Southern Weddings

Monthly Archives: October 2010

We’re still riding high from yesterday’s launch of V3 onto newsstands, but life must go on, musn’t it?  Or at least real weddings?  Lucky for us, we have an absolute stunner of a feature for you today with this beauty from Chase Kuhn.

I feel a special connection to Katie, and not just because we were both Amsale brides.  In addition to choosing the same classic brand, I opted for the full-skirted version of her stunning one-shoulder gown for my own September wedding.  Don’t you just love the asymmetric neckline and bow detail?  I, for one, love how the bride played on the fun bow theme in her bridesmaids J. Crew bow monde frocks.  In true Southern fashion, Katie + Crisp were married at  the groom’s family plantation in Georgia.  Chase Kuhn of 509 Photo documented their simple outdoor ceremony planned by the bride and Angie Moore of Moore Events and Design.   Simple Southern at its best, folks.

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  About two years ago, Crisp’s house was on the market and my mother and I (we work together for our family realty firm!) went to preview it for a client. I called to make an appointment and Crisp was actually ahome at the time.  Right when he opened the door, I saw something that took my breath away: his DOG! I bypassed Crisp and headed straight for Abby, a small black and white English Cocker, the exact color and breed I had been wanting for some time. I oohed and awed over her for several minutes before I finally looked up at him and realized her owner was just as cute as she was!  He later asked me to come to his 30th birthday party at his farm, but when I showed up he introduced me to his family and friends as his date! And that was our not-so-official first date!
Describe the proposal. Crisp was in Georgia one Saturday for a friend’s wedding, and I was in Albany for my cousin’s engagement party. He called and asked if I wanted to meet him up at the farm to take a jeep ride and let the dogs run.  So I met him around 5pm and we headed off.  He also had asked me to bring my camera because he said they had been seeing a lot of  wild turkeys recently! We drove around for about 30-45 minutes, and on the way back to the River House, he drove by the pavilion next to the pond. (This where he had his 30th Birthday party, which was our first date!) I saw something under the pavilion, but couldn’t tell what it was.  At that point, he stopped the jeep and asked me to get out… that’s when it hit me! We walked up and I saw all the flowers and just started crying.  Needless to say, I said “YES!”  Crisp said he had one more surprise for me: right then, our families burst out the front door and onto the porch, yelling, “Surprise!” We got to celebrate with everyone and enjoyed dinner, while I tried to catch my breath!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Classic, Southern and chic.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: I would say it was being able to have the wedding & reception at Crisp’s family plantation, Thronateeska Bluffs. The farm is such a beautiful place and was the ideal setting for a wedding! I have always wanted an outside wedding, and Crisp and I both love the outdoors, so this was a perfect fit. The location also holds a special place in our hearts, as it where we shared our first date, our first kiss and our first “I love you.”  (It’s also where Crisp proposed!)

It’s that time again, ladies and gents!  The cat’s out of the bag about our cover and shiny copies of V3 are popping up on newsstands everywhere, so dust off your camera or iPhone and get ready to snap a shot of you and your brand new SW!

In a box, with a fox, in a house, with a mouse, here or there, or anywhere… the location is up to you!  Perhaps you and your SW would like to travel to a cotton plantation?  To the top of the Empire State building?  To the beach in Miami?  The peak of a mountain in Maine?  To a BBQ joint in Texas? Or maybe your SW wants to be photographed with someone fun — your Momma, your baby, your pug, your best friends, your bridal party?

Whatever you choose, we want it to be creative!  Entries are due November 5, one month from today.  We’ll post our favorites and then vote on a winner that week!  Two rules: you have to tweet your pic/s to us (@iloveswmag) and then email it/them to Whitney (whitney at iloveswmag dot com).

And now, drumroll please… the winner of this contest will receive one of four prizes – 10 copies of V3 for you and your friends, (if you are a vendor) an ad on the new SW site launching soon, or an iPon Nano!  The fourth prize?  Bragging rights and a feature here on the blog!!! Pretty awesome, huh?  So hop on it, folks!  We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Being the completely old-school-barely-know-how-to-work-a-computer girl that I am, I don't have a twitter account. Is there another option for those of us that are little…shall we say….ignorant? : )

We’re so so excited!  Tomorrow is the big day that V3 arrives on newsstands! SO, lots of folks have asked if we’re having a launch party.  Our schedules are so packed till Christmas, that we just don’t have time!  Soooooo…..

Tomorrow, we’re doing something a little different.  Emily and Lara will be at Engage10 celebrating at the big closing night gala and we want y’all to join us!  In celebration that is.  So, break out the champagne, put on your party tunes, give the cat some extra catnip, go have a fun dinner with friends, have some Krispy Kreme, an in-office dance party, hodown, a little jig in your car, or order up your favorite take-out and let’s all celebrate!  All over the South, tweet us how you are celebrating tomorrow night (pictures are a bonus!!!) with the hashtag #V3Launch.  One lucky celebrator (is that even a word!?) will be entered to win $50 in new iTunes and a whole bunch of y’all will win some fun surprises that we have up our sleeves.

So, get on it and start planning your V3 launch celebration for tomorrow night!  We can’t wait to [virtually] celebrate with y’all!

As an event planner I have followed SW blog faithfully with daily visits to gain inspiration for our upcoming events, but I just got my FIRST EVER copies of the magazine in the mail since they are not sold in Southern Indiana. I now know what I have been missing! At times you might mistake the southern portion of our state as a southern territory since it is worlds different from Northern Indiana and many of our brides want a touch of southern elegance at their weddings. Southern Weddings Magazine does an amazing job at capturing, showcasing, and inspiring that SOUTHERN CHARM! I applaud the SW ladies for their amazing work on a fabulous product and will faithfully order all future copies.
