Happy April Fool’s Day!

Small town venues lend a special charm to Southern weddings everywhere, and we just can’t get over how much fun the jean short (“jort”)-wearing guests seem to be having at Elaine + Bruce’s Florida shindig.  CMT was on-hand to document the high school sweethearts’ Southern soiree at the Horse Hole Mud Bog.  The best thing about holding your wedding at a local mud pit?  Ya don’t have to wear shoes!  (Trust us: guests will thank you later when they don’t have to muddy-up their favorite pair of cowboy boots while four wheeling.)  Sure, we love the personalized DIY projects (invitations handwritten on paper napkins plus an oversized beer can archway) the couple wove into their big day, but our favorite detail of all?  The giant matrimonial beer slide that took the place of a traditional aisle.  Fun!  Celebrity Tom Arnold officiated the intimate wedding before guests noshed on a mud-themed wedding cake.  Now, if only we could get Emily to stop oggling the wait staff’s sleek owl-studded tank tops and cute orange shorts…

I seriously had to rub my eyes when I logged on and saw this. It was like WOAH! Good April Fools Ladies! The mud cake is what’s up!

Okay, I thought you were serious there for a minute. Good one!!

Actually, I can totally imagine a shindig like this say in Daytona Beach at the height of Race Weeks (say, the day before Daytona 500). Totally digging the beer cans arch!

My first reaction: "What in the world?!!!!" Second reaction: Why is the last link to Wikipedia….oh yeah, April Fool’s! Thanks–great joke!

Over the years we’ve amassed a collection of… ahem… more humorous images of the SW staff + friends. Yes, we’ve taken many a lovely portrait together, but y’all know that behind every good portrait is an even better out-take.  In honor of our blogaversary, we’ve decided to open the vault and share a few with you, our dear readers, at the risk of our own embarrassment.

To see these gems, all you need to do is head over to our Facebook Fan page.  If you’re not already a fan, become one!*

Then, choose any photo from our “Out-Take Album” and create a hilarious caption for it.  We’ll pick the best one and announce the winner next Friday, April 9!

To sweeten the deal, our wittiest reader will win a copy of the extremely rare print edition Volume I.

To whet your appetite…

Yep, that’s what I thought.  Head to the Facebook Fan page now!

*To be honest, we’ve been neglecting our Facebook Fan page.  So, we’ve been brainstorming ways to make it a more exciting place since y’all seem to love it.  Stay tuned, because we’ve got some awesome ideas that we’ll be rolling out in the next few weeks and months.

PS Wanna shoot our next cover?

That’s right, y’all! Southern Weddings has officially been around for two whole years, which, in blog-time, is a fairly lengthy tenure.  In real-world time, however, it’s pretty much just a blip — making what’s happened in these two years even more amazing!

Our site design has certainly changed…

…our name has changed (anyone else remember the days of SWS?)…

…we moved from publishing a blog to publishing a blog and a magazine…

…but our focus has remained the same: to bring a sweet, Southern sensibility to weddings the world over, and to bring the best of weddings the world over to the South.  Whether you live in Charlottesville or Chicago, our aim is to inspire.

We’ve got a few goodies coming up throughout the day and over the next week to celebrate, but we wanted to take a minute to send out a few thank yous.

First, to our readers.  We love y’all, plain and simple.  You tell us when we’ve done well, you tell us when we appear to be off our rockers, you tell us what you love and want more of, and you tell us what you’d be happy to never see again for the rest of your life.  You’re the life of this blog.  As of this morning, we’ve registered 14,627 comments.  We read every. single. one.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The other HUGE thank you goes to our vendor partners.  Whether you’ve sponsored our site in the past or present, are featured regularly, have been featured once, or have never been featured, THANK YOU for believing in SW as a great place to share your work.  We could not be more proud that you trust us enough to form a partnership.

Nothing is more Southern than a good ole fashioned hand-written thank you note, so here is a little note of thanks from our Editor-in-Chief, Lara Casey.

Here’s to two, twenty, or two hundred (!) more years of Southern Weddings!

xo Emily, Katharine, Whitney, Sandi, Lara and AKP too!
