Google+ Real Virginia Wedding: Molly + Christopher - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

If yesterday’s wedding was all about lovely, understated details and feminine romance, then today’s Virginia wedding screams preppy fun and Southern flair.  Really, how perfect is this wedding from Kellan Studios?  Sure, Molly + Christopher’s homespun affair at the Virginia Military Institute is wonderfully eclectic (the bride let her maids choose their own sky blue Melissa Sweet dresses) and delightfully adorable (there may not be a more perfect cake than the couple’s ribboned and polka-dotted confection from Sweet Treats), but what I really love are the distinctly Southern details that give this soiree some real personality!  From the adorably flip-flopped bridesmaids to the super-chic bride in a striking Alvina Valenta gown and wide-brimmed hat fit for the Kentucky Derby, Molly + Christopher’s wedding makes traditional Southern anything but conventional.  Add a vintage car and personalized bouquets from Lexington’s University Florist and you have the ultimate in Southern style and good fun – just the way we like it!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Chris was informally introduced to me at Randolph Macon College while I was visiting a mutual friend in 2003. After graduating college, our paths crossed again when we both were in Richmond and ran into each other in the fan district! That night,Chris asked our mutual friend for my phone number and called me the following afternoon after he had finished running a 10K. We went on our first official date on Cinco de Mayo!

Describe the proposal. I have always told Chris not to take any of my holidays away from me! Being the “smartie” that he is, we went out to dinner to celebrate an early Valentine’s Day where we surprisingly ran into several friends of ours. While I was in the restroom, Chris revealed his elaborate proposal plan to our friends. The plan was put on hold when our friends asked us to join them for dinner. Since plan A did not work, Chris went to plan B. When we arrived home, Chris started to complain about his knee (this happens on a regular basis) but would not let me leave to get him ice or Advil. Instead, he popped the questions and all I could do was say, “My ring! My ring!” I had to say yes before he would give me the ring!

What was the design inspiration for your wedding? Comfy and reusable! I had each of the girls pick out their own dresses in the same color but in any style they wanted. This way they would have a dress they would want to wear again someday!

What was your favorite design element? The water beads and the photo booth! Our center pieces were tall glass vases filled with green and blue water beads. Our other favorite element was the photo booth. We used the photos as favors for our guests.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress. Finding a dress was so hard! My mother and I looked everywhere. I knew I wanted a mermaid style dress with buttons down the back! Though these style dresses are very difficult to find, I finally found the perfect dress right down the road from me in Richmond!

Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted to personalize each of the arrangements. My bridesmaids carried an assortment of blue and green flowers with large grass strands looped through the flowers and an initial button on each of the bouquets. For my bouquet of calla lilies, I used my grandmother’s blue pin. Something blue and something borrowed!

Describe your wedding cake: I absolutely loved my cake, from the ribbon to the polka dots. Both Chris and I were truly excited when we first saw it! The white cake was filled with raspberry and had five layers wrapped with ribbon and a bow on each layer.

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The various greens and blues throughout all the details.

What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Chris’s most memorable moment was his surprise gift: the antique car waiting to take us to the reception. My favorite detailis whenour wedding planner had to push me down the aisle because I was so nervous!

Three adjectives that describe the day are: Glamorous, unforgettable and exciting.

What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Buying our first home together. We have been looking for quite a while and cannot wait to find the right one!

Congratulations, Molly + Christopher!  Good luck finding and settling into your new home!

What great ideas you had for a fabulous wedding! I particularly loved the color groupings you used throughout the day, the photo booth and the beautifully monogrammed door wreaths and monogrammed bodice of the flower girl’s dress. These details in combination with the glorious setting in Lexington, Va. made for a truly remarkable day!

The vintage taste! The green metal chair the bride delicately sits, the black & white side view pic in her gown wearing a spectacular hat, the period automobile, a metal tub to chill the wine, ice cream served in sugar cones and to top it all off –a photo booth. Mixed with the obvious blue and green color theme this wedding was spectacular to read about. CONGRATS!
