Google+ Real North Carolina Wedding: Jenna + Kevin, Part II - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

After their ceremony, Jenna + Kevin played on the art theme a bit more with a yellow and gray-hued reception at the Hart Witzen Gallery.  The bride’s sleek + sophisticated Amy Kuschel dress seems the perfect choice for their artsy venue.  We love the eclectic blooms from Elizabeth House Flowers, and how about that dessert bar from Tammy at Pike’s Old-Fashioned Soda Shop?  Yes, please!  Consider this my official RSVP. Texas-based photographer Erin Woolsey has more images waiting for you on her blog!

Describe your wedding flowers: I carried baby’s breath (my favorite and I just wanted to carry something simple and natural). The bridesmaids flowers were wild and whimsical…kind of a hand-picked look, wrapped in twine instead of ribbon.
Describe your wedding cake: The dessert table still makes us smile. We love to taste-test and sample things and we’re suckers for dessert so there was no way we were having just one or two flavors of cake at our wedding! It was party time on the dessert table thanks to Tammy from Pike’s Soda Shop. She made a variety of cakes. Strawberry-coconut cake and orange blossom cupcakes are two of our favorites! We used a bunch of borrowed or thrift store cake stands and vintage books to display the goods.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Naked, melty people. About 8 weeks before our wedding we saw a preview of the exhibit that would be displayed during the month of our wedding. Though the art was impressive, the naked, melting, pregnant women in agony that served as the subject in most of the pieces wasn’t quite the backdrop we had hoped for on our wedding day. The owner of the gallery was wonderful and hung some of the artist’s happier pieces for our ceremony. Problem solved.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Seeing each other for the first time on the first day of the rest of forever. Second to that was this short moment where we were alone during bridal party introductions. We didn’t know this would end up being one of our favorite moments. Kevin created a mini-satyrical-documentary recounting the events in our relationship’s history and it ended up preceding our introduction. We had heard the words hundreds of times but hearing them from that little foyer, mixed with the laughter of so many people that we love, on such a wonderful day proved to be just the right recipe for memorable.
Did you write your own vows?  If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? Yes. My favorite line from Kevin’s vows was “I promise to always be God’s first, and then yours, buddy.” Kevin’s favorite from my vows was “For the rest of forever I’ll be yours.”
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future? Cooking, hiking, traveling, loving… after our thank you notes are finished (or at least started)!

I am just blown away by those centerpieces – so creative! The dessert bar also looks incredibly delicious. I wonder what guests had to fill in for their guest book page.
