Brandon!

Readers, we’ll be back in a moment with another Southern engagement shoot for your viewing pleasure!

Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

It’s been a busy week at the Southern Weddings office! Our paintings have come down, our office closet is cleaned out, and we’ve been working around a large pile of boxes in the middle of the room. Our move to a bigger and better space is happening! With all the moving hubbub, we still managed to work in a little photo shoot with Millie Holloman and sit down and post some pretty and inspiring features for you this week. Shall we take a look back?

Megan, our Southern bride of the month, shared the details of her wedding at the end of the month to her handsome fiance, Brandon. Read all about their plans, their gorgeous venue, and yes, the macaroni and cheese on a stick they’re serving here!

Emily brought us the cutest Southern Spotting yesterday: monogrammed flower girls! The sashes of these sweet girls’ dresses incorporated one of the most beloved Southern traditions.

Lara gave us all some perspective on the stress of wedding planning when she asked, “Will it matter when you’re 80?” She shared some great love stories and photos–all from couples over 80! Now the question is, What do you think are the secrets to growing old together and staying as happy as these lovebirds? Where do you hope to be when you’re 80? Go to the original post to leave a comment with your answer and you could win a copy of Pablo Neruda’s Love Poems.

Our giveaway is extra special this week because it’s a surprise! With our closet cleaned and move-out commencing, we thought our fun and random items we’ve collected over the years would make great grab-box fillers! Want one? Go to the original post and tell us what your favorite part of moving is! And there’s more! If you’ll be in the Chapel Hill area on June 10, you should stop by our charity yard sale! We’ve got tons of wedding decor, furniture, props, lighting and more! All of our proceeds will go toward helping tornado victims here in the South and to Stop Hunger Now, a global organization dedicated to ending world hunger. RSVP by emailing me at [email protected].

Don’t forget to take a look at the real weddings we featured!
Julie + TJ’s simple and natural wedding incorporated family wedding photos dating back to the 1800s! See it here and here.

Andrea + Tres tied the knot at a gorgeous plantation in New Orleans. Their wedding combined bits of glamour with Southern charm. Take a look here and here.

Usually I like to leave you all with a photo to feast your eyes on. However, this week I have to leave you with some awesome invitations for the International Biscuit Festival that we spotted on our friend, Nole’s blog, Oh So Beautiful Paper. Of course we had to share it with you, it was way to cute to let slide. Paper fanatics will rejoice and everyone else will have their stomachs growling!

Check out some more photos of these invites on Nole’s blog. Is anyone going to the Biscuit Fest in Knoxville? Tell us if you are!

That’s it for this week! Have a great weekend, y’all! Let us know if you do something fun!

I live in West Knoxville and will be attending the festival again this year. It is so much fun because it is downtown in Market Square at the same time as our Farmers Market on Saturday. There is something for everyone at the market and at the festival. Altough I won’t be attending the Blackberry Farm breakfast, due to the cost of the tickets the biscuit festival that morning only cost $15. It is a blast because you get to taste so many people’s takes on the traditional southern biscuit. By the way, I love your website it gives me such great ideas for my wedding this fall.
