Abby, I’ve got to hand it to you: I love your chic + sleek Tara Keely gown almost as much as your money-saving prowess when it came to shopping for your all-important dress.  The romantically-tiered frock fit the bride like a glove, and gave the rustic White House at Hickory Nut Gap Farm where the couple exchanged their vows a sophisticated update.  Abby’s maids were decked out in coordinated – but not matchy-matchy – Anne Taylor frocks, and the groom and his gents donned classic suspenders and gingham shirts in lieu of traditional suit coats.  Come back soon for more images from North Carolina-based photographer, Olivia Griffin.

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  We met at a friend’s birthday party back in 2006.  We were friends for a while, but we soon began spending more and more time together.  We both enjoyed doing outdoor activities, so we often skied and road bikes.  As we started to realize our feelings,  our friendship quickly turned into something more!
Describe the proposal.
Nate and I had been dating for well over 2 years, when Nate asked my dear friend Claire, a jewelry designer, to get started on a shiny new piece of hardware.  Over the next few months, Nate and Claire put their heads together to create something beautiful.  But I was slick, and Nate had to watch his every move so that the surprise wouldn’t be ruined.  One day in late August, Nate sent me an email asking me to go on an after-work hike with him.  We drove up to Craggy Gardens and hiked up the bear-infested trail.  I was so oblivious as to what was happening that I didn’t even think twice about the bottle of wine Nate had brought for the trip!  I even invited some other hikers to join us!  When we finally got to the overlook (alone), Nate waited for the perfect moment before getting down on one knee to pop the question.
Three adjectives that describe the day are:
Romantic, charming and intimate.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
The DIY nature of the day.  It was so great to have friends and family be a part of making the day happen.  We wanted it to be rustic, but romantic and elegant at the same time.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
My mom and I started dress shopping on my birthday, about a month after our engagement.  We started at your normal everyday wedding shop, and while I found some dresses that I liked, I wasn’t in love with any of them.  We left the shop and went to a few others, but without any luck.  We decided to go to a more upscale shop, but worried that we wouldn’t be able to afford any of the dresses there.  I told the woman my smaller than normal budget, and she brought out some dresses.  I thought I was going to hate them all!  She kept urging me to try them on, and the one she was urging me to try the most ended up being my favorite.  I didn’t want to take it off!  My mom cried and I cried, but the greatest part was that the dress had been marked down from $3,000 to $650.
What was Southern about your wedding?  What details or traditions did you include in your celebration?
The mountains!  We had the ceremony and reception at an old farmhouse up in the mountains.  We wanted to keep the flowers and décor in line with what you would find in the mountains.

I actually got the shoes from J. Crew. I don’t think they have them for sale anymore, because I got them at the factory store for 75% off! Thanks for all of the comments!

First, I apologize in advance for the tardiness of my recaps!  Y’all seemed to like my tweets from the show (thanks for the love!), so I figured I owed you a few more from-the-floor shots, even if they are a few weeks late.

So yes, the show was amazing. Gorgeous paper products galore, but also the nicest people around.  I know I’m going to sound like a broken record below as I introduce individual booths, but suffice to say, everyone I met was overwhelmingly wonderful.  Can’t wait to do it again next year!

First up was Yellow Owl Workshop and Austin Press, both part of the Aesthetic Movement display.  I loved their chalkboard booth, as well as their cheeky cards and cute rubber stamps.  Bonus!  Yellow Owl’s stamp sets come in adorable muslin bags.

Right off the bat I’m going to say this recap is ABSOLUTELY not in any logical order, but next we have Elum Designs.  This booth took me a bit by surprise.  I had always thought of Elum as a very well-respected letterpress company, but, well, I hadn’t heard too much about them in the blog world lately and thought they might have been resting a bit on their laurels, so to speak.  However, their album blew me away!  Seriously.  Their bright and colorful booth was one of the best I visited all day, and it was hard to stop myself from taking a photo of almost everything in it.  My favorite was the more affordable Umi line, and you can see that right here (check out Stitched, in the bottom right, below!).

I was very excited to see the debut of the brand-new wholesale line of a great friend of SW, Miss Emily Ley.  She was showing with the English Paper Co booth, and everything looked fabulous!  You can check out Em’s beautiful site here and her fun blog here.

I’ve been a fan of Linda & Harriett’s cards for a long time, but was excited to see the new, more limited direction Liz is now headed in.  Plus, her booth was gorgeous!  Keep an eye out for her 2011 letterpress calendar, debuting soon.  It was also fun to meet the ladies behind completely new-to-me lines, like Andrea from Gwyneth Paige Couture Letterpress.

Speaking of fabulous booths… Mr. Boddington’s Studio could definitely be counted in that number!  I thought their patterned envelope liner shingles were so clever (almost as good as their cupcake card!).

A few more of the exciting products I previewed: clockwise from top left we have shaped place cards, the new Jonathan Adler line by Lifeguard Press, the preppy + customizable MacBeth Collection, Lilly Pulitzer by Lifeguard Press, and a sample from Wallies.

Besides seeing the actual paper products and meeting the people, I loved seeing all of the creative ways the creatives decorated their booths.  A sampling of my favorites, including Regas, Avie Designs, Wild Pulp, and Egg Press.

Last but certainly not least (in this installment!), we have Rifle Paper Co and Smock + Bella Figura.  I had a great time talking to Anna, the genius behind Rifle Paper.  We’ve been corresponding for a few months on a fun project she’s collaborating on for the next issue, and it was great to finally meet in person!  The Smock booth was also a favorite.  I got to ogle their gorgeous, colorful products, meet Cyd from The Sweetest Occasion, and have my name lettered by Smock’s amazing calligrapher, Debi Zeinert of The Blooming Quill.  It was amazing to see her work!

That’s all for now!  I’ll be back soon with more.  In the meantime, I’d love to know — who’s your favorite stationery designer? Do you find it impossible to choose, too, or is that just me?

P.S. The best part about the stationery show?  I got a press pass.  What?  I’m not going to lie to y’all just to make myself sound cooler!

These pictures and links are great, I’m so impressed with how creative people can get with stationary! I can’t wait to get ours for our wedding!! Someone local to Greenville, SC that I love is The Grove Creative, you can find her (Jen Grove) on Facebook by typing in The Grove Creative. She doesn’t have all her creations online but she’s wonderful!!!

By the looks of things, it seems like the gals from A Delightful Day who planned Corrine + Chuck’s wedding and the talented husband-wife duo at Phindy Studios who shot the Southern celebration made a great team!  The centerpieces from Eye Design Floral were pretty, feminine and just vintage enough to complement the bride’s heirloom gown.  Our only regret?  We missed out on the newlyweds’ “Texas and Tennessee” menu prepared by Chef’s Market.  Be sure to visit Phil + Mandy’s blog post for more images!
